  1. Actually, I find that, with the trailer attached, you are more stable in a parking lot. Kind of like a light hand on the back keeping you steady. Like going down a stars,, just a light touch on the hand rail helps keep your balance. But, yeah backing is like doing math while someone tickles your feet. Goes wrong way fast. More than once I have got off the bike and PULLED the trailer sideways to get it straight.
  2. 2 to 3 weeks? I might suggest you have plenty of time to think about a Harbor Freight trailer. Then you can even bring beach chairs,,, heck, maybe a Lazy Boy. I pull a trailer. Wife can fill it quick. But also, I bought a Revco 11x16 cooler rack for my RSV. I had to fab a new set of tail lights cause the tour bag hides the bike lights. But because my bike is lowered it puts too much weigh on the rear. I can actually carry more on my RSTD than my RSV. The RSV trunk is good but limited. Then when you put a tour bag on the luggage rack, you have that much more weight above your center of gravity. That's why a small trailer takes care of it all.
  3. I replaced my chaps with ski pants. Very light weight, packs easy. Keeps it all warm. Wind chill is not a factor anymore.
  4. I have magnets strapped under both of my bikes. Rarely have a problem. If you can't find strong ones specifically for a motorcycle, go to Tractor Supply. Get "Cow Magnets" in the medical section,,, yeah "Cow Magnets". $8.95 for 3. SC did the two minute rule a year or so back. Never had to wait, Got Magnets.
  5. Allen, I shared this post with our chapter at our meeting last night. I got the biggest laugh of the night when I quoted your statement above. THANKS, Mike G
  6. The horn can take it. (Talking Stebel) But depending on the mount bracket you use, the two connectors at the bottom may have to be bent inward, say 45 degrees to have them not touch the pipes. I found that with my RSTD when I used cheapo brackets from Lowe's. On my RSV, I got the stainless bracket from Carbon one (and his harness) and I did not have the same problem. But,, if the connectors touch the pipes, they can be bent in a bit. The relay can neatly fit inside the right side cover.
  7. As noted, what you describe was not typical STAR club ride. While we may not quite resemble Shriners in a parade, most STAR chapters ride very organized with safety as much of a concern as enjoying the ride it's self. If you are still interested, please do look at another chapter.
  8. Jose, In STAR chapters, only the president has to own a Yamaha (so I got two just in case! LOL). In our chapter, I'd say we are about half Yamaha,,,, half Harley,,, half Kawasaki,,, half Honda, and even a Victory or two. It's a good mix. You'll probably make some very good friends. And it won't be in any competition with your Venture Rider affiliation. Mike G
  9. I might be biased,,, I'm president of the Columbia, SC chapter. I've been with STAR about 5 years. I enjoy the bike friends I have made. Most chapters are open and invitiing. When you get there, make your presence known to the chapter president before the meeting. (Tell them Mike G in SC sent you. They're sure to say,,, huh?) Likely you will fit right in. But if you don't "feel the love", try another chapter. (One of my members moved to another state. He did first try a chapter that didn't seem to throw out the welcome mat. He tried another and found "family" first meeting.) We meet monthly and have a "sanctioned ride" the following Saturday. But, we may ride several weekends any given month. Some chapters are a bit more by the book, mine is pretty casual. (I've just been pres for a year, previous guy made it casual,, we like it.) In the last year, STAR national has made an effort to be open and available. That area and the $48 a year seemed to be the beef (negative) with some folks. They are involved with a few charities but not pushy. To me, their best charity is the STAR Family Foundation,, which has a purpose to help members (15 mos or more) with hardships. I've enjoyed STAR. You can PM me or email me ( mikeginsc@bellsouth.net) if you have questions. And,,,, thanks for asking. There are several STAR members here. Mike G in SC
  10. That's not lane splitting when you are on the wrong F'n side of the road! In my car, I have a bad habit of blocking off aggressive drivers,, oops.
