Why? Its a lot safer than the cheap tank on the bike! It would most likely survive a crash intact without spillage than the bike's tank. However, it's how you mount it to the bike that makes or breaks your back hard mount to the holy crap bars have to secure for it to be safe. -
My GPS mount for the ZUMO 450 is hot wired to the battery.. however, it only delivers power when the GPS unit is in the mount. You can find Most power wires going to your lights, headlight or highway lights, or the bike's radio system for example to draw switched power from.. the HORN for example is another source..

I'll be out with the bike tomorrow and will pay closer attention to what the lights are actually doing.. I am usually concentrating on the road that looking at the lights.. oops.. But yes. I read what you're saying about not letting go the throttle and understand what you're saying, but I think there might be something wrong then with the system as I do have to hold onto it much longer than a person would think normal.. I can count to 10 before I can let go the throttle... When it IS working properly, the quick tap to the ACCEL after SET, catches real quick compared to waiting on the throttle grip. I'll check the cable for binding, lube and routing.. How do I check for proper vacuum for this? Thanks for the assist.. much appreciated. -

No fringe or tassels off my bars or levers.. I'm not a girlie man rider, sorry Typically, what happens is that I set the speed, and hold onto the throttle so the engine can catch up to the speed.. it would normally lag back a bit and then slowly catch up to the set speed.. However, if you tap the set and then accel switch, it will hold the current speed without lagging (something like that right?).. I can then take my hand off of the throttle and it will ride from 5 to 10 seconds, seemingly holding the set speed and poof, off it comes and the flurry of lights indicating it's disengaged (can't remember what the lights are, sorry) Next ride, when it's not snowing, I'll give this all a try again and see if it's not just the big winds killing it or as Goose suggested, a loose switch etc... But it ain't no girlie tassels.. -

Sorta what I was thinking about the strain on the engine and it not keeping up kind of thing.. Hmm Mind you the best way to test that is to simply turn around and go downwind... -

I'm wondering if the strong winds put undue pressure on the bike confusing the sensors that the bike is 'surging' and disengaging the system as a mean of protection against low or high load.. Sort of like putting more strain on the engine when you hit a high guts and immediately taking the strain off the engine after the gust.. does that make sense? Unfortunately for around here, we're always caught in gale force winds.. grr -

Ah right! Thanks Goose, I'll give it a shot when I get a chance.. Were there cables that can go loose that needs tightening also? But certainly will try the switches! -
Hi guys.. I'm not sure if it's because it's still cold or what but when engaging my cruise control, it will stay on but for only a few seconds and then dis-engage.. not hitting any bumps or birds to switch it off.. I remember reading somewhere that there may be cables that might be slopping or switches being made that can cause that.. Does anyone recall what where and how to adjust and / or check for this? At 70 mph in 5th gear, for example, would a tall wide windscreen and heavy winds be enough to cause the bike to do that? Cheers

I put my CarbTune on the top shelf and now using a 4 dial unit that seems to me easier to set up and actually use.. but that's just me.. I found the carb tune not as accurate.. Its a personal choice, either of them will do the job.

Yes, most likely it's the COLD doing causing that problem.. I recently reset all my channel after winter maintenance in a heated garage but on a recent cold weather run outside my local area I wasn't able to scan the channel to pick up the local stations.. it just kept going to next number, not scanning.. Got home, tried it again in the heated garage and no probs.

Over extension of the shock, just by simply doing a normal maintenance on the bike could have been enough to pooch the shock.. go figure eh? I put a new one the bike and within a couple of month it lost it's oil also.. what a waste.. So I installed a Works! shock and wow, what a huge difference.. Costs a little more, but it's the LAST shock I'll have to buy as this one CAN be serviced..

I've ridden with 880's on my VStar for years and got superb mileage out of them, love the handling etc etc.. but hadn't tried them on the RSV.. I know a few lads around here riding with them and no one's reported any problems after 2 or three sets over the years.. I wonder if it was just that one bad batch of tires that will haunt them for the rest of their lives?

