  1. Went for a ride this evening seeing how it was/is going to be the few left this year before I depart somewhere southward. I noticed my leg getting warm and smelled something funny. low and behold anti freeze! temp gauge went sky high so I pulled over under some lights waited for it to cool down I pulled the radiator cap off and found white goop inside in the 25 years + or driving I never saw one like this. Is there special anti-freeze in this or what????? So I put in some 50/50 about half a gallon and rode home now to tear apart and flush. Can I run prestone super flush thru this bike???
  2. A number of my fellow PGR and Rolling Thunder riders are heading to DC on the 28th and come back the 31st. We will celebrate Memorial day and pay tribute to our fellow Vets. I've never been but I understand a few thousand bikes will be there. Hope Congress and the White House people are out of town; I wouldn't want to get s!!!! all over my bike; its a white one and it would really show. Hope everyone has a great Memorial weekend and don't forget to tell a vet "thanks".
  3. Article published May 15, 2010 Ottawa Hills policeman convicted of assault in shooting Motorcyclist was hit in back, paralyzed http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=TO&Date=20100515&Category=NEWS02&ArtNo=5150401&Ref=AR&MaxW=200 Thomas White was convicted of felonious assault in the shooting of motorcyclist Michael McCloskey, Jr., in a traffic stop. http://www.toledoblade.com/images/zoom_photo.gif Zoom | Photo Reprints By JENNIFER FEEHAN and CARL RYAN BLADE STAFF WRITERS A jury Friday night found an Ottawa Hills police officer guilty of felonious assault for shooting a motorcyclist in the back during a traffic stop. The Lucas County Common Pleas Court jury reached its decision six hours after beginning deliberations in the case of Thomas White, 27, who was indicted on one count of felonious assault with a firearms specification for the May 23, 2009, shooting of Michael McCloskey, Jr. Officer White, standing next to his attorney, Jerry Phillips, showed no emotion as the verdict was read. Mr. McCloskey, who testified earlier in the week, was not in court when Officer White was found guilty. The case went to the jury on the fifth day of the trial. A part-time police officer and dispatcher in Ottawa Hills, Officer White could be sentenced to 11 years in prison. Judge Gary Cook scheduled sentencing for 9 a.m. June 21. Officer White's supporters exited the courtroom while journalists covering the trial were held back. Mr. Phillips, caught as he stepped into the elevator, waved away questions. Mr. McCloskey, who was 24 at the time, was paralyzed from the waist down when he was shot once and the bullet struck his spine. He and Aaron Snyder were riding their motorcycles on Indian Road when Officer White began following them and ultimately pulled them over at Central Avenue for alleged traffic violations. Lucas County Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Lingo described the case as very difficult for him to handle as a former police officer and firearms instructor. "I would say there are no winners. I believe the jury made the right decision," he said. "As I stated during the trial, this was not an indictment of police officers or a department. The officer is not a bad person in that he set out to commit a crime. He used force well in excess of what needed to be used in a situation." Video taken by a dashboard camera about 2:15 a.m. showed Mr. McCloskey pull over his motorcycle and look back at the patrol car. When Mr. McCloskey again turns to look back, he is shot and he and the motorcycle fall over. The officer then appears on the screen and has his gun drawn while the victim is on the ground. After a period, the officer and another man lift the motorcycle off of the victim. Mr. Lingo said the video was the prosecution's strongest evidence. Officer White said on the stand that he believed Mr. McCloskey was reaching for a weapon and that his life was in danger when he fired the single shot. Mr. Lingo told the jury Mr. McCloskey was not fleeing and was not aggressive or threatening on the night in question, that even after he was shot, he politely asked Officer White, "Sir, I don't have a weapon. Will you please lift the bike off me?" "There is no evidence Mike McCloskey appeared angry, that he was agitated, that he did anything to arouse the suspicions of the police officer," Mr. Lingo said. He contended Officer White had no justification for shooting a man for a traffic violation. Mr. Phillips told jurors that it made no difference whether Mr. McCloskey had committed a traffic violation or a criminal violation, or whether he had a weapon. He said it made no difference whether Officer White's gunshot missed him, nicked him, or paralyzed him. "Michael McCloskey was shot because Officer White appropriately felt that either his life or the life of Officer [Christopher] Sargent was in danger at that moment," Mr. Phillips said, referring to another Ottawa Hills officer who responded to the scene. "It's a split-second decision and in his opinion, as a trained police officer, justified," he said. Mr. Phillips repeatedly reminded jurors that they could not consider what happened in the early morning hours of May 23, 2009 with the "20/20 vision of hindsight," but that they had to put themselves in the place of Officer White, considering only what he knew and saw and felt at that moment. Mr. Lingo told the jury Officer White rushed to judgment, moved too quickly, and did not give Mr. McCloskey time to comply with his command after he stopped his motorcycle. Mr. Lingo emphasized to the jury that the charge against Officer White should not be viewed as a blemish on law enforcement in general. "It is in fact a charge that resulted from the acts of a single police officer over a period of five minutes for which he acted alone and, the state feels, he should be held responsible," he said. 4. ...I had a retired feller offer me a 2006 VROD with 6500 miles on it as a straight trade for my 65 Comet, if I have the white parts painted blue... I'm still marinating on it...
  5. If you wanted the wide white sidewalls, what tires would you get? I'm really liking this retro thingy look and sound-goes back to the fifties (yes, I was there).

