  1. Electric bike,,, No sound? ,,,but then there would be a new aftermarket for SOUND. Like,,, clothes pins with playing cards or baloons in your spokes !!!
  2. Then,,,, get one for the backrest/luggage rack. Comes off just as quick. Seems like my Strat had factory locks on each. Mike G
  3. About a year back, on this forum, some of us from SC got into a "love fest" about the continual good service of the Sumter SC Yamaha dealer. I did a copy/paste of the article and took it to the dealer. YES, it made their day. The service writers wife got teary eyed and it was passed around to everyone in the dealership. So, great idea. Just like all of us, they love a complement. Mike G
  4. Jerry, Here is a link to the ST swap shop for the 2 RSTD's I noted above. It includes some pictures. I'm guessing you can get there without membership: http://www.startouring.org/forum/default.aspx?f=12&m=128195 I'll check with Al and see if he wants me to post in VR classifieds. Mike G in SC
  5. Jerry, The steering does sound like a low tire, maybe the steering head bearing too tight. Could also be the brand of tire (Brimstones?). Yamaha does sell lower vents for the RSTD and the RSV, I have them on both of mine. They do more good in the winter to keep the cold off you. In the summer you can direct them inboard but it tends to push heat out on your legs. They are water cooled and yes, hotter ride at lower speeds. But I ride one every day and today is 100 degrees and tomorrow,,, 103. You wern't wearing no Florida flip-flops were you? There is a guy on the STAR Touring fourm with two RSTD's for sale, Al Baker. I thought he lives in FL but his bikes are in GA just above Atlanta. He knows bikes, he was a former SE director for ST. I don't see any on VR right now, so, here is his ST post: i have two (2) 2005 rstd motorcycles for sale can email pictures these motorcycles are in my garage in canton, georgia (north of atlanta) black/gray 35k miles 85% rubber dunlop elite 3 running lights good condition $6995.00 black/red 10k miles running lights and driver back rest. $7595.00 al baker 404-368-5755 cell 770-720-9554 work Abaker@cycle-nation.com patalbaker@aol.com
  6. Hope a lot of people read this especially those who go to 5th around 55-60. This is what the RSV and RSTD do best. Great to see it didn't ruin your ride. Mike G
  7. Just talked to Mike H. (still in WI) Dealer thinks it is the starter circuit relay. Has one on order. (Good guess, Al @ Extreme Sports- Sumter SC) Bummer, it did stop him from joining his buddies on the trip. Mike G
  8. That is a great price. I may have bought same from them last year. Most are closer to $109.
  9. And,,,,,,,,, of course the backside of Mt Rushmore! http://www.clevelandseniors.com/images/funny/mount-rushmore-rear.jpg
  10. George, That's a yes and a no. The set on my RSTD for the last 3 years really are mellow compared to the Khrome Werks I put on the RSV. Guess we need to meet up and find out. Hey I got an APP for that!! DB meter on my I-phone! Loudest buys,,,,, lunch. But,,,, the set of 4-2-4 I got for my RSV (after the Khrome Werks),,, yep LOUD. I even got them down some by re-packing the baffles. They are now in the barn! With my trip from SC to Wisconsin a few weeks ago, I went back to stock. You know what,,, now,, I kind of like the stock,, on the RSV. My reference to the "tin can" was about the KW "tips". The mufflers were okay. Just no weight or thickness on the tips. (I got the 15 degree slant.) Hence, suggesting Warior go with the Barons' tips.
  11. I have two sets of 4-2-4's. Both have the Barons's smaller "family jewels" scalloped tips. They look solid, thick, about 1/4" thick steel (or whatever they are), chromed, heavy. When I got some Khrome Werks, the tips were just tin cans, near the same price, I think. Keep life simple, just get the Baron's tips. Mike G in SC PS: didn't answer your post,,,,, cause I got the Baron's tips.
  12. Jeff, Mike H doesn't answer his cell, hopefully he's on the road.... I did leave your cell# and generous offer for parts on his voice mail. Mike G
  13. Just talked to Sumter SC dealer, Al at Extreme Sports. He also suggested the ignition,,, 'Starter Circuit Relay' specifically. He said Sleeperhawk had a similar problem after some rain. Figured moisture got in there and was shutting it down after about the same time/temp. Replaced it. Seems like they replaced mine also when they were chasing a start problem. Mine turned out to be the ignition switch it's self,,, but that was a no spark issue when starting. Don't know if dealer will have one on hand, but same part does fit other Yamahas. Maybe the other dealer has that part if they don't. Hope they get it today so you can head west! MIke G
  14. Mike, Good talking just now. I will check with my local dealer for any suggestions. On the gravity feed, try a straight connection between the petcock and the carb input. Could still be filter. AND VR, Mike said he has got 3 calls this morning - Good Group here! He is headed back to the dealer in 1/2 hour. Mike G
