  1. I was sitting here doing my income taxes when I got a call from PayPal. They said that somebody in Germany had tried to use my PayPal debit card this morning for about $75.00 worth of Netflix movies. They caught it and declined the charge. So, now I have canceled that card and ordered a new one. What a world it is that we live in today. I DID finally get my taxes finished and filed. That could have gone better also.
  2. I just finished doing my taxes last night, and efiled them. I got an email back from the efile company stating that the IRS is not accepting or processing any taxes (paper or electronic) that used a Schedule A, till at least 2-14-2011. Baby needs new toys.
  3. I am starting a new job training dogs for the federal govt March 1 and will be a contract trainer. This was my specialty for the last 23 years as a civilian police officer and am looking forward to getting back to work with dogs. I've done the process where I've registered as a sole proprietor and all the other difficult paperwork. I know I'll need to pay my own taxes quarterly and my wife is good with stuff like that so figuring out what to pay should be ok. What I'm trying to figure out is is there any resource where I can find what exactly I can deduct and can't off the taxes. I'm wondering if I'll need to hire someone for the first year to help with the taxes. This is a five year contract. Any advice from anyone in this position would be appreciated.
  4. THE JOB - URINE TEST (Whoever wrote this one deserves a HUGE pat on the back!) Like most folks in this country, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck in my case, I am required to pass a random urine test (with which I have no problem). What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. So, here is my Question: Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their ass - doing drugs, while I work. . . Can you imagine how much money each state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? I guess we could title that program, 'Urine or You're Out'. Pass this along if you agree or simply ignore it if you don't. Hope you all will pass it along, though. Something has to change in this country -- and soon
  5. hey every one, i dont normaly like to air my own dirty laundry but i need some advice from friends ( you all) my diviorce became finial 2 yrs ago and since i have found a wounderful understanding lady to share my life with. Now here is my problem... she owes me alot of money from the diviorce 14,000 plus but here is the bigger issue taxes!!! while i was deployed to iraq she filed our returns (married filling seprate) she got a refund for 2 years and i got a tax bill for 3600 one year and 6500 for the second. now the judge has ordered a amended return to be filled for both years which would clear all that debt for the most part and im only responcable for 1/2 of any debt now for the real kicker she tried to do the amended taxes herself and fordged my signature on those returns.. the courts now know of this and have kinda left it up to me about sending her to jail.. im tired of her making excusses about not payiong me and i need to get out of dutch with the irs.. any and all advice will be taken under consideration.. thanks in advance. Ron
  6. i got this in today and thought i wold share it with y'all Becoming Illegal (Actual letter from an Iowa resident and sent to his senator) The Honorable Tom Harkin 731 Hart Senate Office Building Phone (202) 2243254 Washington DC , 20510 Dear Senator Harkin, As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you. My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill 's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out. Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I 'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005. Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year. Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as ' in-state ' tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son. Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver ' s license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is v ery important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car. If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance. Your Loyal Constituent, (hoping to reach ' illegal alien ' status rather than just a bonafide citizen of the USA ) Donald Ruppert Burlington, IA Get your Forms (NOW)!! 7. wow.......i must say Missouri is impressive when it comes to turn around time on taxes.... I always do our taxes and I filed them tuesday night.....i file electronically and do direct deposit..... both returns were approved by mid day wednesday and ...we already got our refund from the state in the bank this morning !!! Federal should be here by the end of next week. Fastest its ever happened. The best news is......we are getting enough back this year from both state and federal to pay off a bunch of stuff..........and cover that dang bill for the van fix:yikes: which will help our finances tremendously!!! all we will have left is the bike payment and the mortgage ( of course) This is all great for us since the economy is so unstable, especially if you are working for an automaker and dealing with layoffs here and there. For once I can honestly say.............THINGS ARE LOOKING UP !!!!
  8. CHECKLIST FOR A MISERABLE WEEKEND! 1. BOTTLE OF IBUPROFEN 2. BOTTLE OF ANTACID 3. BOTTLE OF WINE I'M WORKING ON TAXES THIS WEEKEND!:bawling:
  9. WOW I just came back from Napa here in Windsor and I bought a can of Seafoam. It cost me $11.90 plus taxes (cdn) I complained about the price to the counter clerk and he said that everyone says the same. I told him I could get it in Detroit for $6.99 to $7.99 a can. I'll stock up there next time. Then I was following someone's post about using Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak to stop a front fork leak and that was $13.21 plus taxes for a small bottle. I sure hope it stops my small leak. What a ripoff it is in Canada. DonB