    Near hit

I may need to get my seat fixed, while riding two up with my daughter on a narrow country road we meet a white pick up truck coming in our direction driving very slow as if looking for an address or something and then from behind the truck a red truck came around a curve way to fast and could not stop for the white truck it took to the ditch on the right side of the white truck and passed it in the ditch came back in the road in front of the truck with it’s front wheels off the ground coming straight at us I took the ditch on my right avoiding the red truck a mail box and then the white truck. After my daughter was able to talk she said at one point she could have touched the red truck and the mail box at the same time. If we had been in four wheels we could not have got out of the way. Good thing is no one was hurt, bike got a couple of scraps.
  7. Finished the clutch today and it went well, but I noticed while cleaning up that below the clutches and to the right there is a gear in there that is white and looks to be plastic. Now I know I could have checked it with a magnet to see but didn,t think of it until I closed it all back up and torqued it. Any one know for sure or notice it also. Don,t think it is plastic but why would it be white.
  8. Ok, my gauges (Equus) all work. Finished the install, changed the oil and cranked her up. Oil pressure came right up, water temp took a few and finally came up to about 180 degrees. Volts, no problem. The tach is not working. The light works but the needle does nothing. So here's the poop. I need some suggestions. The Tach is a Nitrous 2". I wired it as follows: White: Night lamp...tapped into the driving lights. Orange: Wired to the positive battery terminal. Black: Chassis ground. Green: To the negetavie lead on the coil. I am pretty sure it's the negative. According to the repair manual, it's the gray/orange (top terminal). My terminals are as follows. Red is the lower and white is the upper. So I connected it to the white terminal. Red: Is supposed to go to the ignition switch accessory position. I just tapped into the lights again since they come on when the key is turned to the accessory position. This may have been my down fall. I am not sure where to tap into the ignition at. I am not sure if it makes a differance or not. The tach does have a 4-6-8 cylinder switch. I tried all of these positions. Tech support was nooooooo help. Any ideas? I am bummed and pissed. I put alot of work into the tach housing. It really looks sweet, but it would look sweeter if the tach worked! Randy
  9. I have a 1996 Royal Star that I just purchased and I need to replace the front tire. The bike is blue & white and currently has Dunlop D404 white wall tires, that really look good. I spoke to a local Yamaha dealer yesterday and they recommended the Elite 3, but that was mainly becuase I told them I did not care if it was a WW, I just wanted something that would have excellent traction in both dry/wet pavement. Have been reading reviews of tires on the internet and on this forum and now I am totally frustrated. I have pretty much decided that I want to replace it with a WW tire, so I will have to select from the Dunlop 404, Metzler Marathon 880 and Avon Venom.......so, I would like the opinions of those that have experience with any of these 3 tires. What do you think?

OMG! Ugly white stuff fell out of the sky this morning! Samples have been sent away to the U.S. for analysis. The city of Victoria is in chaos, there is panic in the streets. Send supplies now. Cases of Scotch, Brandy, Rum etc, oh yeah, I guess a loaf of bread wouldn't hurt. Send them all to me and I will dri...er...distribute them to the needy. Wait a minute, the sun is out, the white stuff is gone, all is OK, but send the supplies just in case.
  11. Well look what I found while planning a trip! Go to Google maps at 3240 U.S. 2, St. Ignace, MI, United States Click the little guy and drag him to see the road at that address. You will see a black pick-up on side of the road, click the arrow to go toward the pick-up and you will see a white Venture with a trailer come at you . Google got you!!! Anyone from here? You are a celebrity now! Bryan

