  1. New Avon arrived today. Ordered it Sunday night from Competition Tires and they arrived today....That was fast! Free shipping too...
  2. Having been born in Brooklyn in 1955 and leaving there in 1990 for Florida I thought maybe a nice visit back home would be nice. So, we took a plane up to NYC last week for 4 days vacation and our anniversary. Never again. While the food was still the best, you sure do pay for it. We also rented a car. The roads are just as lousy if not worse then I remember. Driving around was akin to being in a Mad Max movie and im not making this up. I must have had 10 close calls in those 4 days. Parking is abysimal. Double parking is rampant. You pay for parking through the nose. Maybe I have been gone from there too long but people are just plain rude. And some of the old neighborhoods are now looking like some other country. Flushing Queens now looks like any street in Hong Cong and I dont just mean the people. The stores all have the bright garish signs that you see in shots of Hong Cong. Jackson Heights reminds me of some third world area. Buildings are stuck just about anywhere with no thought given to its surroundings. My old hang-outs like Pizza City and the big Bow-Wow in Howard Beach are all gone. White Castle dont taste the same. Many cars now sport BumperBully's, a rubber drape that covers your rear bumper so the idiot parking behind you dont scratch your bumper when he hits it, and he will. Laguardia Airport looks like it should be condemned. Its filthy. Guess im used to clean places now. Jax and Baltimore airports are spotless. Some good points: SouthWest airlines was first rate. Hotel was good. We stopped for lunch at Katz' Deli in lower Manhattan on Houston street. Paid 3 bucks to park for 1 hour and 15 bucks for a Pastrami on rye. But, this sandwich was the bomb. If you have never eaten a steamed pastrami or corned beef sandwich you dont know what your missing.Had some great Spumoni Ice Cream at Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn, TWICE!! (eat your heart out Tom!) Maspeth Pizza is still the best and Palermos Italian Pastries, well, you know:smile5:...3 boxes of italian pastries barely made it home in the luggage. The cannolis were totaled but with the help of a spoon, tasted great. We spent some time with relatives and other then the above things all was well. I resorted to some of my old language while driving though. And to think that I drove a tractor trailer in this mess for 15 years. No wonder im nuts..... Even Jean was glad we're back home as was the "kids". Next vacation will be someplace with a view, balcony, kitchenette and maybe an ocean for good measure. Florida Keys maybe or a mountain cabin in NC. OK, ill go to bed now.....
  3. I notice now with Firefox that I cannot copy/cut and paste like I could with IE. Anyone else having these issues. It also takes longer to load on some forums and to post. Im not too happy with it. Any one else have any issues too with it?
  4. Well kids, im gonna pull the trigger. My Avon rear tire wore out in less than 10k. I usually got closer to 14k on them. Didnt do anything different either. So......im looking to order a Kuhmo Power Star 758. One place had it for 52.90 with free shipping but its backordered for 45 days. I put in a price match request with a local dealer and ill see what he comes up with. He wants 69.00 for the tire. I read all the pros and cons and im still a bit leery but for the price ill give it a fair try. Guy at work put over 25k on his CT on his GW and does the dragon regularly. Since im not a twisties king of guy this may work for me.
  5. Son of a beach...... If you do make it to Jax stop for some coffee.
  6. Just about, but since my powerball ticket didnt come in ill stick with my trusty RSV:smile5:
  7. Maybe that explains why were all neurotic on this site.....
  8. Yea, I like it too. Especially the CVO version for 36k. Not a HD guy myself but I just like the looks of the Road Glide.
  9. Got mine from 1800 Petmeds. Iverhart, the generic alternative for Heartgard. Heartgard would have been over 325 bucks. I checked out that Pet Shed link and it concerns me that its in Australia....no offense Annie!! Prices are super though. My vet had concerns about products from overseas since regulations are much less then in the US. Plus lets add in the 90 bucks X 2 for each dog and that was another 180 bucks for shots and tests. There goes my chrome budget...
