  1. I don't usually have much time to post but I need to let you all know about Long Island Yamaha. Last month I was on a two week business trip in Long Island, New York. On Monday morning of the second week, as I left the motel for work, my 06 RSMV stopped running. I was pretty sure it was the fuel pump, having had a problem with it once before, at home in Pittsburgh. I called the 800 number and was told that YamaMama would cover the first $50 in towing and $100 per day for trip interruption but they wanted me to tell them were to take it. After getting a ride to the office I looked on the internet for a dealer to call. I was 400 miles from home and needed to leave at the end of the week. I explained the situation to the service manager as well as my previous experiance and why I felt it was the fuel pump. He said he could take the bike but would not be able to look at it for a week. I called another dealer and the guy that answered the phone said to bring it in and they would try to look at it the next day. It was their long day. BTW, the towing company said I had to be there to help load the bike on the tilt-bed. My wife had been waiting with the key but she couln'nt help load the bike. I got a ride back to the motel and waited an hour for the guy to show up. He said he usually just strapped the bikes down by the handle bars. I told him he couldn't do that and he just looked at me. Fortunately, I carry a set of slings just in case. So much for experienced motorcycle haulers. Anyway, the bike was dropped of at about 2:30pm and Bill, the service manager said he would take a look at it and let me know. At 3:45 he called me to say it would be ready if I wanted to pick it up before 5:00. It was in fact the fuel pump. He had taken one off of the 08 that was on the showroom floor so I didn't have to wait for a new one from Yamaha. I cancelled the rental car I had just reserved and got a ride back to the dealer. That is truly great customer service! Long Island Kawasaki - Yamaha 67 North Broadway Hicksville, NY 11801 516-935-6969 http://www.likawasaki.com/
  2. I have taken off work for the next two weeks. Dylan and I will be going to Kitchener for the Rally on Tuesday and will return on Friday. The following week, Eileen and I plan to get away for a week. We are thinking about just riding down to North Carolina for a few days. I'm thinking maybe the Lake Lure area. If so, I can get free hotel rooms in Black Mountain, Hendersonville, Ashville, Arden, Forest City or Marion. Now bearing in mind that we really like areas that are not too awfully crowded with traffic and etc., which would you recommend. I'm leaning towards Arden at this time but that is just a gut feeling. Also, any areas that would be BETTER than the Lake Lure area? I'm certainly open to suggestions. Wouldn't even mind going on to the coast but again there is the traffic and TOO MANY PEOPLE problem. We really aren't looking for exiting things to do or shopping but just nice riding, pretty scenery, a laid back time.
  3. I am meeting with the adjuster this morning to see what my wrecked 87' Venture Royale is worth in his eyes. There has not been as many to compare to on ebay this last week or so. WISH me LUCK I will need it! Any prices from 87' sold in your area? Regards Dave
  4. ...are climbing aboard the Black Beast and heading west early tomorrow morning. I wish we were able to head north to the Venturerider's Rally, but the lure of the Grand Canyon won out. We will be thinking of everyone as we travel and look at the sights. The only regret that I will have this week is not getting to see the disapointed faces when my winning ticket for the trailer is drawn. :stirthepot: Our prayers are with everyone that is traveling this week. I pray that we all have a safe trip and return to our families safe and healthy. When we return I'm sure we will have a couple of hundred pics to post. Everyone be safe. Steve and Donna Stewart
  5. Hi guys, just a note to say thanks to thems that what helped out with the multitude of questions about the 06 Midnight Venture I picked up. While convalescing from surgery last week, my buddies serviced the bike for me, oil change, spark plugs, new tires (E3's), fixed up some gnashed wiring, and installing an ear splitting air horn under the bat wing fairing, etc.. A week after surgery I took the beast out for a casual careful ride (new tires need to be scuffed) and to make sure I could handle it.. I mean I feel strong but ya know how it is.. Holy wow.. nice. Those tires severely wakened the bike up as she really wants to lean for it's size and now, it really doesn't feel top heavy as it did on the previous tires (rear E3 was barely legal worn and the front E2 was scalloped), this made for a huge handling difference. But now wow.. tomorrow is a full day of riding, get the scuff on the tires and burn some gas =) Only ran into one glitch though, the hazard lights stopped working.. signals are OK but no 4 way flashers.. Will post that one in another thread.. But ooooh nice.. My poor broken customized VStar is going to have to wait to get repaired now awww..
