First off do not, do not tie the high tension wires to the frame, this will cause RF bleed into the frame and give you greave. The check all the audio lines and move them away from any high tension wires, it doesn't take much sometimes.

Naddie is the GPS because she keeps naddering at me to go a different route than what comes to the front of my VENTURE, although sometimes she gets it right for a turn or two, and yes there are settings, and by Carl's intervention all toll roads and super slabs are to be avoided.

The best picture was not even taken, besides the one where Scamper decided to take a rest all by herself. We had just come off a hard pack road onto blacktop when Naddie says to turn left at the next intersection. Now the one we came off of was not very pretty at the end, some pavement, some gravel, some holes and a curve with a good downhill slant, and the one Naddie wanted us to take was only 25% that good, a large mudhole, curves and a good sized hill, tracks in the dried mud and some large gravel, soooo, I decided to carry on to the next 'exit'. Well there wasn't one, we ran dead end, but I hate to back track so we did another look see at the suggested route. Well it wasn't as bad the second time around, so we thought to attempt it, with the approval of Marca. Scamper made an honest effort, I got to say that, no problem to get around the mud hole, avoided the tracks rather well, climbed the incline like a nimble deer and headed herself around the corner at the top of the hill,,,,,,, piece of cake this back roads riding,,,,,, all you got to have is some guts and you can find all kinds of interesting things,,,,,, like a total wash out going down the other side of the hill, but no time to get cold feet at this point, there was nowhere for feet to be put down so onwards and downwards we went, got to the bottom and remembered that at this point I had poor Scamper in 3rd gear still,,,,,,,, the reason I remembered is that the very next 50 feet, she was going to need all the horsepower and grip and balance that she could muster, for there in front of us, just ahead, heading almost straight up (or so it seemed) was a 'road' built for a mountain goat,,,,,, not a Venture,,,, let alone one with a trailer and 2 up. I went to drop her into 1st, but all the time I had was to get her into 2nd, gave her all the throttle I dared and hung on. She tried hard, dug in, and gave it a supreme effort,,, but then she started to buck,,,, cough,,, buck some more and then gave her last. Half way up the hill she did make it though,,,, and even left a place for my feet to touch bottom and hold us all up,,,,,,, but now what,,,,,,,, couldn't go back down back up, there was only one way out,,,,, straight ahead.!!! Marca dismounted at this point and could have taken a picture, but was far to interested in the future delvelopments to worry over the camera thing. I fired Scamper back up, popped her into 1st and as a true 1st gen, she nimbley finished her treck up the hill as though this was just exactly what she was made for. Oh she did slip a little to one side and found that to be so interesting that she also desidered to slip to the other side and then back again, but I kept her to the job at hand and she made the top of the hill just fine. There we found a place to turn around and then of course came the expectant trip in reverse, but this should be easier, well it was,,,,somewhat, buts that's another story. Wish I had some pictures or video from this I tell you. The next day we get into soaking wet sand, puddles, and more fun hills. We had a great time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear you are ok and glad you posted what happened. We can all learn from the 'mistakes' of others.

Ah yes, and Metzler doesn't have any problem tires. Too many root canals going bad for me to even consider that route. When one of my teeth need that, I tick the dentist off and tell him to pull it out, now he can't make any more money it. Missing a tooth is only an issue for a few days, mostly until it quites hurting,,,,, until you start missing more than half, then for the price of 2 root canals you put in upper and lower partials,,,,,no more dentist income on those anyways.

Sounds to me like Becky had you muzzled up pretty good, seeing as everyone is saying how nice it was to meet you. lol .Glad you had a good time, and we hope to join the Wizard765 soon to meet with ya'll and see some pictures and hear some tall tails.

Darn, I leave to go for holidays for a week and now looks what happens, I miss all the good stuff, gonna haveta buy me one of those there on the road computer thingies,,,, course then I would have to learn how to operate it,,,,, and I'm having 'nough fun with Naddie my new riding companion.

Wizard765 and I both have a bottom load attenna and they work just fine. We also use a 3' one because of the low overhead going in and out of the garage. Wizard uses the splitter and I have 2 attennas. I like the look of 2 virsas one. Do your thing, as said before, just make sure the swr is matched and you'll be happy. Distance may be an issue, but in most cases it won't matter much as you'll probably only be communicating with fellow riders.

I had hoped to plan a ride for Labour Day as we have had this for the past 2 years, but somehow my better half managed to plan a Family Camping Weekend for that same weekend, so we are out of the loop. If you still would like to do this, I can help lay out a really nice route, GPS ready,,,,,,you can use our parking lot for staging, but we will not\can not be joining you.:bawling::bawling:

Marca and I are on our vacation, started Sat and spent the weekend with Wizard765 and Robin, had a great time riding the Muskokas in Ontario and staying with Uncle John and Aunt Mary. Left them on Tuesday and headed for Bancroft. Today started just as it was supposed to, beautiful sun, warm temp, awesome scoot and some great roads to ride. We ended up going down this scenic route that started out paved but soon turned into hard pack, going over hills and around corners that would make one wonder if it was a road at all sometimes. Beautiful place to ride, tree cover and right through the bush, did 48 km in about 3 hours, a real speed demon I was, average about 25 km\hr. What a relaxing time, although at times it made me wonder, Well after lunch and heading down the 620 we came to a roadside rest stop, and decided it was about time to check the water temperature to make sure all those folks out on the lake were safe enough. Left turn into the rest area, and scamper headed for the shade, made a sharp turn to the right at the end of the parking area, and then proceeded to dump off both her passengers, NOT nice I say, after all the tender guidance I gave her all morning, she now decides that Carl and Marca must get off now,and that with no warning. She could have let us do this right, but you know how women are sometimes. Well it all turned out quite respectful, Marca had her first encounter with being dumped, Scamper learned that it can cause some hurt and Carl was releaved that Marca climbed back on as though this was a normal happening. Looking forward to tomorrow and the days to come. Carl

Try routing your cable in a different direction. You are either picking up some RF noise from the high tension wires or you also may have a loose connection at the GPS. I don't have Buddy's cable but have danced with the same issue for a long time. Cable placement helps a lot to eleminating the problem altogether. You may also have a ground problem, elsewhere. Check and clean all the grounds that have to do with your audio, including the attenna, don't just look at them and say they're clean, clean them, and then make sure they are good and tight. The reason you don't hear the noise in the speakers is that the headsets are much more sensative to that type of noise, it's in the speakers alright, but masked by all the other sounds coming from there. Hope this helps.

You just be carefull now and don't over do it, just stay away from those mother clod-hoppers and you should be ok Enjoy the riding Carl

It's private so mind your own business. But inquiring minds would like to know,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

OOOO good to hear that you two are ok, kind of scary to read these type of posts. Hope all works out well for you two and your scoot. I'm sure that help will be available soon. I've never had that exact situation happen to me, but there has been times that it was close and that is when I found that the training course helped out mega time. I found that when I got into such a predicament the only way out was to push harder and roll on more throttle, not always was I was doing, and so cause an extra wide curvature. The instructors drilled us with the statement: THE THROTTLE IS YOUR FRIEND. I've come to believe that. The best to you Carl

He probably was laying asleep under the bike when it decided to take a leak or something like that. I may have it almost right, just maybe the words in the wrong order.

As I read your story and you came to the girlie\cashier part, I figured her to be somewhat good looking, although you didn't say, and when the lack of personality came through, that is when you suffered equipment failure. Glad it was just your horn and not something more serious.

The real reason for this change of heart is that my family decided that at 60, I might need a little help on the road, and what else do you get for a guy that has everything, so they got together and bought a GPS, but it is a Nuvi 250, which is not really good for a bike application and doesn't have all of what it takes. So I was on the search for what I should do and get. Thanks for all your help. Found a Lowrance XOG demo at Radio World, Toronto for $219.00 that has it all and then some, I know it's not a Garmin but then I really can't seem to spend $700.00 on something as fervilous as a GPS. A map book has worked just fine until now, and even gives one a reason to get off the seat a little more often to take a look at where we were, are, and might be going. It's also better for the cigarette manufacturers. As far as going through Montreal at the best of times??????? that ain't-a-going to happen, even Toronto or Hamilton get a pass when I'm on the scoot. If those folks need a visit, my door is always open and it's much more relaxed here than there, and then there's always the Saab. I mean if you can't ride for some reason, then a Saab is the way to go............ Crossover Road-Trail-Water GPS Navigation Taking a new direction in precision, all-purpose navigation, the innovative new Lowrance XOG cross-navigation, 12-channel GPS features ready-to-go street navigation and loads of optional outdoor maps. Rugged, weatherproof, fully portable and super-accurate with multimedia extras, the new XOG is the one-for-all companion for all your travels. Inside the car, on the trail, or in the boat! Maybe we could arrange a Meet & Greet at his place.????....?????

Darn, it didn't work, she's back on already and in full force, on to plan #2.

I would think a double dose on the donate button for leaving junk laying around that could hurt someone riding a Venture, or worse yet, hurt the Venture.

Had a 1980 here for repairs for about a month, but never got around to the carbs. It shouldn'r be hard to figure out though. Carb #1 will be the carb to which the throttle cable is attached and carb #2 will be directly linked to it on a separate linkage. carb #3 will be linked to carb # 1 with another link and Carb #4 will most likely be linked to carb # 3. So now you need to have a gauge hooked up to the vaccum ports in the intake manifold below the carbs, and then you need to find the adjusting screw that will adjust the throttle opening on each carb, except the one we designated to be #1. #1 will be adjusted with the throttlew stop screw. By adjusting the screw on #2 you can come up with the same vaccum reading as that of #1. RPM should be steady around 1000. You then adjust #4 (the carb that is linked to #3) to match # 3. You then adjust the # 3 carb to #1, all the while keeping the RPMs as close to 1000 as possible. After each adjustment and before going on to the next carb, you need to crack the throttle a couple of times to make sure all is seating properly. Hope this helps somewhat, it's kind of basic and will require some knowledge of mechanics and carbs, but to know what to look for might be of help. The basic idea is that the butterfly at the bottom of the carb creates a vaccum below it. By closing the butterfly you increase vaccum and by opening it you decrease vaccum, hence when all the vaccum readings are the same the butterflys will be open and closed exactly the same and so you have a balance. Snaupps???? Carl

A scam??? A mechanic for 30 years????? Handles like a 300 lb ride??????? Easy fix?????? Lots of parts available????? do I need to say more?????