  15. Works fine,,,, keeps it simple.
  16. I have a used (10k miles) Kumho tire that was on my used 2009 Venture when I bought it in September 2010. I replaced it with a MC tire. Tire is in fine shape and has been sitting in my carport since then. If you are in my area (mid-SC) and would use the tire for yourself, come get it. I figure a fair barter would be a 12 pack of cold bottled Bud. Tire should be good to let you know if you want to go dark side with little investment. Or good if you want to get the remaining 20k miles or so. Look on the classifieds under 2nd generation parts for my post. Mike G in SC mikeginsc@bellsouth.net Lugoff, SC, off I-20, exit 92
  17. 83K miles on my '06 RSTD, 31k on my '09 RSV. And only put 10k on my Explorer last year,, LOL.
  18. I had your EXACT problem on my 2006 RSTD. Usually with cold engine I could find neutral. But after riding could not get there. Had to either hold in the clutch lever at any stop or try a dozen times, maybe get lucky. Only way was to kill the engine, then no problem. Changing oil did not help, fluids did not help, lube did not help. Even dealer, did not help. Said, sometimes they're like that. So I just lived with it a year or more. At about 50k miles I went ahead and replaced the clutch. Wasn't that bad but wanted to try the Barnett clutch plate. I also changed all disks with OEM. But GUESS WHAT!! My "finding neutral" problem was 100% gone. I'm at 82k miles now and just fine. If you can find a lesser fix,,, great. but that absolutely did it for me. Mike G in SC
  19. Great bike. Bet a lot of RSV riders would be looking that way if they still made them. Probably be saying the same thing in a year or two on the RSV! Keep some caution on peg scraping on it. They are less forgiving than the Royals when you get the pegs on the pavement in sweeping turns. (Long/short story) Mike G in SC
  20. Yes. Rear is normally done with a kit from Barron's (list about $175). That will take it down up to 1.5 inches using a calliper relocation bracket and a pair of "dogbone" links. (I have the kit but got new links made to only drop the rear .75".) The work takes about 1 hour, not overly complex. The front is more complex. You can also buy (Barron's too) parts to change the dynamics & height of the front (in the fork tubes) or you can "simply" drop the tripple tree on the forks up to about the same 1.5". Either way lowering the front requires removing the fairing and fairly skilled work, more like 4 hours if you know what you are doing. Also, some put the smaller tire on the front to get another .25". If you search the Venture forum for "LOWERING" you will find several threads on it. Oh, also, Rick Butler can modify your seat to take about 1" out of the seat height. Mike G in SC
  21. "The world is your urinal." Unless you are a U of SC quarterback coach. Pee in an alley, not on main street under a street light! Or kiss a sweet job bye bye. Geeze Bubba. Mike G
  22. I priced from Yamaha of Cucamonga, https://www.yocracing.com/accessory_store/store/yoc_advancedSearchExec.asp and printed that out and took that to my local Yamaha dealer. They basically did a price match. But then of course, sales tax for the local purchase. I put them on my RSV, but, they were too loud for me. I sold them, on this forum, but not sure if the new owner is happy or not. He liked them in the driveway, but have not hear about "on the road". But, then I got a used set of Baron's 4-2-4,, and too loud too, even re-did the baffles. That helped some. (But I have a set on my RSTD that sounds great, not so loud, go figure.) So, I went back to stock for a 2000+ mile trip to Wisconsin last week. I don't like the stock sound when I start the bike, but appreciate it on the highway. I listened to a number of mufflers on RSV's and RSTD at STAR Days last week (also Bubs). Nothing I had to have. So, I will just settle down and stay stock on the "tour" bike. Hey, keep your stock mufflers, so if you want to do a long trip you can throw them back on,,, in 20 minutes. But I do really like the Baron's on my RSTD "every day" bike. Mike G
  23. The same unit (refurb'ed) is $59.95, free ship, on Amazon. So, $39.95 (+$4.95 ship) is a good price. Mike G in SC
  24. I have to use two keys on my RSTD because the ignition was replaced under warranty. I like the dealer and didn't fight to have it re-keyed. So, obviously the ignition was swapped, if not more. One key should fit all locks and the ignition. (On RSV: ignition, gas cap, 3 bags, 2 helmet locks) Mike G in SC
  25. Steve, That's right, the hose from the tank to the filter is long enough to pull it under the tank and around to the carb input. I did get a few inches of extra hose when I added the in-line gas filter. Tank + 4" of line to the new in-line $3 filter (Walmart), then the original tank hose from the other end of the inline filter to the carb input. (so, include two small band clamps for the filter.) Ran for days, even interstate speeds. But again, think about the excess fuel in the disconnected filter and pump. That's why I pulled the left side cover and disconnected the pump,,, just incase it worked enough to spit it out. And,,, turn off/on the pitcock as needed. Mike G.