  6. Hi folks, I'm new to the Venture side of the bike world, I recently purchased a 2006 Midnight Venture and got to ride it for a week prior to being laid up for surgery (another 2 weeks of recovery to go). While laid up, my friends are changing out the tires, spark plugs and small service work on the bike so that it'll be up and ready to roll when I'm ready. I'm looking at this beautiful bike and have a lot of questions already after riding some 500 miles on it in a week. I hope someone is kind hearted enough to help a lad out. (A) The seat.. I'm 50/50 sitting on the fence about this one. Replace it... stuff it, or what? Not bad for short hauls but I'm cringing at the thought of doing a long haul with it.. I have a Mustang seat on my 1100 VStar.. would I expect the same comfort from a Mustang seat on a Venture? (B) Plastic paint and finish: I've read high and low looking for what people are using to clean up their black finishes on their bikes.. Mine has some blemishes, swirls and wear areas that I think could be cleaned out or polished out.. What would you recommend using or can you point me to somewhere that has more than enough info? Thus far I'm spending a lot of time in the forums reading up on this new bike and I have a ton of questions,.. and I'm eager to get out there riding next week! Cheers
  7. I'm giving a heads up here that I'll be on vacation from June 20-30 so won't be able to fulfill any orders till after I return home. I'll be at Skid's WV Rally later in the week so could be able to bring any orders with me there if you are there as well. I will fill any orders till Wednesday 18th thou. Larry
  8. Don I know where your red marbled waterman pen is.I got to thinking today and called Beer30 and had him look in the trunk,Sure enough the pen is in the trunk of the SS bike. Now if the pen is still there when I got over to Beers this week I will send it to you with the Star Zippo we talked about. Jeff
  9. Saw a black early 80's venture parked in front of a house on my way through the little town of Howard, NY around 2pm on the 6/11/08. Also saw a two tone blue later 80's model on rt 36 in Hornell, NY a week or so ago, forgot to ask about that one until now.
  10. N.H. leaders focus on motorcycle safety, not helmets By Terry Date Staff writer Stow that helmet if you want. Charlie St. Clair, executive director of Laconia Motorcycle Week, and many other motorcyclists say they only wear a helmet in states where they are forced to do so. New Hampshire isn't one of those states. In these parts, many people think education — not mandatory helmets — will save lives. That education is focused on public awareness and motorcyclist training, said Peter Thomson, head of the New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency. The state's safety awareness campaign goes into full swing in May and June, before Motorcycle Week from June 14 to 22. It includes roadside safety messages, the distribution of bumper stickers and an annual rally on the State House steps. The information blitz urges the public to share road space with motorcycles, and riders and drivers to be aware of each other. The state police always urge motorists to increase following distances, not to crowd the center line and not to drink and drive, said Sgt. Steven Ford. Ford, himself, rides a motorcycle in his personal life and always wears a helmet. His experience responding to accidents tells him that helmets save lives. "Some are so devastating that it wouldn't make a difference, but if you have a serious head injury ..." he said, pointing out a helmet wouldn't help in that case. State safety officials also urge motorcyclists to attend the Motorcycle Rider Training Program, offered by the state Division of Motor Vehicles. Two private companies also offer the class. About 64,000 motorcycles are registered in New Hampshire. Last year, about 3,000 people took the classes through the state, and another 650 through the two private companies, Thomson said. He said the program helps novices and older people who haven't ridden for years. While motorcycles have become faster and bigger, he said, older riders' reflexes have slowed with age. Course