  1. Craig: Done. Hopefully a great start to the New Year! Now if we can just get it to warm up so we can ride again this week end.
  2. It must be a Japanese thing....my 2005 Toyota Avalon came with a cassette deck but when I traded it in for an '08 this year I found that they deleted the cassette deck and replaced it with storage, just like some have done on the RSV.
  3. I learned very early....never buy your wife a gift that has a power cord attached to it. They seem to like gifts that come in small boxes, and rabbit food is best (carats).
  4. My bike had less than 8K miles when I had the problem.
  5. I had a similar problem with my 07 during a meet and eat in PA. We rode a to lunch and then after lunch as we started for a ride the bike would not start. It turned over fine but would not fire. Tried switching the fuel to reserve and cycling the cut off switch. Nothing worked, then after a couple of minutes it fired right up. Haven't had a problem since then but I will keep this in mind in case the problem recurs. Thanks for the info.
  6. I don't know of a Yamaha paint code number.
  7. http://www.colorrite.com/matrix-colors.cfm?CFID=372309&CFTOKEN=28654324 Color-Rite lists the codes 0865 for Galaxy Blue, (Deep Purplish Blue Metallic is their name) and 0033 for the Raven (Yamaha Black). I found that their Blue matched very well. I used it to paint the trunk lip light since Yamaha doesn't offer it pre-painted for the 07.
  8. Harley has had the feature for a couple of years. I think it was first available when they went with the bigger engine in 07. Originally it was a programming option on the ECM, then for 09 it became a standard feature. You just roll the throttle forward (past closed) and it shuts down the rear cylinder to reduce the heat in traffic during hot weather. The Harley is drive by wire. Pilot can correct me if I am wrong on this.
  9. Not every 07 has the problem, but it is best to have them re-torque the heads to be sure. If it starts to leak then they have to tear down the engine and replace the head gaskets. There is a TSB on the problem.

    What to do?

That money will almost buy you a new 07 (some dealers still have them). You then have to add your accessories again and pay your Canadian tariffs. I don't know if the dealers have left over 08's they would be willing to deal on. Glad you are healing and ready to ride again.
  11. One thing you need to keep an eye on with the 2007 RSV is a possible coolant leak from improper torqueing of the heads. If it is not leaking yet I would have them checked at the first service opportunity. They can re-torque if it isn't leaking, but if it has started leaking they have to replace the head gaskets. It is all covered under warrantly but can take the dealer a week or two to get it done. There is a service bulletin on the problem.
  12. I have both an 07 Venture and an 03 Harley Ultra. The Venture is more comfortable for cruising and has more leg room. The Harley has more torque and is easier to handle around town. They are both fun and if I only could own one bike I would probably stick with the Venture, although the new Harley is making it a closer call.....but it doesn't come with a cassette deck.
  13. This may be another alternative to consider: Howard G. Messner 1-866-899-5962 Toll Free E.S.T. [/url]http://motorcyclemetal.com/ He says that he can provide a Penske shock engineered for the RSV. He has been very responsive to my e-mail inquiries, however I am not in the market yet. He is primarily focused on the H-D market but I think he is worth speaking to.
  14. Little Bob - if you are considering a Works Performance shock you may want to take a look at this site and give Howard a call. He is very responsive and may have an alternative that works as well or better. Just a suggestion. http://motorcyclemetal.com
  15. I noticed the same thing. Maybe it is like the movie "Back to the Future II"
  16. Looks like a great ride. I had the opportunity to ride through parts of Ohio this summer. Rode from D.C. to Marysville and back. Mostly off the main roads. Thanks for the pics.
  17. Below is a link to some photos from the ride. http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm114/Tombo359/So%20PA%20Meet%20and%20Eat/Ride on......
  18. It was 74 down to 136 to Rt 1 across the Conowingo Dam, then North on 222 to 272 left onto 372 then North onto the now infamous "River Road". It turned out to be no match for Gen I or Gen II Ventures. It was a great Meet 'n Eat with a great route to ride. Thanks to Randy and Craig for putting this together and laying out a great route. Hope to get a chance to see everyone soon. I will put some photos up soon. Ride on...
  19. I look forward to seeing you with the new scoot on Saturday. I also have a H-D UC (2003) and agree with Ken. I have less foot room on the H-D but it feels smaller and more maneuverable when riding in town in traffic. I also like the fuel injection, I keep forgetting to take off the choke on cool mornings. On the road the RSV is definitely more comfortable. Ride on...
  20. I found a reference on another forum regarding a supplier of Penske shocks for H-D motorcycles. I e-mailed and got a quick response from the owner. He quoted a price of approximately $500 and up, for a replacement shock for the RSV. I am not in the market yet but I recommend anyone considering replacing their rear shock to give this guy a look. He was very responsive to my questions. I would be interested in anyone who goes with a Penske. This is his contact info: Howard G. 21. Yep. I will bring up the rear with my posse. I hope to have about 3 or 4 bikes with me. I will finalize the number on Monday. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Ride on......

  23. I have an 07 RSV and 2003 Ultra Classic H-D. I have the J&M headsets and just bought the separate patch cord for each bike. Ride on.... Tombo
  24. Don't forget the rules.... This thread is worthless without them... I took my first real road trip last month on my 07 RSV and really loved it. I hope your's is as great as mine was. Ride on.... Tombo
  25. I have both a 2007 RSV and a 2003 Harley Ultra Classic. I got the RSV first and love it. I took it on a weekend trip to Marysville OH and was comfortable the whole time. I picked up the Harley from a friend at the beginning of the summer because I ride with a club that is all Harley. They are nice guys and several of them admired my RSV when I rode with them last summer (one even admitted that he previously rode a Yamaha RSTD). I enjoy riding the Harley in town because it is a little more maneuverable, but for long distance comfort it will always be the RSV. One advantage of the Harley is that you can usually find accessories to personalize it. Ironically, I purchased the Harley license plate light kit for both rides but it only fits on my RSV because my Harley has a removable trunk kit on it and lights don't fit. Bottom line is that people who say they will only ride one make of bike are limiting their opportunities for a lot of fun. Ride on.... Tombo
