I'm Home

Wanderer....check out the N. Va meet-n-eat coming up later this month...or you can just try to hook up with them at the Motorcycle Show in D.C. I am not sure if I will be able to do either because of work schedules. Welcome to the area (even if only temporarily). It is a bit nippy out there today.
2. Kind of hard to put saddlebags and a tourpak on that thing...
3. That's him....I retired in 2002 after 27 1/2 years. I supervised the unit where Jim worked from '95 to '99. I put the suit on a couple of times to take a bite from his partner and even with the sleeve you definitely can feel it. I always liked the demo he did with his partner hiding in the ice cream cart. I knew he was finally retiring and will have to get to the ceremony. He is known almost as much for his cooking as his work with K-9.
4. Thanks for posting. I will have to visit the memorial when I go to Blacksburg on the Hogs 4 Hokies ride. Also looks like my friend Jim Matarese in the video. I spent many years working with him before I retired.
5. Only a couple of times a day....and I can stop anytime I want, it's not an addiction...I know I can stop.....it is just a matter of self control.....yeh I can stop....but not today, maybe tomorrow or the day after....
6. This is between D.C. and Baltimore. Probably not going to be riding for a day or two.
7. The model year in question for the tech bulletin was 2007. I had the leak on mine and it was covered by the warranty.
8. Welcome to the neighborhood. I live right down the road from Ft. Meade and No Such Agency. PM me for my phone numbers and I would be more than happy to help you with anything I can. Normally we can get some decent winter riding in but it looks to be a wet one this year. :wel_3Wa:
9. If you use Firefox there is an automatic pager add-in which makes it possible to just keep scrolling down and it will keep loading the next page.
10. I was on my way into Getttysburg with 3 others on Harley's when I spotted an '07 heading southbound on Business Rt. 15 south of the Yamaha dealer. It was about half past Noon. Wondering if it was anyone here?
11. The first thing I did before I moved into my new (20 years ago) house was seal the basement and garage concrete floors. Really keeps the dust down and makes them easy to keep clean.

How long

I started riding with a 1970 RD350 and continued riding Yamaha's moving up to a TX500 in 1975 and then a 1980 XS850SG and in 2007 an RSV..then in 2008 I picked up a used 2003 Harley Ultra Classic. I will be trading in the Harley in January for a 2010 Ultra Limited.
13. Gotta be a 1st Gen, not aerodynamic enough to be 2nd Gen....
14. I had a 1980 850 SG Special that I kept until last year. Was the first new bike that I bought and it served me well for many years, primarily as a commuter and weekend runabout. Never did any distance riding on it and unfortunately wasn't good about keeping stabilizer in the gas tank and had to have the carbs rebuilt a couple of times until I learned. One of the last bikes with an auxiliary kick start. My choice to restore would be a TX500 like I had in 1975. Good luck!
15. I sold my '07 RSV to Randy, brother-in-law to Donaldj2242. They rode down to Maryland from Michigan on Saturday to pick it up. Don's father joined them on his Harley. I really enjoyed the bike but didn't have room to store two bikes over the winter. I am planning to sell my '03 Harley Ultra Classic in January and pick up a new Harley Ultra Limited. I threw in my Carbon One lift adapter which he strapped in for the ride home. Now we just need to get Randy to join VentureRider.
16. Now that you are part of it, your contributions will help the next newcomer. Welcome aboard.
17. As an owner of both an '07 RSV and an '03 Ultra Classic I can say that each has its own strong points. I like the room and comfort of my RSV and I like the liquid cooled V-4. I like the way the Harley feels in the city with the torque and responsive slow speed handling. They both perform well on the highway and are good touring bikes. Either one can be as loud or quiet as you want it to be. I am looking very closely at consolidating down to one bike and it will probably be a 2010 Harley Ultra Classic Limited. With the new frame they are very close to the RSV in leg room, it comes standard with ABS, a larger motor and heated grips, passing lamps and luggage rack, throw in the fuel injection and a modern audio package and it compares very well against an RSV with the only major difference being the price and as mentioned earlier you can pick that up on the back end. If you want to spend money on chome and accessories you can do that, but you don't need to. IMHO
18. Sort of a role reversal from the old Harley service cars of the '50s.
19. I have an '07 RSV and an '03 H-D Ultra. The RSV is more comfortable for long rides but the Ultra is not bad. I have put in long rides on both. A lot of the objections to the H-D Ultra have been addressed in the '09 upgrades; longer wheel base with more room for rider and passenger, re-routed the exhaust to get away from passengers right leg. I am looking at the '10 Ultra limited which comes with the larger 103 cu. in. engine and ABS standard. Just sitting on it my wife says it is as comfortable and has comparable room as the RSV. Haven't ridden one yet but it makes it a much closer call. The real question is......is it worth the extra money to get a CD instead of the tape deck?
20. Rt. 33 west from Harrisonburg to Senaca Rocks is a great route, you can continue west on Rt. 33 to Elkins and then take Rt. 219 North to Rt. 50 toward Winchester. A lot of great riding there.
21. I am still a satisfied customer Larry. My RSV spent last winter on the free standing adapter. Made it a cinch to maneuver around on the jack and put it in the corner of the garage. Thanks for a great product.
22. I don't think it will be a problem, as long as the top number is still 40W and you used a high quality oil. But what do I know, I have to use diesel oil in my Harley...
23. My Harley owner's manual specifies diesel engine oil if you can't get their Harley brand. Based upon what I have read here I will probably use the same specification in my RSV.
