  1. Problem solved. Extra component was in the mix. Bike had a trailer hitch setup that had a modular connector within, wired from the tail light and tucked away by the fender. The module served it's own purpose but apparently can't work with other components. For now, we disconnected it. Can rewire the hitch later. I thought it was just a plug but as soon as Mike C saw it, like I said, problem solved. Now, those are bright lights!!!! Also, Mike Crider, "Light-Em-Up", really stuck with this. The man don't give up. So, if you are local to mid-SC, good man for lighting. Check the BarnYard flea market on Saturdays or PM me for his cell. Thought I should say so for the time he invested. Thanks all for input, Mike G in SC
  2. I had a 2006 Stratoliner S for a bit over a year. Also had my RSTD same time. It's a sharp looking bike, good mechanics and few problems for me. Previous owner had put on a Mustang seat. (way too hard). I never warmed up to it. Felt like I was sitting on a telephone pole with a saddle. It has tons of raw power. You want to pass,,,, you pass even if you are already doing 90. It out handled my RSTD in the mountains (and left most of my friends too). My neighbor bought it, he's happy. I don't miss it a bit.
  3. George, Yes, I believe he did put in the load equalizer, along with the TriStar XP. This kit: http://signaldynamics.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=41&category_id=14&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=77&vmcchk=1&Itemid=77 Thanks for the wire codes. I will double check under the seat. Mike G.
  4. Sorry, clarity,,, he installed the same model of module on the new bike. Old bike still has his previous module and works great. I did pull both seats and follow each wire from the both modules to the bikes. Each one goes to the same wire on both bikes. I will send him a link to this thread. Perhaps the Kuryakyn would be best,,, he is not fond of their electronics but if it will work, okay. For locals, this is the Light-em-up guy (Mike C) that does lighting at the flea market on Saturdays. Knowledgeable guy, and trying like mad to make it right. Maybe I could figure a way to get both bikes to him for verification. Thanks, Mike G
  5. Months back, a lighting guy installed a Signal Dynamics module and LED's on my 2006 RSTD in my rear signal lights to make the Run/Turn/Brake. Really bright and works perfect. Last week he installed the same module & LED's in my 2009 Venture and gets different results. When you hit either turn signal, the other side lights up bright as a brake. When you turn off the turn signal, both lights stay on brake for 10 seconds then go back to run. Also, when you press the brake, and let go, the brake lights stay on for same 10 seconds then go back to run. Signal Dynamics says it's due to the 4 way flasher unit of the Venture and has no cure. The RSTD does not have 4 way flashers. The tail light (a 100 light LED) operates correctly. He is going to try a Badlands module to see if he gets different results. But if it's due to the hazzards, may hit same snag. Anyone else hit this snag. Basically when you trip the turn or brake, the brake lights stay on for 10 seconds after you release. This could fool a following bike into thinking you are riding brakes or just stupid. Probably the latter. Thanks, Mike G in SC
  6. Kind of going where Kite Squid did. If you were in a parking lot and someone told you to do the tightest U-turn you could,,, or,, go scrape a peg,,,without even thinking about this question,,, what would you do. Yep, I know I would do a left U-ey. Maybe because I always put my left foot down to stop. And, my right foot may be feathering the brake and less likely to be available.
  7. Looking at the same trailer on ebay in "completed listings" they also turned down $6150 as "reserve not met". So, start dreaming there. Mike G.