I have mine mounted the same place as yours but I have the corners wrapped in foam to keep it from knocking when I hit bumps.. zip ties attached to the frame and such.. no worries, works great.. Just ensure to keep the in and outs of the horn clear.. Cheers

My 2006 Midnight is de-badged, has a few non-standard parts on it, and of course the black ceramic Rineharts making their awesome sounds.. Always fun to have a Harley guy roll up, listen to the sounds and shout over "Now THAT is how a Harley should sound like, yeah!" Happened last week.. all I could say was " yes, you are absolutely right" and rolled away hehe.. Nothing makes pipes sound great like a V4

Engine whining after oil change

OOPS, just to help me understand properly about weights and such on oils.. what temp range is this Rotella-T Synthic 5w-40 good for within what ranges? Right now we're sneaking in rides in the high 30s low 40's.. and summer time up to 90's.. but mostly in the 70-80 range.. My bike is stored indoors in a heated garage, so when it's cold out no probs starting it.. The bike has close to 90,000 miles on it.. I just put Rotella-T Synthic 5w-40 in it and not smelling any oil or burning or anything (is the engine too old / used for synthetics?) Thanks if you can shed some light on this.. Cheers -

if you go online and do a search you'll find the hose and couplings for that.. a lot of people I know who have them love them.. I have a set here not used because I have progressive springs in my forks and zero air required.. makes it easier.. -

And I had the opposite effect when I put T6 on this last post winter oil change.. the previous 2 hour ride in the blistering cold was loud and whiny (could have been me!) but after I changed the oil to T6 and new filter, the shifting is smoother, the engine feels smoother (I did do a carb synch as well...?) and it's quieter.. but it's just as cold outside.. brr. Curious to know what is causing the whine noise on your bike! -
That's why I have TWO of his seats.. a pillow top and the oem 2006 Midnight seat.. I do so much riding and my erhm assets tend to flatten down a bit I use one seat for local riding and the other for the long haul trips.. Its a worth while mod!

Once you pull away the fabric and look at what's all there you will find that it's painfully simple to figure out I just had mine off to put leather covering on the lids.. -
This will happen to any bike, not just ours.. add a little dust to the road and it compounds the problem.. This is why I never SS braid the lines to the rear brake. The point is to have full controlled braking when you bring the bike to a stop.. even more so when in an emergency..

As far as I'm concerned, you should NEVER want to lock up the front wheel of any bike, even though it's possible on some bikes within difference riding conditions and road surfaces. As soon as you lock your front wheels, you've lost ALL control of your bike! If you lock your rear wheel, that's another story, you can still steer your bike. But lock that front and you're most likely going to kiss some pavement or lose the ability to control your bike. Any safety course will teach you that if you do an emergency braking maneuver and you find your rear break locked, not to worry about it too much.. however, if you find your front brake locked, ease up and reapply brake again. Its like ABS braking on winter roads.. as long as the wheels can turn, you can steer the vehicle.. if the wheels lock up, you're sliding into something. My RSV used to nose dive hard when I put on a lot of front brake due to the shocks were in need of servicing.. I've since then put in progressive springs and synthetic oil in the forks and the bike doesn't nose dive anymore, and I find my braking a lot more effective and less scary on this bike, having better weight shift control.. Remember, as the weight of the bike transfers over to the front wheel in a nose dive, the rear wheel gets lighter, thus losing contact with the surface of the road and then skidding / sliding. I put on black SS braided lines on the front brakes but left the rubber oem hose on the back to avoid inadvertent locking of the rear brakes. I have also installed HH Sintered pads on the front and back and they are lasting a long time and wearing evenly. The rear pads, with over 30,000 miles on them are very close to the same thickness.. the inner one being ever so slightly worn down more so I swapped them around to get more life out of them. Handling on this bike is a pig, it's a large heavy bike, so it won't toss around like a little cruiser bike.. but with leveling links, proper tire pressure, riding the clutch, dragging the rear brakes slow riding techniques, this big bike will handle the parking lots with ease, without the rider needing to do the classic HD Duck Walk but that's just me...

Oh, from them useless tits on a bull.. Dunno what you can do with those because the connectors are so huge on the back it might be more difficult to shield the lugs.. But that's the principle idea behind it.. -

You should ask him how many yards he's put on his bike this month.. If you haven't put 20,000 miles on your bike in 6 months, you haven't been riding it.. or you're not retired yet. hehe
