  1. Ya know, Lewis, I try to get away from Bubba but a lot of times he just tracks me down! I didn't tell him that Muffinman was in town, he just found out anyway. Hmmmmmmmm I wonder if Jamie said something to him. I noticed that he and Paula had left before Bubba showed up. It's been a while but they seemed pretty chummy when they were talkin' about their new motorcycle shop!

    Wall of Death

If you build it I will come! (I think a 1st Gen could do that!) Don't think there were cars involved but my grandfather did that in the '20s on an Indian! (No pun intended!) My dad raced Harleys in the '30s (wouldn't ride an Injun cause the controls were backwards!)......guess I come by it naturally.
  3. I've got an '82 1200 that still smokes and is on it's 2nd engine! It needs a lot of plastic work and there are two donor bikes for it. Not enough time or inclination! Does all that count? The '86 Venture is still my favorite and daily ride!
  4. Remember, the short timers really have to watch ass...ets! If you need a place to stay when you hit the Atl, you got one here! C u when u get back!
  5. I got my '86 because the PO dropped it at the ATM and over time the rubbing started the leak there. He took it to BMW to trade for a 1200KT. They offered him $300 because it was leaking antifreeze and the starter sounded weak! I spent $2.00 on JB Weld and used a 4' pipe to fix the problem. I did replace the elbow later, after my room mate dropped it again and broke that fix. I have put 100 thousand miles on the bike since I've had it. (6 years)
  6. That is pretty cool. I once rode in a triathlon. But I carried a judge (as a few other bikes did) to make sure that the riders weren't cheating by drafting too close, passing where they weren't supposed too, etc. It was fun, and you are right, lots of slow speed stuff.
  7. Kewl site! It's nice to know that my 1st Gen is Rear Wheel Drive!
  8. Thanks for covering my back, Lewis! Eck can be vicious when he hasn't had a UPS truck to play with lately ! But I just saw this. I haven't been on a lot lately. Would have enjoyed riding with y'all Saturday but I got off work at 1:30 and headed to Fl for my parent's 65th wedding anniversary Sunday! I got in there around 9:30. I would have made it by 8:45 but at my last gas stop, 125 miles from their house, my debit card quit working! I went to 4 different stations and finally called the bank. They said that there were a bunch of 10 - 12 dollar charges in two states so they hit it with a fraud alert. I guess that is a good thing, but at the time I was Really Pissed!! I spent Sunday there and headed back Monday morning. I did 1131 miles over the weekend and then my shortest work day from Tues. thru Fri. was 9 1/2 hrs. Last Saturday, after work, I rode down to Riverdale to work on a house that I've been doing some remodeling on and got home about 8:30. Sunday I was up at 6:15 to take the truck to a car show here in Marietta and then did a ride (180 miles) over Ft Mtn. to Pooles for Q! Did my taxes last night and tonight. I feel like I've been Rode Hard and Put Up Wet!!! Hope you had a good ride! I know that Bubba would have enjoyed it too.
  9. I wanted to keep working, but UPS has a rule that you can only have 30 working days on TDY. My manager even tried to have them let me ride my route with a new driver so I could teach him the route but they said "NO!". And as I said in my post, I always let everyone know that I was riding my bike because it was the only comfortable transportation for me.
  10. Oops!!! My Bad!!! I thought that Yammerdan had started this post. Enjoy your new ride, Mark! But, oh yeah, you keep the rubber on the ground too!
  11. I was hot when I read that other post as well! This is the response that I put there: I was on disability for almost two and a half years with a back injury from my job at UPS. I couldn't lift more than 10 pounds without sever pain. I couldn't drive or ride in a car for more than 15 minutes without sever pain. I couldn't walk through the grocery store without a cart to hold onto without sever pain and for a while I had to use the electric cart. The only means of transportation that did not hurt was my '86 Venture, even my '97 Intruder (although better than a car) was not as good. I made sure that my doctor, my employer and anyone else knew that is why I was still riding and why. I could ride for hours without pain; I guess because the seating is so upright and ergonomically correct. The girl on the sporty was not riding a "heavy" bike, it is probably around 550 or so.. That bike weighs a lot less than our 835+lb bikes. And you aren't lifting all that weight off of the side stand (or "Jiffy Stand" ). I don't get on a tirade often, but you need to think before you leap! My father uses a handicap sticker for parking although he seems fine, but he is 91 years old and has a hard time walking far.
  12. What they all said!!!
  13. Very nice, Dan!!! Now, just keep the rubber on the ground! (Like I'm one to talk!! )
  14. I guess this is the thread that started the thread that people on disability shouldn't be riding. I was on disability for almost two and a half years with a back injury from my job at UPS. I couldn't walk through the grocery store without a cart to hold onto without sever pain and for a while I had to use the electric cart. 15. One of the problems with the cruise control can be the switch on the clutch lever. If all your cruise lights come on then that would be good to check. If you put the bike in gear with the kickstand down and pull the clutch lever in, it should start. If it doesn't then that switch is the culprit, or at least part of the problem. I had that problem, you can take that switch apart and clean it real well and put it back together. Be careful though, there is a small spring in there that likes to get away! Another thing that can cause a problem with that switch is the bushing that the clutch lever pivots on can be worn and not allowing the right movement for the switch. Over the years I have had to replace that also.
  16. It''s sensing the lost load. You have to go into the cpu and short the reed switches. Check out this post: http://tinyurl.com/tail-light-warning About half way down you'll find a post by A1Bummer and he shows the switches that have to be jumped. I never found a reed switch for the turn signals, they just blink faster unless you use a resistor.

    Hey Riderduke

Thanks David, I have sent the seller an email asking for a phone #. I'll get back to you on it. Ben, I appreciate the thought. I think that Riderduke can check it out for me, unless there is someone closer.
  18. Hey David, how close are you to Waldorf Md. I may need someone to check out this 1st gen for Chris. You've met him at my M&Es. He rides the Roadglide but wants a cheap 1st gen to keep at work in OK. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46245
  19. But you need to hook up ALL the wires, huh Lewis?!?!
  20. Damn, Eck! Now I see where it all started!
  21. I would be interested in the "kit" when you get it together. God....I love a good kit! Especially a good sebenteen dolla kit!!!
  22. May have to call in sick that Saturday!?!? Maybe a cold on Friday too? FMD
  23. Man, I love a good "long-cut"! Glad you've got your wife back in the saddle!