  11. Speedbleeder offers 30 sizes,,,, what size do you use on the RSV? I will order for 2 bikes,,, RSV and RSTD. Thanks, Mike G in SC

  14. I see I got an email Friday for 15% off on Baron's or LA Choppers stuff, good through today only, 10/2/11. The promo code is "secret15". Pretty sure that's not a secret,, just for me. STAR Touring members also get free ship,, I think (may have to call the 800# on that). Just google for Baron's motorcycle or LA Choppers. Mike G
  15. Jim, Heal up! Might put some Startron in the tank,,, if you didn't already. Might rub some on your shoulder also,,,,,not. Mike G in SC
  16. Gerald Cable, 1Rooster,,,, YOU ARE INDEED A PATIENT MAN !!! It's been 10 months since you asked the question the first time and you simply asked again!!! WOW (no next day's blues for you!) I have one of each out in the carport, I'll go out and swap them and tell you what I get. Be right back,,,,,,, ,,, oh, I see someone else answered,, what they said! Mike G in SC
  17. Wash your hands, they have germs!
  18. They got rid of the Lame Flame,,, good move.
  19. Wow, and it's a "stealth",, and we could see it!! kidding. That is too impressive! Back in the day,1970, I was stationed in KS and got to see a SR71, up close, come and go,, and we didn't even know we had such a bird. Pilot was greatfull for repairs and put on quite a show on his departure. Double afterburners, disappeared at a 80 degree angle in a clear blue sky! My grandson is a F22 crewchief at Langley, same place I was stationed in '73. Yep, you must be proud. Semper Fly! Mike G in SC
  20. On the chrome choke knob,,, I put one on my Road Star years back. Due to it's size and mount method, it was actually keeping my choke partially on, even when all the way in. I think it is easy to remove (just a thumb nut). I might take that thing off for now as you are troubleshooting. Mike G in SC
  21. Istakoza, That's what I posted weeks ago on this link (and last year too). My daughter has a similar service, http://boxvoyage.com/ People can contact the one you suggest or Box Voyage, questions are free. Mike G in SC Earlier post: I mentioned this last year, but it glossed over. My daughter runs a small "package forwarding business" called "Box Voyage". http://boxvoyage.com/ She picked up the business two years ago from my son who had lived in Sidney. Yes it is a business so there are fees, but the idea is that you purchase your on-line item and have it shipped to her in the US (St. Mary's GA). Then they reship (repack or consolidate shipments if needed) to your non-USA address. The basic premise is $13 fee for a single package plus actual shipping costs. You pay her through PayPal before she ships the package. I think they (her and her sister-in-law) also do shopping for people but that's beyond me. Anyhow, this is a possible answer for you who cannot get a US company to ship direct to you or want to really jack up S&H costs beyond reason. Go to the website above and check it out, contact info is on the front page. I can put this in the classifieds if someone wants? If you have questions you can PM me and I will ask for you. 22. I picked up a screw in my rear tire (original Michelin Commander). I really like that tire, lots of miles left, can't find this tire anymore. I have plugged a roofing nail before on another tire, no problems. But this was a fair sized screw, dead center of tread, straight in. Tire is not torn but I don't trust a plug to keep air. Simple question,, is it safe to put a tube in the rear tire? (2006 RSTD stock size)
  23. RE: Pinwall,,, I bought the part Saturday or Sunday night. It was on my doorstep Wednesday PM. Packaged good, part looks good, included bolts. I'm impressed. Mike G
  24. The Yamaha OEM (really Mitzibushi) is about $300. (But you can buy a generic for $50, needs some modifications.) Like RSTD dog said, you can gravity feed with a minimum of tools, and maybe a flashlight, if it dies on the road. It may fail but,,,, may not,,,. Yes the one on my RSTD did,,, about 50k. But, as you can limp home on gravity-feed, probably an overkill to replace a good one, unless it is suspect. (if you do, send it to me, I'll pay shipping!) Search back on old posts on "gravity". I know I've posted "how-to" a couple of times. Mike G in SC
  25. ZZZZZZ,,,, hey, I just woke up,,, is it Y2K yet,,, did I miss anything,,, Nope,,, everything is same-same. Hey, but back to my favorite two colors,,,, Black and Chrome!!! Dropped the stupid flame decal. As much as I would like to see them do upgrades, any 2012 is better than none. Means they added another year of support system for the 1999-2011, and aftermarket parts may hold on longer. I'm okay but,,,,,,I wasn't looking to buy this year. Mike G
