Front wheel bearings are gone
1BigDog replied to Brake Pad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Good grief.........maybe I can sell tickets to this slugfest in the making:Avatars_Gee_George: Sometimes things get way to technical here...... Mike, all of the work should be done under warranty. They tried to charge me for a rear bearing and seal back when the bike had 30k on it and was still under warranty. I insisted that it was a warranty item and when they checked with Yamaha they agreed. I wouldnt fuss with it. Let your dealer have the headache and if its not right , its on them. Whenever I have my wheels off for any reason but especially when I change tires I always shoot some lube onto the bearings. I use a needle injector to get under the seals and it works just fine. You can feel it going between the bearings and a few shots of Honda 60 grease will do the job nicely. 60K+ and no wheel drag or any strange noises. -
OK Cindy..while I wont be able to make it, I just purchased 3 raffle tickets. So, is the "fix" in for me????

:178:After much delays my friend Dan called me this AM with some good news. He cut out about 30 sets so far but since a few sets bit the dust on the initial cut he needs to get some more material. One of the major problem areas with this is the fact that 6061 T-6 is such a strong piece of aluminum that it has destroyed three 1/4" router bits so far. More bits are on order and sometime this week the initial sets will be taken up to his brothers shop in Savannah for rolling and bending, then polishing. With any luck most of the orders will be ready for shipping by early next week with the remaining sets soon to follow. I thank you all for your patience with this. The end result will be worth it.

To be honest with you I have not had contact with my friend who is making these since Wed. He was in the process of rebuilding his cutting table as the cuts he was making were slightly off. Turns out the bearings were worn which in turn allowed the cutter to wander slightly. I will definitely have a better status report no later than this coming Wed. Im really sorry this is taking so long. Since my name is attached to this project I wont allow any piece thats anything less then perfect be sent out. And no money will be collected until they pass my inspection and are packaged and ready to ship.

For those who have removed the AIS system
1BigDog replied to FreezyRider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That should work but in my case I was glad I had the radiator off since those bolts were frozen. Either way im glad the system is removed. -

Yea I know but its a perfect time to flush that radiator out. As a matter of fact, since my RSV is also a 99, I also replaced the thermostat and the thermo sensor along with all o-rings and replaced the radiator hoses with new ones. But accessing that thermostat housing is a bear. I didnt use Yamaha hoses but instead took one of the hoses to the auto parts store and matched the diameter and bought a foot long piece and cut to size. Foot long piece was only 3 bucks vs 7 apiece from Yamaha and I didnt have to wait for the parts. Have you thought about what you will use to plug the ports? I used heavy duty rubber boots which I bought from a rubber supply shop here in town. I coated the inside with high temp RTV, slid them on then clamped them down. Works great and its so much easier to do while the radiator is off. Here is a link from the rubber company I got my plugs from. If you decide to order them the proper size is #16 in black. http://hechtrubber.com/Home/Home.htm -

Joe, I removed my system a while ago. Yes, you have to remove the radiator to access it. My screws were frozen on behind the radiator and I ended clipping the wire holddown with a pair of snips to remove it. It sure makes access easier and looks much cleaner without all that junk around the engine. -

I ordered a pair of glasses from them last year and they are still holding up well. The consumer radio guy Clark Howard claims hes happy with them, especially the price. I guess every company will have some complaints against them. What I liked about these is the fact that it has a foam padded seal around the lens, which blocks out wind. I really wanted a full prescription set with bifocals but the cheapest was over 300.00. And if I lose 39.00 bucks so be it....

I found this site (ok, Clark Howard cited it on his show) last year when I needed prescription glasses. Well, its now time to buy Prescription riding goggles as the ol eyes are getting a bit worse. I looked at some other sites for prescription motorcycle sunglasses/goggles but was shocked at the prices. Most were well over $300.00. $39.00 you cant go wrong. Last year I bought my prescription glasses with bi-focals from Zenni for 43.00. Ill see how these bike glasses work. http://www.zennioptical.com/cart/product.php?productid=1194&cat=27&page=1

A Honda or Acura car dealership will have it.

Theyre living in the "lets charge them the maximum per hour that we can get away with world" Personally, I drop both bags so I can clean up the whole area better. I also remove the whole rail system under the bags as 1 piece to give me much clearance. Caliper too. What I also do is to use a floor jack under the wheel (once its raised on the bike jack of course) to raise and lower the wheel. Sure makes it easier on the back.

Go for the earlier 2nd gen RSV. A co-worker was going to buy a new RSV 2 years ago, went to the dealer and saw a Stratoliner with Vance and Hines pipes on it and he shelled out 15k for it. Once he realized he didnt like the bike he went to trade it in on a RSV and was only offered 9k in trade....man he was pi**ed. I think someone here has an 03 listed in that price range.
