  1. Wow, that sounds like fun. Thanks for the heads up!!! Demo a Spyder on the Parkway!! Lot's of bike stuff to do, in the best area to ride. For the STAR members, just posted same on that site. Mike G in SC
  2. Johnny N., Buy a used Venture for journeys,,, and then maybe you can keep the Honda too for your daily commute. That's kind what I did. We enjoy 2 up on the Venture and I ride my RSTD daily to work and solo. And 80 sustained is quite comfortable on a good interstate. Mike G in SC
  3. Shell comercial - vintage race cars,,, sounding off. If you have gone beyond stock pipes,,, you will really like this. Crank up your volume. Mike G in SC Oops, didn't get the attachemnt to post, so click the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=1_kwxzU4wL4&vq=medium
  4. Do the Stebil, and get the adapter and harness sold on this site. I've done it both ways, home made with notes,,, and from "stuff" sold here (Carbonone). It's just short of plug & play with the "stuff",, and looks like is belongs. (Don't spend the money to get the chrome horn,,, it's not.) And WOW,,, do they hear you! Mike G in SC
  5. On my RSTD last year, mine was failing miserably at interstate speeds. A few days before I was going to take it to the shop, I cut the tassels so they only covered the levers. NEVER had another issue, can engage 4th & 5th just fine. I had fought that for months. (I had suspected the tassel problem, tried holding my hands on the levers while engaged and it was still failing. So, I convinced my self it was mechanical,,,, till I cut the tassels off. I like the levers covered with leather, so on next bike put covers only.) I did get a kick the first time I used my cruise on my RSV,,, after being used to the RSTD. That same switch turns on the FLASHERS on the RSV! Mike G in SC
  6. The V&H Monster Ovals do sound great. Anyone know what model# fits the RSV? Would they be for a RK and need the adapters too? ,,,, sound great. Oh, but on the V&H, looking like closer to $800. (Edit: Actually if I look down on the Youtube post, the owner answered the same questions: "They are on right now for $662 part #1801-(should be #1801-311) fits 95-08 HD FLT/FLHT/FLHX" I see same model (#?) on Amazon.com for $603 today. So, looks like they do need the RK adapters. Mike G in SC
  7. My Two-Up is a 2009 RSV, my daily commute (little bike) is my 2006 RSTD.
  8. I also got the Wal-Mart ones (might have been Green Slime) a few years back. I posted, don't remember if it was this forum or another,,, but most people blasted the idea. And valid skepticism,,, You are relying on a pretty cheap plastic valve cap that keeps your valve stem open. Pretty easy for it to break and let your tire empty in a few seconds. What I did notice is that they were pretty uneven between caps. I prefer kicking tires, if it hurts, the tire is full. Just saying,,,,,,,,
  9. Same, 2006 RSTD (but more like @ 50k miles). Mine started groaning. After the dealer replaced the rear tire he said he saw a slight leak on the shock and had placed the order, warranty. I didn't have to ask him, he just took care of it. (PS: that good dealer is Extreme Sports Yamaha in Sumter, SC) If it is the shock,,, YOU WANT TO REPLACE IT UNDER WARRANTY$$$$$ Mike G in SC
  10. I've got a great "BOSS" 3 pocket windshield bag on my RSTD, love it. But I would like to know, what 3 pocket bag members are using on their RSVs? Web links would be good for pics and price. I have a wide F4 windshield without a vent. But I would say anything that fits stock will fit the same. Thanks, Mike G in SC
  11. Did you see, when in the winner circle, he dipped down for a second to remove his retainer. The announcers missed it. Braces, turned 20 yesterday and won the 500 cause he knew what he was doing. Nice kid. Wish him luck.
  12. Wally, Deer skin, unlined,, look into Lee Parks. http://www.leeparksdesign.com/catalog_items.asp?pagenum=1&uTotalRecords=&uLimitPartName=&uLimitPartNumber=&cat=530-3637&imgview=y I have bought them at the IMS. The "tour" size is about $85. THEY ARE GREAT. They have tour length and gauntlet. They also carry "outseam" stitch. I also stopped by Fox Creek Leather in Independence, VA. They stock them and were a few bucks (no pun) cheaper. http://www.foxcreekleather.com/67-lee-parks-motorcycle-gloves/127-deertours-motorcycle-gloves I have the tan color and black (one for each bike). Or I can mix & match so I know left from right!!!! I like the tan but they do tend to get stained. The black probably won't. Anyhow, really good gloves for everything but winter. Mike G in SC
  13. So far, this week,,,, Sunday to Beaufort SC (Chocolate Tree) , Monday to work, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thrusday,,, and today too, Friday. Oh, and tomorrow riding to the Beacon in Spartanburg. I call this a good week, especially for February.
