This is going to be a bit winded but I feel its necessary to detail all of it so you can be either: bored out of your skull, or get a good understanding of what im trying to say..... Over the years I have read about how the ignition switch just fails, leaving some stranded without warning. Now, most of you who followed my various posts over the last few years know about my charging system issues, which are now fully resolved thanks to some lengthy phone calls..... That being said, I had installed a Signal Dynamics heads up charging system indicator (see link below) just before I installed the Buckeye stator upgrade. It is really super sensitive to any electrical draw as it reads in millivolts (whatever that is) and it literally drove me (and Squidly) nuts after I installed the new stator. Rectifier followed and all connections were dialectriacally greased. (Was that a word?) All was fine. However, somewhere down the road the nice indicator light would stay yellow most of the time, only occasionally dipping into the green then back to yellow. It was red whenever I turned on the driving lights. All of my tests with the DMM showed the bike was charging. I figured I would just take Squidleys advice and just ignore the light. Well, it still drove me nuts. I started wondering about the condition of the ignition switch and whether it was a part of the charging system. I asked several knowledgable sources who had different thoughts on this. One actually referenced the wiring diagram and said that it did not appear to run through the charging system. Still not a firm answer. So, since my tumblers in the ignition switch was worn badly and the switch is 10 years old AND it was probably one of the last original electrical components left on the bike I decided to replace it. Flatout in Indiana had the best price at 123.00 so I ordered the switch and installed it. I fired up the bike and, lo and behold I had a green light!!! A steady green light!!! Its been 2 weeks now and the charging system is doing what its supposed to do. So, my point to this little story is that maybe, just maybe. and its only my opinion, but I think that Signal Dynamics LED light just might have indicated that the switch was deteriorating and it warned me prior to a faulure. The ignition switch obviously has something to do with the charging system, or at least had a big draw on the system as it was on its way out. So, the moral to this long winded story is, check out the Signal Dynamics link below and think about ordering one for peace of mind. For the low price I think its well worth it. I also like the Kisan monitering device but at $140.00 bucks its a bit steep for me. I use the model 1050 single light. http://www.signaldynamics.com/products/Modules/HUVM.asp

So Carl, you go from a Metzeler to a Kenda Cruz???? You first genners really scare me sometimes......... But, I will say this to all of you Metzeler faithful: two out of three sets that I had on my 99 lost rubber AND I ran the proper inflation. Both German and Brazil made too. Tires are not designed to delaminate just because of a few lbs of air pressure difference. If your tire pressure is that low to do that kind of damage then you would have had a really lousy handling bike in the first place. For those of you who have had no issues with your 880's, more power to you, but keep checking them for cracking/chunking/delamination/(fill in the blank)......

Skid, this should give you a good price comparison. That 2002 sounds like a decent price. What extras does it have? http://www.cycletrader.com/find/search-results/NewOrUsed-Used/Type-Motorcycle/Zip-32225/Make-YAMAHA/Price-0,/Year-1999,2009/Keyword-royal%20star%20venture/Sort-Year:DESC/Radius-any/Page-1,25/Searchid-6186660/

Looks good Annie. That front end is sure unusual though. But it looks right with the Voyager kit.

Beware using your debit card at the gas pump
1BigDog replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
:confused07:OK, so now im confused. A while back a local news show ran a piece that recommended using the debit portion of your card with your pin# to make gas purchases in order to avoid the "hold" situation. I have been using the debit ever since without any money being put on hold. If I use the Credit portion I always get a $1.00 hold for several days until the credit clears. Maybe its a state thing? Or maybe different banks have different requirements? I have heard about high dollar hold amounts but I have never been held for more than $1.00. -
Yep, Rick at www.buckeyeperformance.com has an upgrade stator for $239.00. I installed one last year and it works great. http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/images/stator.jpg Higher Output Stator Yamaha RSV 99- & RSTD 05- XVZ1300 For those that have lots of lights and/or heated grips and clothing. We have the fix to your barely adequate OEM stator supplies. This stator is designed to give a higher output in the normal cruising range from 2000 to 3500 RPM's The OEM stator spec output is 30 amps. During testing we've seen increased output to a peak of 55 amps. No core exchange is needed these are NEW units. Each order comes with installation gaskets included. (Note: This unit requires hard wire (soldered) connection. As of 11/01/07 the Research and Development RSV has over 7000 trouble free miles of real life testing with this stator.) Fuel Filter Replacement & plastic surgery
1BigDog replied to DELSURFIN's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just replaced the filter with a slightly smaller diameter one. It just hangs in the rubber casing now. Makes changes much easier. -
OK, so now its back to normal..........if you can call us normal.

Another update: We finally figured out the problem. Some of the bearings on the machine were worn slightly but enough to mess up the straight cuts. New bearings are on order and everything should be up and running by next Thursday. My friend is taking some time off from work to finish this project. He apologizes that this has dragged on for so long. Soon.............real soon.......

Wow, I didnt even realize that about the VFW's. In 1971 I was still a HS Sophmore and kind of wild. But I do remember how returning Vets were treated by the public then. I just never understood just how anyone could treat returning war heros with such contempt. That was one thing that I did realize back then. Friends brothers were involved in the Vietnam war and I remember one of them was a Green Beret. A huge man, and he treated us wiseass kids like men. I never forgot that. A war by any other name is still a war.