coordinator Katie Daley said the class includes instruction on turning, stopping, avoiding vehicles, shifting and wearing a helmet. "(We) absolutely recommend everyone wear a helmet," she said. "No one goes through our course without one." Nonetheless, the state has no intention of enacting a helmet law for adults, lawmakers say. New Hampshire champions the rights of individuals to choose for themselves. St. Clair, Thomson, and Sen. Robert Letourneau, R-Derry, are among those who support an adult's right to choose whether to wear a helmet. Is it ironic, that the state won't enact a helmet law but it also won't let you take its safety class without one? No, Letourneau says. Those who take the basic course never leave the parking lot, he said. The helmet is needed for liability reasons, he said. He and St. Clair both said that helmet manufacturers claim their product provides only limited protection. An industry figure given out in the 1980s maintains that a helmet provides limited protection up to 15 miles per hour, St. Clair said. "No greater than that," he said, saying that helmets have not changed much since then. The New Hampshire Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Task Force was formed in 2004, after motorcycle fatalities tripled to 27 from nine in 2003. The task force decided from the outset that it would push for driver and rider education as a means to reduce fatalities — and not press the Legislature to enact a mandatory helmet law. The state only requires helmets for motorcycle riders under 18. "If I rode (a motorcycle), I'd wear one," Thomson said. "But I wouldn't push for a law." At least one task force member thinks mandatory helmets would save lives. "Although a mandatory helmet law isn't a popular subject, it makes sense when it comes to saving lives," John Kohler said. Kohler, who offers private motorcycle safety courses, said that at "a minimum new riders should be made to wear a helmet for a period of time." Letourneau, who has been riding motorcycles for 40 years and owns a Harley-Davidson touring bike, estimates that about half, maybe a little more, of motorcycle riders in the state wear helmets. He bases this on personal observation. He wears one — on occasion. St. Clair said most motorcyclists prefer not to wear a helmet. They can be cumbersome and interfere with what some motorcyclists describe as a spiritual experience. "I am much more comfortable without one," he said. Many of the riders pouring into the state during Motorcycle Week will be riding without helmets. St. Clair expects about 300,000 visitors from June 14 to 22. But with many more motorcyclists in the state during Motorcycle Week, the chance of accidents and fatalities rises. There were 10 fatalities during bike week 2006, and five last year. To help counter the number of deaths, state police go into full patrol mode during Motorcycle Week and help out around Laconia. Trooper days off are cancelled. Vacation days only are allowed for special circumstances, said Ford. Meanwhile, some say the Legislature would never enact a mandatory helmet law because it would hurt attendance at Motorcycle Week and cut into the hundreds of millions of dollars spent by visitors. Letourneau acknowledges that a mandatory helmet law would "do a lot of damage to" bike week. But, he said, the issue is a matter of adults being free to make their own choices. "This is the Live Free or Die state," he said. 11. Has anyone orderd a Carbtune Pro lately and had it on backorder? I ordered one last week from California Sport Touring and it is on 2-3 week delivery (backorder). I'm just wondering if this is a realistic time frame...
  12. It seems more like November or maybe February based on the weather this week. Today's high temp is 10 celcius (49 F) ... normals would be 18 c (64 F). The whole week is going this way... what happened??? May was great...warm...sunny most of the time... I'm even sporting a "farmer's tan" from being out in the sun.... 3 weeks ago I was in my cutoffs...no shirt..and looking for shade! I could go up to the north country and find warmer weather! sheeeeesh! Global Warming??.... not here! If anything, it's getting worse.
