  1. You have about covered it all. Seats, fairing, Trunk, stereo, intercom, cb. Some say the gearing in the td trans is a little different. Yamaha says 4th and 5th are overdrive on the td. someone here will chime in with the correct info. the back fender is different. We put venture pillow tops on our td. also added a harley trunk and fairing. I think that is the only real differences. We have a pearl white 06 td for sale. (It is completely stock, moved the fairing/seats and trunk to the replacement) Liked the td enough we bought another one.
  2. When it dies - Take the left side cover off and tap on the fuel pump and see if it springs back to life. We went that way for about 5000 miles while carrying a spare in the saddle bag.
  3. Under the tank on the right hand side. There is a rubber hose connecting two metal tubes. It seeps out and drips to about the same spot as the freeze plugs - Just had to tighten the clamp on the hose. Had te freeze plug leak as well before the clamp leak - Local dealer ordered the freeze plugs and had them in 2 days for about $2 each if I remember right. On the freeze plugs- Just push them in with your finger - don't need to drive with a tool or anything. Also, there is a rubber hose insert at the bottom of the radiator that will eventually need tightened up.
  4. did ours for about $1000 +/- 06 Street glide fairing customized to swap for the speedo being low and move the radio up Ultra trunk Venture seats
  5. normal mileage about 40-42 mpg Light starts flashing between 145 and 158 miles. usually takes 3.8 to 4 gal. Have pushed it out to 200 miles before and only took around 5 gallons. We always start looking for gas when it starts flashing and start getting nervous around 180 miles.
  6. Owners manual specifically says not to tow the RSV/TD
  7. mirrors are changed. chrome piece around the fuel cap is stock (at least for an 06 - not sure about 05) definitely changed floor boards. backrest is stock with the added luggage rack. Don't know about any emissions but, V7goose may have some comments on that
  8. Have gone as far as 20 and as little as 9 before having to switch to reserve. after reserve, have gone 30 miles and put in 4.5 gallons. typically get 39mpg in this cold weather and 40-42 in warmer weather.
  9. Never tried the corbin so, ignore this if you want. The mustang passenger seat is pretty wide with some padding - My wife liked it but still our first stop would be at about 150 miles, next at about 100, next about 85, next about 60. We put a RSV pillow top on and she loves it, I couldn't pry this pillow top out from under her if I wanted to. (I am pretty happy too). I am 5'11" and 240lbs - she is considerably smaller than me - but not tiny. She now rides fuel stop to fuel stop 150 - 180 miles all the time. I know it's not what you asked but, she wanted softer not harder. (Our other past-time is riding horses and she loves her saddle but she did not want it on the bike - I think largely because she moves around more and we don't ride as long on the horses). But, Corbin may be great.
  10. that mount on the floor boards - They rotate as well and will allow you to put them pretty far forward. The only issue is with the short offsets the pegs ride way out there and lower your lean angle. We drag the pegs all the time because of the short offsets. Longer offsets and they should be great - even for longer legged people.
  11. the same shape as the harley fairing. We have a streetglide fairing and it does have some effect after about 95mph. At around 100 it will start dancing a little. I believe the angle of the fairing and the size of the shield has an impact. I think it is being caused by slight wind differences pushing one side or the other as you move through the air. I almost never run over 100 so, it doesn't bother me - Below 95, don't notice any difference from the TD windshield. I know you asked specifically about the 2 brands but, I think they are very close to the same shape.
