We visited the family farm in Wheaton, MO last when I was about 10. (circa 1960) Yeah, I got to watch my next older brother (my tormentor in those days) grab the electric fence. I thought it was hilarious, laughed my butt off,,,, he didn't. I think he too peed his pants. But, hehe, he also could not find the strength to get me back. I savored that one. Mike G -
This is the one we use on my RSTD, on the luggage rack behind the sissybar: The Kuryakyn Ultra Tour Bag $150. Lots of room, lots of ways to open it. Hangs on tight with it's own straps, no bungies needed. Looks good too. I use it on most trips but also take if if we are going to do some shopping. With this on my RSTD and the side bags, I actually have more versitility than my RSV. http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/696/Ultra-Tour-Bag http://www.kuryakyn.com/images/item/Large/4148-3.jpg Part Number: 4148

My next go-round on my RSTD will probably be: Front - Avon Venom (stock size) - best grip ok on miles Rear - Dunlop E3 - good grip, best on miles And, that might put me a little closer to changing at the same time. But for $600 for a pair of Dunlop 404,,, he didn't do you any favors.

Make sure you start it when it is COLD, like not started in a day or more. I had a 2001, good bike, still in the family. But it got on the sticky valve side (a big nag for that bike) and it was hard to start and keep running in winter. My son-in-law still has it (never rides it). But this time of year has to maintain choke to keep it running. Probably needs a valve job. Anyhow, make sure it can get off choke in a few minutes. But fun bike, I put 50k miles+ on mine. Mike G

Buddy, I bounce a whole lot more than I used to,,,,, That is why I stay on the street!!! (Hey, just put your knee blockers back on both Royals,,,, thanks again. I started out on a day ride Sunday,50F, did a U-turn and put them on,, much better.) Mike G -
Currently I have Norton Intenet Security on home and work machines. It's good at home, where I have a pretty stout 3 year old XP machine. But Norton is a serious resource hog. My old machine at work is constantly trying to run Norton in the back ground, and booting is a 4 minute thing. Poor thing is bogged. I purchased Kaspersky for my work machine, will install next week. I'm told it is has a minimum footprint on resources. We'll see. On the purchased software, I look for deals on BUY.COM. & Amazon. I got a 3 user pack on "Kaspersky Pure Total Security" for $33 delivered last week. I see smilar or cheaper on those sites on & off,, you go to look for best price out there. Today, I see Norton Intenet Security 3 pk for $30.99 on BUY.COM. Also, I use IOBIT products Advanced System Care 5 (free & pro) and IOBIT Malware fighter (free & pro). Good complementary products to a main AV suite.

Raised in the South. It's Coke and Kryspy Kremes and Sweetea. My wife is from up North, when she would ask for Pop, I would tell her "bless his heart, he passed". Coke here can be Coke, Pepsi, Dr Pepper, and maybe even Sprite. When we go towards Kalamazoo to see her friends, you can tell when you hit the Mason/Dixon line by asking for Sweetea. You are told "NO but you can put sugar in it." as an auto-response. (But if you notice, like Kudzu & fireants,,, it's a creeping north and west.) Oh, but when they tell my wife, "no Coke but we got Pepsi", she asks for Dr Pepper. Mike G in SC PS: and I agree,, Rum and Pepsi or Jack and Pepsi,,,,,,. My response is "what did you do to this?" -
I'm curious,,, does the owners manual say not to turn it upside down while it is running? American Way??? Probably not. May be assembled in US but Sears has really forced their OEMs (Husquavarna & others) to go to China for cheap azz parts. All the big stores have to price compete,,, that means "off shore".

My Father took a bad fall
Mike G in SC replied to Flyinfool's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Sounds like a sense of humor is important to your family, and maybe a best medicine. So, that part about him not knowing who the president was might be a good thing! Tell him Regan has been re-elected! Prayers and good wishes, Mike G in SC -
Steve, Hey, the bike you describe looks just like your bike avatar. I have to ask,,, You sure that wasn't you, riding past a store front mirror? Did he wave back at the same time? The reason I ask is this old joke: I pointed to two old drunks sitting across the bar from us and told my friend "That's us in 10 years". He said "That's a mirror, dummy!"

I went to STAR Days in Wisconsin last July, on my RSV. A week later, I got a letter from the IL Toll Dept issuing me 3 tickets for my CAR skipping booths. Go Figure. Oh, forgot,,, my wife did drive across IL to meet me,,,, IN MY CAR! (IL toll booths use an I-Pass. If you don't know how that works, you will probably get several photo tickets passing through the state. Toll booths look like exits,,, NO HONEY, you don't pay at the end like you do in Indiana. The IL scam is old fashion,,,,simple deception. Ignorance of the law is 9/10's of their income. They let you "go to court" via snail-mail. Just send the money, you won't beat it.)

