  1. This is the rumor I have been hearing and it would be interesting. If they want to keep it a long distance tourer they will have to solve the small gas tank issue that they have with the V-Rod. It will take more than just dropping the V-Rod engine in the touring frame. I would be interested, although I am happy with my Ultra Limited.
  2. I bought a 2010 Ultra Limited 2 years ago and I have been very happy with it. I like the lower center of gravity and low end torque for riding around town. The '09 and later models have a new frame which gives the passenger room that is comparable to the RSV. I also like the wide range of options that are available to personalize the bike. Still have to copy all those cassettes tapes to CDs though.
  3. I am using a synthetic in my Ultra Limited, but when I needed to add oil in my previous '03 I found that they recommend a diesel rated dino oil. Hard to find in the right viscosity sometimes but its out there.
  4. Graduated from college in "71 and bought a Yamaha RD-350 and have been riding ever since.
  5. Took the opportunity to ride up to Antietam to meet a friend. The weather was great for this time of year. Lets hope this is one of those mild winters.

    Harley owners

I have a 2010 Ultra Limited. Had an '03 Ultra Classic Anniversary Edition and '07 RSV.
  7. Quite a few of the Harley guys I know and ride with started with other brands, in particular Yamahas. They play the role of Harley or nothing but when I had my '07 RSV they conceded that it was a good looking bike and had no trouble keeping up with them.
  8. American La France will be jealous.
  9. Gloves, helmet and long pants; all the time.
  10. I have read a lot about the wobble and many Harley riders will add a stabilizing bracket that is supposed to eliminate the wobble. This issue was supposed to be resolved with the upgraded frame on the 09 models. I never experienced it on my '03 or on my current '10.
  11. Yammer, Had mine out about 6 weeks ago and never felt better. I haven't had any problems with anything I eat. I guess everyone reacts a little differently. Maybe you should get an endoscopy just to make sure everything else is working as it should. Hope you feel better soon.
  12. I went from an '07 RSV to a 2010 Ultra Classic Limited. Feel better balanced at low speed because of the lower center of gravity, came with ABS and heated grips. There is no shortage of after market parts to "make it your own" it has a great Harmon-Kardon sound system with built in CD player (but no tape deck). On the road they are both about equal in my opinion. The Harley pulls better around town because of the torque but as anyone here will remind you the RSV will accelerate longer and faster. I was happy with my RSV and I am happy with my Limited. Bottom line is ride what you like and like what you ride but most importantly, Ride!
  13. I was riding with a friend of mine a couple years ago and I mentioned the headlight adjustment knob on my '07 RSV and he said "I wish I had one on my '02". Then he looked and found it......after having the bike for 5 years....
  14. Will say a prayer for you and your doctors. Hoping for the best possible results.
  15. Best way to dodge the traffic is to stay north of the city and I-287 across the Tappan Zee Bridge and then take the Garden State Parkway south to the turnpike. You can jump off the turnpike at Bordentown (Exit 70 and get some cheap Jersey gas and then jump on I-295 south and skip the tolls. I-295 will take you down to the Delaware Bridge. Or - If you time it right you can stay on I-95 and take the Cross Bronx Expressway to the G.W. Bridge and get on the turnpike at the north end. Good luck.
  16. Hope all is well with your check up.
  17. The strectched frame on the 09 and newer Harley's is what really made it possible for me to go with the new Limited. The wife took her first ride on it a couple weeks ago and she had no complaints. Pretty close to the RSV in leg room all around. The lower center of gravity, low end torque and seat height make it feel more manuvearable around town. Yamaha can make a better bike, they just need to do it.
  18. I had an 07 RSV which I liked very much and had an 03 Harley which I also liked. I only had time and space for one bike and ended up with a 2010 Ultra Limited which came with a fuel injected engine, six speed transmission, ABS and heated hand grips. Although it doesn't have a tape deck, it does have a CD player. The new frame (09 and newer) gives as much room as the RSV and is a great touring bike. I can choose from an almost unlimited supply of aftermarket parts to "make it mine". If Yamaha put half the effort in developing and marketing the RSV it make it a better bike. I was very happy with my 07 RSV and if I had the time to ride two bikes and the room to store them I would still have it. As others have said, ride what you like and like what you ride.
  19. I called my insurance company today because I was trading in my 2003 Harley Ultra for a 2010 Ultra. When I tried to change over the coverage I was told that they are no longer writing motorcycle policies in Maryland and that I could use their "General Agent" for the new bike. I have had insurance with them (USAA) since 1972 and have always had a motorcycle on my auto policy. Their partner agency is Progressive and their price was not out of line with what I was paying when it was on my auto policy but now I have two different companies to deal with and pay premiums to. Has anyone else run into this with USAA?
  20. I would recommend getting a tax accountant to help you the first year, after that you can determine whether you need that level of support for the subsequent years. BTW what you pay the accountant is deductable as a business expense. You will find that you will have a lot of deductions, but want to maintain accurate records, particularly when it comes to business use of your vehicle. Are you going to be working out in Front Royal? PS - did you see the story about the CBP K-9 bite at IAD yesterday?
  21. Looks like you had a great ride. I am only about an hour and a half away from Front Royal and hope to make the trip this year.
  22. I served on the USCGC Alert (WMEC-630) - '72 to '73 doing fisheries patrols and ice patrol in the North Atlantic, then in HQ setting up the National Response Center.
  23. Congrats! I hope she enjoys a challenging and exciting career. I wouldn't have traded mine for any other job. Just remember she will probably be working a lot of nights and weekends so you have to be flexible with your family plans. She will need your understanding and support. (You might want to get yourself an extra handcuff key and keep it with you in case she wants to "practice" on you)