  14. Now, something to class up this website a notch! THIS IS TRULY A BEER BOTTLE BAND--IT WILL SURPRISE YOU. Ya gotta hear this beer bottle band!!! [ame= ] [/ame] Mike G in SC
  15. I have Wanderer's "old Venture". He had a Khumo CT on the rear and he LOVED it. I put 1000 quick miles on it then changed out to a Venom before a big road trip. I could knit-pick,,, but I like bike tires. Can't publish what Wanderer said when I told him. LOL TED,,, Spring is coming. I will still gladly lend you the bike for a weekend if you come this way. Let me know. So,,, bike tire for me. Mike G in SC
  16. CITIZEN COMPLAINS ABOUT A RIDICULOUS SPEED SIGN IN NORTH GEORGIA. [ame= ] [/ame]
  17. Peach Enchilada,,,, A local delicacy from McLeod's Farm,,,, near McBee, SC. It's a pastry crust with peaches and,, if you read the recipe,, even has Mountain Dew! And done right, has vanilla ice cream on it. This is a working family peach farm (& strawberries and blackberries in season). An awesome bike stop for desert. http://www.macspride.com/ Hey, may have seen you guys out on the road today, we did Hwy 97 up to Wagon Wheel in Ft.Lawn. (Cajun joined us on his Heritage.) Waved at a lot of bikes, think there may have been a poker run on that route. Mike G in SC
  18. I think someone mentioned them a couple of months back. I went to their site to get pricing on saddle bag rails,,,, really good. I printed the page then showed it to my local dealer. He normally will match a Yamaha dealer price,,, he did. So, even if they are not convenient, your dealer "may" meet his price. (So, may want to put that dealer in your favorite bucket.) Mike G.
  19. I just own a couple of Royals. But in my STAR club, The VA director, Rick Davis, is a motorcycle cop and stands about 6'7". He rides a Venture for two up, a BMW on the job and a FJR for the mountains. Get him talking about his FJR rides and you're going to be talking a while. I entertained the FJR thought once till I sat on it. Not wearing 3" heals for no one. Mike G
  20. The fuel pump on my RSTD was replaced under the 5 year warranty. Do it before it runs out.
  21. I'm seeing two things replacing chaps lately. For me an several in my riding club we got ski pants. These are about $40 and have zippers for boots. Get the right ones and they have inner-calf patches (nylon noise reducing pannels) which, by the way, will protect from muffler burns. AND,,,,, keeps the all important crotch zone warm too!!!!! They pack down to a roll about 4" in diameter and weight zilch. No, they don't have the protection of good leather,,,, win some, loose some. Another bunch I ride with went to Wal-mart or Tractor Supply and got Carhart (or look alike) fleece insulated coveralls for about $60. Kind of looks like the Deliverance Bikers (wheeee),, but they are toasty!! They have leg zippers too. More 60 year old bikers die of heart attacks putting on chaps than having sex. That statistic is for men, I don't think women have to report that. Pretty sure about that! Mike G in SC
  22. I'm sure his Mom is proud (?) Nice of him to call, give her something to think about NEXT time he calls her like that.
  23. On replacing that glass fuse holder,,,,,, Soon after my passing lamps were installed, they poped the fuse. My shop took care of it, no charge as they did the install just a week or so before. What he did was run a blade fuse (car type) and put it near the headlight adjust knob so I can get to it without getting into the fairing. It's not real visible but it can be replaced in seconds with no tools. Real nice. Mike G in SC PS: I should get my F4 in the next day or so, can't wait. (Got the 17.5 clear,,, wide)
  24. Haven't delt with Pinwall but it is nice to chase used parts when you want. (they do have over 99% approval) But most of the time I go on Ebay and key in "Yamaha Royal Star" I get 4700+ hits, at least HALF are Pinwall. For those times you don't want to wade through Pinwall's stuff you can get specific on the Ebay "advanced filter" to omit them: On the left of the Ebay page scroll down to "Show Only", click on "Choose more". Then click on "Advanced Search". Then scroll down to "Sellers", check box "only items from", drop down box to "Exclude", then key in the exact vendor name you want to omit. And set your "results per page " at 200 while you're at it. (this is old news for most, a relief if you didn't know how to omit them). If you omit Pinwall_Cycle_Parts you will drop to about 2500 parts (today). Now just a half of a ton of stuff. Mike G
  25. Took 22 friends (17 bikes) on a back road ride in mid-SC. We went to a country restaurant, the Wagon Wheel, in Fort Lawn for some great food. Then another set of back roads to a Sonic to end it. Yep, that's what I did. Mike G in SC