  8. I had the situation happen 4 years ago on my Roadstar. 4 lane 45 zone, shopping area. I was in inside lane. Line of traffic to my right was stopped, turning into a shopping center, clear in my lane. But I was skeptical as I was passing them, so kept my eyes open. Never trust a line of stopped cars. Some jerk in a big SUV signaled a waiting car it pull out, not taking my lane into account. So at 45 I was staring at a small car pulling right in my path. He saw me and panicked and stopped right in my lane. I locked up both brakes and at last second cut left and laid it down on it's left side. More of a drop then a slide. My rear tire slid almost under his car but it stopped without contact. As my tire smoke rolled over us I was able to stand up with no injury. My left foot peg (on my highway bar) got banged but that was about it. Like already said, if I had hit him, it would have been with the bottom of my bike, not head on. I like to think I got the best of that situation. I got enough notice to do something. That's not always the case. Mike G
  9. JFoster, I got the Strat 8/09, kept it a year. During that year I rode my RSTD about 18k miles, the Strat about 4K and lent it out for another thousand. It is a great machine, tons of power and great steering in the mountains. Geared good for the mountains. But my mountains are 3 hours away. As for my normal riding, I never warmed up to it. It had Mustang seats. I felt like I was sitting on a phone pole with a saddle. I hated the handle bar reach. Felt the throttle was a bit raw and hirky-jerky. Lots of people love them, I was tickled to sell it. Guess I got spoiled by the RSTD with Ultimate Seats. I sit in the Royal, sit on the Strat. The throttling and gearing (up and down) on the Royal just feels good, not near so smooth on the Strat. But I did lend it out several times to some friends who lost their Strat to the bank. They said it rode just like theirs and they would have bought it,,, if it wern't for that money thing. I get a bit insulted when I hear people say the Strat Deluxe is the Venture of the future,,,, rubish. So with the uncertain future of the Venture, I now proudly got one as I sold the Strat. Now I have two really great machines (RSTD=daily commute & RSV=me and wife),,,, and I ride TO the mountains in comfort! Mike G
  10. 75k miles on RSTD,,, Not yet? Isn't that the answer for those who have not? Dropped my R* twice, once stupid, once to avoid a idiot. Never dropped my Strat, never will, sold it. Haven't had time to drop the Venture,,, I woudn't dare. Mike G in SC
  11. Ted, This was a mixed ride for me today, 480 miles of it. Carol and I are really just wowed to get your bike. It is a DREAM. But we know that "beating the repo" is not a joyful thing for you. No cause to celebrate, but pressure gone. Do come visit Columbia and your good friends in the area. And, as I plan on keeping my RSTD (Pathfinder) and the Dream,,, when you visit this area,, if you don't bring one, you will have a bike to ride !!!! (And, my neighbor will own my Strat tomorrow. Pretty machine, but not a Royal ride.) Mike and Carol Griswold in SC
  12. Wes0778 - Walter, I have seen IBM CA on a mini attached (Ethernet) to my AS/400. Worked fine. Did not try remote VPN software. (But my Vista 15" Toshiba does that okay.) You know anyone doing it with a I-Phone4? Got an APP for that? Mike G in SC
  13. The black looks nice, not sure why it's $40 more that the base model. But, someone on this or another forum bought the super chrome. Um, not steel chrome,,, just shinier plastic "chrome". Mine has worked fine on my RSTD for 60 of my 75k miles.
  14. So now we know that if we want to ride in the dryer,,,, DO NOT WEAR FROGG TOGGS !
  15. Lot's of good info. But the nicest thing is that changing oil/filter on the RSTD is the easiest on any bike I have ever had. You have one bolt that is on the down side when on the kick stand. (My R* had 2, My Strat has 3!) No need for a jack. You don't have to put in half oil now, start it and 1/2 later, like the R* and Strat. I use a large channel locks to remove the old filter (if needed). The only special tool you may want is a mechanics mirror on a stick, to check the new level. It's easy, so by all means do this at home.
  16. Yeah, actually there have been several threads noting this in the last several weeks. If he is still looking, www.ridedirect.com 1-866-574-1939 had a few left. I kept chasing and found them, a small distributor in the hills of eastern KY. Mine was 3 years old but that's not a problem for a Kevlar tire. It was $130 delivered. A little high for Internet price but,,, I got one. Mike G in SC EDIT: I did just go on that site and put one in my shopping cart. It took (and then I deleted it). Seems like the guy told me his inventory was live, so, per that, he still has some.
  17. We have the Whirlpool Cabrio set too. They are great. But get the ones with the glass doors, so you can see what the hell is going on in there. The washer does some stuff that you got to see, not just hear! Spins fast enought to move forward two time zones in the final spin. If you start it at 1 AM your clothes will be ready yesterday.
  18. Carbon One, Hey Larry, Bolt On, that's great. I have sent you a PM (Had to figure how to turn that on, so let me know if you do not get one). I will be tickled to have the extensions on the adapter. I had thought about replacing the Larin with a jack to fit YOUR adapter. Now won't need to. Thanks, Mike G in SC.
