    85 Virago
  1. Being trained as a machinist this is just insane and I love it. I could watch the video a hundred times and marvel at it each and everytime.
  2. Well Annie my screen name stays, the Virago is my first love and like my one and only wife will be with me forever. (To much a Frankenstien now, labor of love). But the wife loves as do I the RSTD? MLC nice thing about Thanksgiving "LEFTOVERS". Ride and have fun. PS Next Year we need to deck the bikes out for the parade of lights. Might even bring my dad's Ural with the sidecar down so he can ride backwards with the X-Mas lights blinking. Everyone have a great Thanksgiving, I will post again, or is that ride again? Oh well at my age at least I have my good looks, talk'n the bike not me.
  3. Went out riding this weekend up here in Fargo ND, only 15 degrees outside with a 20 mph wind. I took the 05 RSTD and boy was it fun. I love the bike the wind coverage. I wanted to ride more but had work to do. So Thanksgiving will be the next time out. God did I say I love this bike.
  4. So now come the questions, first when I start out from a stop I hear a high pitched whine, something like a brake pad rubbing, but as I go I guess the noise of the engine drowns it out. Second, when I come a complete stop and place the bike in neutral to park it, when i let out the clutch I hear something like a grinding. Deep not high. So I love this new bike way to much to let any of this be a bummer, but I need some help. I can diagnose my Virago but still new to the RSTD. Any help will be great, PS does anyone know a Andy in Pine Valley CA, that used to have a 05 RSTD. The former owner has almost all the repair notes for the first 61k on this bike. Thanks again, Viragofan
  5. All right, finally on Aug 17, 2011 I got to show the new bike to the wife. Selling all the other bikes has been a challenge in patients but it has all paid off. She was elated, back in July about a month ago with the kids gone we decided to take my Virago out for a ride. My wife made it 10 mins and then we had to go home. Last night awesome, 82 degrees and we took a 40 mile run after a full supper for ofcourse Ice Cream. All she can do is smile and I smile with her. So now come the questions, first when I start out from a stop I hear a high pitched whine, something like a brake pad rubbing, but as I go I guess the noise of the engine drowns it out. 6. Ok so what is the depth of the passenger seat on a 05 RSTD? From the tip of the passenger seat to the backrest? Thanks. Viragofan
  7. Ok, you are right the Barron's if for the older RSTD's. I like the idea of the Dyna 3000, but how much work is the V-max rearend? Thanks
  8. Anyone have any experience with the Barron's Big Air kit. Just bought a 05 RSTD and would like to blow the doors off the neighbors HD's. Six neighbors, three have custom upgrade HD's. But nothing touches my RSTD. Any infor helps Viragofan.
  9. Thanks all for the help on this. Like I said came from Cali. not sure on things. Anyway, is there anything I need to do for the emission items. PS. Nice to hear good things especially for site unseen. One thing I will say is my Uncle in California lived 15 minutes from the Dealership. 50 Yr HD rider and he was impressed with the cleaniless, the chrome, the sound, but felt it lacked the punch. Little to old to inform, power comes at higher RPMs. but I still love him. Also this guy has built for Damions, Big Twin Magazine, West Coast Coppers, and many more. So for him to complement a Metric, I think this will be with me for some time. Again, any good deck builders out there, need to get it done so I can ride.
  10. Ok so I finally have the 05 RSTD delievered from Sunner Southern Callifornia. Of course the weekend it arrived the temp was only 10 degrees outside. So being new to this and bike in another town, long story as to why but it will be coming home with me soon. By photos can you wonderfully intelligent people help me to answer a few questions. First is that orginal exhaust. (you will need to go to my album to review the photos). Second other than the pin stiping and the highway pegs is there any other noticable add ons? Virago's are my passion for years. Only one issue, too small for the wife and i to ride comfortably. So on to the next question, bike is out of California, I bought it from the dealership so I am unable to talk to the orginal owner. What I want to know is, is there any power robbing annoying emissions systems that I can remove from the bike? She has 60k on her and from what my dad said, rattle the windows in the shop when it started after it was delivered. So any help would be great. Thanks all, PS I included a photo of my 85 Virago, highly customized. All I can say is the wife said sell my virago and sell her bike and buy a better bike. AKA RSTD. SO I sold all the other bikes but I am keeping the Virago as my 3 yr son loves to help me and why not have a bike to tinker with. JK
  11. Ok just bought a 2005 RSTD so what is the best money spent for a comm system. Needs to work with driver/passenger, driver to other driver and ability to connect to a cell phone for long rides. Willing to pay a finders fee, ok well maybe just send you chocolate chip cookies in the mail. No guarrenty that they will get to you.
  12. Wow, truly awesome. I love the fact that you just started doing, and the results and nothing less than spectacular. Inspiring. Would love to see it up close one day. Thanks for making the long winter worth the work and the wait.
  13. One of the great things with the side car is that you track in the normal car wheel tracks. My Dad has had one for 10 years, at first I hated it, yet it was all because we too much toe in on the side car so it would fight you hard in a right hand turn and nearly break your neck with the left hand turn. Truly the sidecar is a better deal IMHO, since you can remove the side car and still drive the bike as normal. Lastly, I just plain think they look way cooler and the passenger is very protected. Remember although you may find a cheap sidecar the brackets to hook one up is where the cost comes in. Your trailer if you like should be an easy sell on the forum. Good luck and enjoy
  14. Love It LOVE IT LOVE IT! God if I could only get my hands on one. Well the 05 RSTD will have to do for now. Just can't show the wife or she'll ask why the hell that isn't in our garage. Thanks for the eye candy. Stunning.