Randy, Might check your Amazon PIAA price for other listings. I see more like $50.92 free ship: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/15224-Style-Xtreme-White-100-Watt/dp/B00067BVDC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1323100845&sr=8-2]Amazon.com: PIAA 15224 H4 Style Xtreme White 12V 60/55=110/100-Watt Bulb - Twin Pack: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31R31SKRT9L.@@AMEPARAM@@31R31SKRT9L[/ame] I just went to Amzon and put "PIAA H4" in my search. Gave several bulbs and prices. Other, Jason, my experience with the Silverstars was they were short lived on the HI beam. I use my HI beam ALOT during the day to be seen. I'm going to say my experience was with the SS Ultra but I didn't keep the dead soldiers to go back and look. If Auto Zone was selling SS Ultra's 3 years ago, then that's probably what they were. They were about $24 each. Never saw the LO beam burn out. Mike G

Peter, Jim is probably right, trial/error. (You're welcome, Jim) I was running mid to low 40's but was reading threads with higher. But you might browse the "Dark Side" tech forum on this site for info. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=106 Mike G

Check out the PIA H4. It's white and bright like the Silverstar Ultra. But, seem to give me more life than the Silverstar's I went through. (I usually buy the 2-pack off Amazon. Got 2 bikes.) Looking just now, I see PIA has a new series, Night Tech, for about the same pair price. Claims they have longer life too. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/PIAA-10704-Night-Tech-Upgrade/dp/B00544ZD86/ref=sr_1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1323039292&sr=1-4]Amazon.com: PIAA 10704 Night Tech 60/55 Watt H4 Upgrade Bulb - Pair: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51m8E7gb6eL.@@AMEPARAM@@51m8E7gb6eL[/ame] I'll order a pair next time I put in my last extra bulb. (Always keep a spare, even if it's the old stock bulb.) Mike G

My wife is big on Kindle, for several years now. She reads on the back of our RSV rather than stare at my helmet. I can usually tell from the jab in the back,,, used to be paperbacks. She has also given them to her daughters, grandkids and her sister. Not sure how all it works but you can add user names to your account. I think they can grab books you have paid for. Classics like Moby Dick are free. You can also extend the account to PC's and such. As for reading on the bike,,, please restrict to passenger. It usually puts me to sleep. Mike G

In the last 7 or 8 years I have owned a Road Star, RSTD, Stratoliner and a RSV (in that order). I still have the RSV and the RSTD. I use the RSV for my two up rides,,, and if I do a 2000 mile'r interstate run. But for my daily commute and any solo fun I LOVE the RSTD. I got the RSTD when I still had the Road Star, kept it through the Strat and have no plans to get rid of it (now about 85k miles). Some say RSV and RSTD are "same bike". But to me they really ride different. They are geared the same, yep. But I call the RSTD the "little" bike. Just seems to handle more like a cruiser than a tourer. More nimble when you are starting or stopping (foot down stuff) and better on twisty roads than the RSV. No top heavy stuff. I hope they come back out with a RSTD again in a few years so I can continue the ride. Oh,,, so if it's not obvious,,, I suggest a RSTD too. Mike G

Air Bhag question, obviously not bike related

As you are from Georgia,,, Get it up to about 35 MPH,,, hit something stationary. I promise the airbag indicator will go off. (I used to live near Atlanta. If filled up,, family moved to SC.) Just funning, Mike G -
A Google search said that Tractor Supply carries Farnam's Leather New. You convinced me,,, headed there soon. Thanks, been looking for something like that. Mike G

Before I put my glasses on,,, I thought you were from Georgia and had just run down a red clay driveway after a rain. I see that on my daughter's car all the time. Looks much better with glasses! Looks good.

Thinking back a few years, similar but different : Chevy Chase: Here with an editorial reply is Miss Emily Lattella. Emily Lattella: What's all this fuss I keep hearing about violins on television? Why don't parents want their kids to see violins on television? I thought the Leonardo Bernstein concerts were just lovely, now, if they only show violins on television after ten o'clock at night, the little babies will all be asleep and they won't learn any music appreciation. They'll learn to play guitars, and bongo drums and go to Africa and join these rock'n roll outfits and they won't drink milk! I think there should be more violins on television and less game shows, it's terrible the way... Chevy Chase: Um, Littella, that's Violence on television. Not violins. Emily Lattella: Oh, well that's diffrent. Never mind!

No spark....All cylinders
Mike G in SC replied to ed280's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not that part, but for a couple of years I was going through stator & regulator/rectifier like oil changes. My old Road Star went through the original plus 2. My next bike, RSTD lost the original,, at least that was warranty $$. I started thinking my carport was over an Indian Burial Ground??? And I did find out after a utility survey that my house power did run directly under the carport,,, directly in-line with how I park my bike !!! It had me thinking the magnets were being nutered or something??!! Well, still parking the bike (now 2) in the same place,,, no problems in a few years now. Either the spirits or the amps have been overwhelmed by two big Royals,, or ???? SO,,, try another pickup and yeah, watch where you park it. (I used Pinwall this summer. I give them a 10 for my experiences.) Mike G