  19. I work for a rubber manufacturer (but not tires). I asked my senior tech compounder guy about some Michelin Commanders I just got. The front one had 0307. He said that, as it is Kevlar biased, it should be fine for 10 years (off the shelf). But steel belted were 4 yrs (Chinese) to 6 years (other). He said the steel will begin to corrode within the tire and cause seperation. (Keep in mind this assumes tires were never mounted and were warehoused properly.) But if you chase on the Internet, it appears that most say tires that have not been "in service" are good for about 6 years on the shelf, from mfg date. So, I don't have a problem with my 3 year old tire. I put 20k+ miles per year, so they won't be on there real long. A partial quote from a tire article: In a statement from the British Rubber Manufacturers Association (BRMA) issued on June 5, 2001 regarding the age of tires they state, "BRMA members strongly recommend that unused tires should not be put into service if they are over 6 years old and that all tires should be replaced 10 years from the date of their manufacture." Tire age can be accelerated by a variety of environmental factors, such as sunlight exposure and coastal climates. Poor storage and infrequent use of your vehicle are other things that can accelerate tire age.
  20. I do suggest Carbon One's adapter too. But measure the lift area width. My Larin is narrow by an inch. If I had read Carbon One's ad better I would have had him include a welded on extension. He does if for free but cannot send you one later. So, read & measure,,,, then order. "For those folks who have short lift arms of less than 13" on their jacks I offer a safety bar at no additional cost. " Mike G in SC
  21. My sister got hit by a jerk, and his insurance company started playing games. I told her to call her insurance company and have them get in on it. She did. They did. My understanding (if you have full coverage) is that you can request your insurance company to "take over". You will basically loose your deductable but hers took care of her compensations and then THEY delt with the other company. Call your insurance company back and see if this may be so.
  22. That was just pure fun,,,, THANKS for posting it. I will send that to some friends for sure. Yeah, I was impressed with the car. If you click on the top title "Following my BFF,,," it goes to a page that has some info: Car = Honda S2000 Mods = Intake, Exhaust, Buddy Club Coilovers Music = "Breath On" (Led Zeppelin vs. Frou Frou) by dINbOT "Here" by Gravity Kills "Never" by Gravity Kills Switch to NEW Flash Player
  23. First time I used mine,,,, I didn't read the manual. I neglected to include the reducer thingies. (The part where you cut off a few inches of hose and insert the reducers to reduce the jump.) It was hell trying to watch the action. If you already did that,,,,,,nevermind. Mike G in SC
  24. Persistance paid. I kept looking on the Internet and did find a small dealer with a hand full of Michelin Commander front 150/80-16 available. He had 5 left after mine. He was not aware of the outage. He's in the eastern hills of KY. I got mine last week. Good tire, now 2oo miles on it. Info: Dealer www.ridedirect.com or 866-574-1939 Price was $120.95 + $10 ground ship US = $130.95 delivered Ships same day if you call before the UPS truck comes. Date code on tire I got was "0307" , that is 3rd week of January 2007. Made in Spain. As that is a Kevlar belted tire, tire age is good (for 10 or so years). Date code on my rear "new" tire from national dealer was 3908, so don't think you will find fresh/new. He said he does price match if your other dealer has it in stock,,,, duhh,,, nope. He may have sold some more cause I have been trying to let the people on this forum and Star Touring know he has them. I've gone from Avons Venoms to the Michelin Commanders. I'm quite happy with initial results. I expect similar mileage. Oh, and the mix of Avon on the front and Michelin on the rear did fine for 1200 Blue Ridge miles last month. Post or email if you have questions. Good luck, Mike G in SC
  25. South Carolina enacted a "2 minute rule" last year. ABATE pushed it. But, I've been using serious magnets for several years too. I don't have the problem. If the signal is tripped by coils in the pavement (look for cut lines below you), the magnets make the coils think you are a garbage truck (avoid brand jokes here). On line, the one I have on my RSTD was something like Signal Magnet. It's about 1"x3" and glues to the bottom of the frame. But Tractor Supply sells "Cow Magnets" in the animal health dept., 3 pk for $8.99. I put these on my Strat. (Contact cement + straps.) Either bike WILL trip the light as good as a car. Just roll to stop with the magnet over the coil. Cow Magnets,,,,,, a whole other story,,,