  13. I painted my new shop last week and after parking my bike i had to get a shot in front of the new paint, Can you see it? http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/MikeM8560/100_1107.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/MikeM8560/th_100_1109.jpg
  14. Was at the dealers last week and got to talking to an older gentleman, 55, about his scoot. He had it there for a licence certification for about 3 weeks and it seemed that it could go a little longer. He was getting impatient. He's a bit like me, only got his licence for 2 years, bought an older scoot and now wants to ride. Trouble was, his front forks were leaking bad and needed to be repaired, but he was afraid to do it himself because he hadn't done it before. Well I don't have that hang-up, if I haven't done it before now is the first time then. So, to keep this story shorter he called me on Tuesday and asked if my shop would be available and if I could stand by while he did the work. Seeing as the Wizard765's bike is all fixed and gone, I got room, so it's here. It's a 1980 GL 1100, in need of some tender loving care and maybe some upgrades to chrome from rust, but basically it's looks like a lot of elbow grease. He started by pulling off the forks and then I cleaned a little piece on the lower tubes. Well they look like brand new now. Course you just can't stop there, so you call in the troops. We should have this scoot on the road next week after the parts all arrive, new seals, springs, oil, ,,,,,, and oh ja ,,,,,,,tires!!!!!!!! Believe it or not, the front tire was a vintage for sure, manufactured by Dunlop 1973, and the rear was a lot newer,, 1990. He plans on making this a winter project and it should look real nice by next spring.
  15. What are the dates for the Eureka Springs, Ar. ride in? Is it to early to make the reservations? I think the wife and I are planning on taking most of the week off and do some riding there before hand. Looking forward to seeing you all again. Thanks, Dandy
  16. Just wondered if anybody here is in the SW Florida region? My wife and I will be back in that area for vacation the 4th week (21-28)of June:cool10:.I will be riding the Venture down Friday June 20th and my wife is flying into SW regional at Ft. Myers on Sunday June 22nd. We (I) have become pretty familiar with the area as we have been making this trip for several years now Thought it would be nice to meet some fellow V-4 riders. We will be staying in North Port right off of 41.Our usual itinerary again will be riding and hanging out at the beach. We wander up and down the coast the whole week trying to hit different beaches. Normally we go as far north as Siesta Keys and south as far as Marco Island. We are always wanting to find new places to eat and ride so if anyone is local and knows some secret hotspot away from the tourist traps let us know! Look forward to some new friends, good eats...and of course great rides! Jeff Spiker
  17. OK - who were you? I saw a nice, black, RSV, pulling a trailer, man and woman of retirement vintage, on Ocracoke Island North Carolina. Didn't stop - just kept moving along. Who was there this week except for me and about a gazillion HDs?
  18. How do I pull up posts by specific people. Can't seem to figure this out since I was a week ago. Iowa Guy:confused24:
  19. Found this pic on another forum. It's a Long Range Recon Patrol biker ready for a week long mission in Iraq. Awesome! God Bless our Troops!-Jack
  20. Just wondering if anybody is planning on going to MB Bike week? The wife and I are heading down on Monday the 12th and coming back on the 18th. If anybody wants to get together for a impromptu meet and eat or anything else, (Get your mind out of the gutter Beer30:rotf:) we are always open for suggestions. I will have my cell with me and the number is in the Members section.

  22. What is the best way to bleed the rear brake system? I have a shop manual but just thought someone here had come up with a good bleeding sequence. Is there any way to turn this into a solo operation as I am home alone for the week end. I see the rear master cylinder is not very easy to get into. Any tips appreciated! regards Dave
  23. Wild Hair, Lowell, The Ambassador is high and dry in Pauls Valley, OK tonight. I had to call and check on him tonight with all the storms moving between his house and OKC this week. He did wind up in the middle of a hail storm this week, otherwise he's stayed a step a head of the storms.
  24. My 2003 Venture has a problem with the battery going flat after it sits for around 12 to 14 days. The charging system is working fine. If I ride at least once a week, I never have a problem. But let is sit two weeks.... dead battery. I replaced original battery with an Odyssey brand recently and scenario is the same. My brothers 2006 V-Max does the exact same thing. Do any of you have any experience/fix for this problem, or any ideas (other than ride it at least once a week)?
  25. I added a sissy bar to Jan's bike this last week. She's happy!! We've ordered a pack to go it as well.