  10. Im hoping someone comes up with health reform for dogs!! Just ordered Heartworm pills for both kids. A 12 month supply for each came in at 256 bucks!!!! Good grief!! :mo money::bawling:
  11. I get my plugs from O'riellys auto parts. Always in stock. Now as far as the hesitation goes, my 99 was doing that a few years ago. Another member, Muffinman, used a tool called Colortune to adjust my carbs and havent had any more hesitation since. Before the Colortune I always had to drop a gear going up some bridges in town if I was in 5th. Now it just pulls steady up the bridge. With a Colortune you actually adjust the fuel/air mixture based on the color of the flame in your combustion chamber. Its also possible that your fuel filter may need to be changed too.
  12. Not one size fits all all the time, if you get my drift. Some mods may work wonders for some but are a nightmare for others. I tried the 130 tire thing and I hated it. After about 2k I went back to the 150. I too bought the steel to make my own leveling links but.....I have no handling issues to speak of so, ill just leave it stock. We all have our personal preferences. I mean, some just wear plain boxers while others wear pink, er, nevermind.....

  14. My wife and I both work for the post office. I get the day off with pay, she gets forced to work her holiday. For 2 days pay. Point that im trying to make is the Post Office claims that mail volumn is down drastically and they're in a financial squeeze, yet they still force employees in to work for double the pay for less mail. Go figure.
  15. I lost rubber twice from the rear of the 880's. 1st set lost rubber at 12k, 2nd set was fine, third set lost rubber at 9k. Ran 46-48 lbs of pressure too. Love the handling but I like my rubber to stay on the tire. One of my biggest concerns was Metzlers lack of concern when brought to their attention. "I must have abused the tire" was their response. If you run them, keep checking the rear tire for cracking in the tread area, which will most certainly follow with the loss of rubber at some point. I have no issues with the Avons so ill stick with them.
  16. Disclaimer: this is not a knock on those who chose to go to a different model. To each their own, and I mean that. Your reasons are all valid ones. I always wanted a Harley but when I got my RSV it was love at first sight. This is just one member's insight on why he still likes the RSV. After reading threads over the past year about members leaving the RSV and getting another bike, mainly because of the lack of upgrades, I said to myself, self, what do you dislike so much about the RSV that would make you part ways with it? I found nothing that would make me give up the ol' girl. Im a low tech kind of guy and the RSV is just fine for me. Would I pay the 20k MSRP for a new one now..no way. The technology hasnt caught up enough to warrant that kind of price. Harley and GW have increased their technical advantages over the years to kinda warrant that kind of price. But, like I said, for me the RSV suits my needs. Im comfortable on it. I can handle it just fine. Wife falls asleep on the back. And it still looks purty....Put untold amounts of upgrades over the years to make it just the way I like it. So, ill just enjoy my old bike a little while longer...
  17. Steve, your still under warranty..unless its a simple fix, let the dealer look at it first.
  18. Actually Mini and Yama Mama were dancing nude that day, while eating cheesecake with their toes.......:smile5: (I know, im gonna die a slow death for this)
  19. Cant add much more than what was already said but sure glad you two are here in one piece to post this. Im sure you will do well on the bike replacement. Good luck....
  20. I always knew 1st gens are for the birds.....
  21. Earl is making it real nice and breezy here in Jax. Pleasant weather for riding tonight. Too bad ill be downtown sitting in a concert hall watching War perform. Hope it stays off the coast for everyones sake!!
  22. Maybe those cables would like a little cable lube every few thousand miles or so..... As for the gas thingy.....back in the 70's when there were real live gas pumpers like myself I was squatting behind a car pumping the gas when it blew back right into my lap. The "Man of Steel" became quite heated up. Talk about pain! (and if Lewis can call his big jim I can call mine the man of steel...so there.)
  23. Eddie, have your dealer pull apart (seperate) the molex plug that plugs into the rectifier and inspect the wiring. Bet you find some burnt/corroded connections in there. Those plugs do go bad...mine sure did and it caused numerous electrical problems for me.