  13. OK, bike was running a little rough. Decided to put new plugs in. Got the new plugs and put them in. Now bike is running alot smoother, but smokes very bad. It is white smoke, and gets worse when you hit the throttle. Idles fine, and holds a steady 1000 rpm at idle. Accelerates smooth and even. Just smokes very bad. Tried adjusting the carbs, did carb sync, and rechecked plugs. Not sure what the problem is. Ran seafoam, checked oil, all is well. After warming up, temp is in the normal range. No water in oil, no suit coming from exhaust. Just thick white smoke. Any help would be great. The weather is getting to nice to have a bike not in working order. Will be watching for a response.
  14. Last few days (and nights) have been sooooo hot Still 25c all night last night, and 42c during the day :scorched: Maybe some of that white stuff wouldn't be too bad
  15. First a question. In the pictures there are two plugs shown, a white one and a green one. the green one is from the clutch switch but i cant find where it goes, any ideas? The white one is a mystery...??? it has two black/white wires and a black/yellow and a blue/yellow wire. two of the pictures show a white plug that plugs into something on the middle of the rail. that relay is missing, what is it? the frame is from the 83 and dosent look the same as the 86 but the relays and harness is from the 86. all wiring from the 83 has been removed and replaced with an 86 harness. hand controls and all.
  16. WooooHooooo I acquired an off white whole hide of leather today and I would like to make a cover to keep my knees from rubbing the tank. Anyone have one off their bike that would be willing to make me a paper template and mail it to me? Thanks in advance. The white leather looks good on the bike. I will be making a few other covers too and of course will have pics when they are done.

  21. Adventure Sports Products Cargo Trailer. Model SST. For sale locally in my area. Went to their web site, looks like a good trailer, but looks aren't everything. It's a 2003 model, less than 2000 miles on it. Any idea about it's value? Anybody here have one? Opinions? Looks like a low option version. Solid white in color, no wings or air foils. It does have the aluminum wheels and I think Gold Wing tail lights. Any info would be greatly appreciated! 22. This works on all motorcycles with carbs. I've slightly revised this for better clarification. And I posted to this section for 2nd Gen's to read. Easy 1-2 Hour job 1. Remove the carb cap, 4 screws. If 1 screw is a security screw used vise grips to turn. 2. Remove the spring. 3. Remove carb slide and diaphram, it's black with a needle hanging out the back. 4. Remove the jet needle, there's a large screw inside the middle of the carb slide holding it in. Pay attention to the order the parts come out. 5. There is a white spacer under a circle clip. Remove it. 6. Replace the white spacer with any small washers about 1/2 the thickness of the white spacer under the circle clip. 7. Ignore the fact that the white spacer has a small tit on one side. 8. You can add 1-2 washers on top of the circle clip to take up the space. (I didn't on my Venture and friends) 9. Put it all back together in the same order it came apart. New washers, jet needle with circle clip tight (check it), 1 or more washers on top of circle clip, small spring, plastic screw, in that order. 10. Carefully reinstall slide and diaphram. Notice diaphram has a tab. 11. Do only one carb at a time. (Can use others as reference) 12. Go for a ride checking gas mileage and performance. My friends 87 Std. went from 37 to 45 mpg. 13. Clean and check spark plugs before and after. Correct color is gray, tan or clean depending on type of gas used. Slightly white electrodes is Ok if the plug base near threads is darker. white base and tip is too lean; black is too rich. 14. SO: Add washers under circle clip to richen, remove washers to lean. 15. My bike is faster now lean (hotter combustion) 16. I set pilot jet screws to 1 3/4 turns out 17. All 4 Ventures were way out of synch before I did them. Much smoother now. Questions? Send me a PM or email: chuckfrench48@gmail.com (mention VR)
  23. Don, As much as I like your avitar Eagle, Just couldn't bring myself to use it. Just seems to belong with you. Found this one, and with it being white--which goes with my black and white bobber, I used this one. Seems to kind of finish it off---least till I change it again. Steve
  24. I had my 87 apart for over two weeks. There is a green two pin quick connector that has two wires- brown (or chocolate?) and white and black and white. The connector emerges from the wiring harness along the left side just above a point halfway between the radiator and the front left (as you sit on the bike) cylinder (no. 2). The manual indicates this may be part of the turn signal circuit, which is not functioning since I put it back together. I am trying to diagnose my turn signals not working and wonder if I'm missing something. The turn signals are DOA. Thanks You guys!
  25. Found at Wally world the "Burners" small chrome foglights that would work great on a motorcycle. Problem is they draw 100 watts and most bikes dont have that to spare. Swapping down to 35Watt bulbs drops the load to 70 watts but that's not good enough for me. I work for a company that is on the cutting edge of LED lighting. the image attached shows 2 different lights in the same small Burners foglights. the white one is a 1 watt white LED matrix, the other is a blinding 3 Watt assembly with focusing lenses. The Image does not show it, but it hurts to look at the Yellow one. I went 1 block down and the bike was incredibly obvious. And yellow is an attention getting color that is legal for the front of the bike. the white ones are a wide flood, dont light the road any. the Yellow ones light the road. what do you guys think? Oh the high power yellow ones draw a total of 6 watts. I can put 3 sets on a bike and still be way under the typical foglight draw. I love how stark the yellow color is, very attention getting. Note photo was taken in bright daylight. I'll take another tonight.