  12. We used to live in Ft. Smith (Rudy actually) and Russellville. Gets cold - especially at night but, night before last was 14 degrees here and last night was 28 so it was about like being back home. Yah, taping them on and checking it out is a good way to make sure you got them in the right places. hmmm - "beside the grill" - you putting them on that front inside lip by the radiator or on the back side (I am just thinking about where to stick a couple more)
  13. The Wizards are separate wires where, I think the lizards can go in line. We decided against the lizards because it looked like there were more connections that might corrode. We have one under each side of the tank, one under each saddle bag, one under the triple tree and one under the trunk. The tank lights are great The triple tree is pretty good but, not enough chrome up there to reflect off of. The trunk is pretty good but, right now it is mounted right under the trunk and pointing toward the rear. Have been thinking about putting it on the back and pointing it forward so will reflect off of more surfaces. (Our trunk is different than the venture and we have a polished aluminum skirt around the bottom so, can put the light on it still hidden under the trunk and inside the skirt - if that makes sense. not sure where it would fit on the venture - probably behind the led light bar if you have one.) The ones on the bags do pretty good and get decent reflection with chrome pipes. Ours point down, you might want to play with pointing them in (towards the pipe or the other side - might get better reflection). One quick note - Find a clip of some sort and mount them to the bag support brackets - not the bags. (My shop is usually really good to not mess with much but, the mech must've been in a bad mood one tire change and decided he would cut the wires instead of just laying the bags to the side. (the shop replaced them).) The multi color lights don't seem to be quite as intense or bright as the single color but, we can change colors at the push of a button. Really like the Blue but, the cops aren't so big on them going down the road. so, usually run either white or purple. Intinsity - brightest color to least bright (just a guess (Blue, Red, Purple, White, Yellow, Green, light blue))
  14. Mustang with driver backrest, passenger seat and passenger backrest pad also have all 3 stock pieces PM me if interested
  15. WHY? - for me it was several reasons Maybe we don't want a Harley but don't like the looks of the venture fairing (If you want a spaceship - just go buy it). Maybe we could just pull the nice smooth v4 out of this and put it in a harley frame - that would be ok. Lots more accessories. leave the muffs off and we would be good to go. damn - that'd be expensive Maybe we like doing our own customizing and building exactly what we want (which is NOT a harley) within the confines of our budget. By the way - I have a Harley trunk too - that probably really gets you cranky but, I couldn't find a venture trunk, rack, backrest and all the pieces for anywhere near the price. you will NEVER see another bike that looks like mine (and by the way - the head Yamaha mechanic at the shop thought my fairing and trunk were factory and Yamaha had put out a model at sometime that he wasn't aware of.) The only thing I am kind of wishing for(that the venture has) is intercoms but - not a big deal. my comments are really just in fun but, are you serious or a
  16. or not but, I bet he is. He didn't want to do our fork legs - called yamaha cust service directly (800) 962-7926 and after a little fussing at them and being considerate and direct, they did replace them. FYI - They are putting rear valve cover gaskets on it now. Dealer told me any oil leak on these bikes is covered under warranty - which I had never seen on here. This dealer here has been really good to work with.
  17. I was really agreeing with the guys's thought in his safety article (Riding side by side=bad idea, 1/2 or 3/4 helmet=bad idea(but probably necessary on duty), and a few other things like that.) but, I agree - we all are trying to get from point a to point b safely
  18. http://www.msgroup.org/default.aspx in the safety tips section (I hope Don doesn't mind me linking to the other site.) there is an article about laying it down to avoid a crash somewhere in there. ad, there is another one about realizing that motorcops aren't necessarily the best example - they have a different set of issues than we do. I tend to agree with this guy - better to spend all the precious seconds you have with the rubber helping to slow you down. If you're going to hit the object anyway - it would be nice to be going as SLOW as possible. Laying it down doesn't slow it down nearly as well as the tires do. I have a couple of opinions about the whole lay it down and separate yourself from it thing. 1. If you have time to do that - you probably have time for avoidance. 2. If you don't have time - you just gave up any control you had to slow down more. just my thoughts (an apparently this guy's as well). I read and re-read these tips frequently. This is the one I really like http://www.msgroup.org/Tip.aspx?Num=226&Set=
  19. Height of ours is about right in between. It's an older Ultra tour pack but close to the same size (I know its quite a bit bigger than an 82 wing trunk) With the pillowtop seats, the wife says it is just right. With the mustangs, she said it was a tad high. It could be lowered up to 2 inches by flipping the brackets over but, it fits her and has no negative effects on handling. The skirt around the bottom makes it look a little lower and covers a lot of the mounting brackets. Would be possible to make it quicker to detach by using thumb screws on the lower braces but that wasn't a concern for us as we wont ever take it off.
  20. For the front, there are a couple of small "L" brackets. look in the tech section - there is a drawing for them or jemorrisonjr has the drawing. Easy to install. (I think we got the last ones he had - pm jemorrisonjr to see if he has any more.) for the rear, you need the mounting bracket (Pinwall removes it and sells it separately.) I might be able to find the pick of it from ebay but, I think they list it as a venture seat bracket. you wont have a back bolt like the TD does now. replace the front td bracket with the Venture one(it's a direct swap with the three mounting bolts holding it to the fender) and put the two bolts in. We have done over a thousand miles since we put them on and they have been great. Went on the trail of tears - close to 400 miles in one day - went to the dragon and back - 400 miles in one day, went to Dahlonega and back about 300 miles in one day.
  21. Didn't take any pics of the work in progress but, can give some descriptions if you want. Looking good
  22. for it to be the same guy that almost did that with our Boulevard. I could tell he was nervous. He said he hadn't ridden in quite a while. I offered to ride it home or to a clear parking lot for him to get used to it. He refused and started the turn out of the drive and gassed it. fortunately, he missed the ditch and went in the driveway across the road The ditch is about 6feet deep on both sides of their driveway), through their yard, around the trees, under the bushes and back in front of the house before he killed it. I about died right there. Didn't know whether to laugh or try to hold him up. It's hilarious now but scary as all get out then,
