  1. It's been a really rotten week at work and with what's going on in the world I've been in a real schlump this week but......just when I'm starting to enjoy my pity party that I was having, I stepped outside this morning. Wow... crystal clear blue skies, warm sun hitting my face, the trees are at thier peak.... I don't know about the rest of you, but come 5:00 the hubby and I are jumping on the bikes and it doesn't matter where we go. It's going to be great!! Hope you all get a chance to ride this weekend cuz life doesn't get any better than that!! Happy Friday!
  2. I start my new position as a Technical Trainer and will be traveling 5 days a week 49 weeks a year... next week - McKinney TX The week after that - Phoenix Who knows where after that. I have been thinking about selling my 2 1st gens... anyone want an 86 or 87??

  4. The St. Jude/Mean Dog Memorial Ride is just a little over a month away. According to the poll it looks like we have 13 bikes planning to attend. I know some others have inquired about the ride but havent seen their votes on the poll. I will be contacting St. Jude next week to set up the appointment and I need to give them a number of how many people will be attending so they can arrange tour guides. So, please if you plan on attending please let me know by the end of next week so we dont show up with a large group they arent expecting and not be able to accomodate us, If you are new to the group and have never attended one of our gatherings, this is the perfect time to do so, you get to meet some really fine members and help the kids at St. Jude at the same time. Here are the links to all the threads about this fundraiser and ride. Inked for St Judes - VentureRider.Org Flying J , West Memphis, Ark...... - VentureRider.Org Mean Dog Memorial
  5. Next week we'll be riding the Dragon with some friends. Barb and I have ridden it 4 times, and our friends aren't all that aggressive in corners, but a while back there was a lot of talk about enforcing the speed limit etc. We'll be riding in the middle of the week. Have there been a lot of police on the Dragon lately?? Frank D.
  6. :banana:I'm going to be a father-in-law! My oldest son, Matt, and his girlfriend Valerie got engaged last week. He popped the question last week while they were on a Caribbean cruise. I was surprised but not totally. No date set yet.

    new job

Things have been slow where I work. I worked in a kitchen cabinet door manufacturing facility, and with the housing market being so bad, our orders are way down. After just about 11 years with the same company and working 60 to 70 hours a week, I have been using vacation time to try to get my 40 hrs. a week for some time now. I have applied at a number of different places but at 56 years old it seems not to many places want to hire you. I had put an application in with Case New Holand and was called in for an interview, and hired on the spot, of course had to wait for the background check, criminal history check and a ua, (drug check), to come back and then I was call and will be starting work on the 25th of this month. It will be an assemble position and a small cut in pay but at least I will be getting 40 hours a week and more and they have good benefits. Job is in Fargo, about 70 miles from home so will be staying there all week and be coming home on weekends. I have family in Fargo so have a place to stay. Will find a place to live closer to work after our son graduates from school, 2 years left. Lots of people I worked with didn't have any vacation saved up and are unable to pay their bills, at least I had some money saved and vacation to use and have been able to meet my bills, savings has been taking a big hit and will take a while to get back on track.
  12. Last week I saw a part that I now find that I really WANT. I saw it on one of the sites and thought I had saved it in my favorites but now I can't find it. The part is a toggle switch ( actually 3) that sit on top of the front brake MC. I saw it either on this site or the other venture site and I am hoping that someone will remember where it was and assist me in finding it. I ahve my new key switch ordered and we ( Gunboat et al) are doing a clutch slave rebuild in the next week, as well as adding a new clearview WS and some new grips to the 99 RSV. I con't sope my self now I just bid on a set of RK pipes that are on ebay and located right here is Houston. I can save the shipping on that at least. But I gotta have more chrome I need chrome, I want chrome. LOL I found out this past weekend that my 99RSV will do at least 118, but I chickened out at that speed as I was in an area with a lot of curves. Have a great weekend all and thanks for this great site. JB

  15. We head out this morning for several days of camping..... original plan was to go to asheville.....but withgas prices etc we decided after the MD trip and the $$$ we spent we'd stay closer to home this week. We are heading up to Omaha area to camp and hit the zoo and childrens museum, water park and several other things. Wish us luck as we taking a friend of haylies along...2 six yr olds will pretty much wear us out fast !! And as hot as its been here....there is a excess heat warning out for the next several days///dont it figure............looks like we will just melt away . the heat and humidity combined are horrific right now......105 heat index theyre calling for from today thru monday.... hopefully the ac in the camper comes thru for us...... its an older camper we picked up and we put a new window ac in it last week. dont know f anyone lives near that area from here......but we will be at the two rivers sra west of omaha til the 7th. Dales cell # is in his profile
  16. Next weekend I'm picking up a gently used Piggybacker trailer. I would like to get the componets to wire it this week but I have no clue on what is needed. Can someone out there point me in the right direction on this. Thanks for the help.
  17. I have a new gasket that I don't need due to my bike having a new owner. If anyone needs one, let me know and I will mail it to you. If I have time, I will send it before I go on my elopement. We will be leaving for Hot Springs early Wed. morning and will not be back until Sunday. If I don't get it to you before I leave, I will see you get it next week. Please double check the part number to make sure it is the one you need. Thanks.
  18. I am leaving for Star Days on Monday, just noticed that the lower left side cowling/fairing as a horizontal crack starting from the outside and working its way inward towards the radiator. Need to hold it together for the week ride. This is the 2nd one I have gone through - first one (original) lasted 8 years, I just replaced it 1.5 months ago and now this one has cracked. Anyone have any advice? TIA

  20. Here is a slide show of our trip to Myrtle Beach during Bike Week 2008. I know it's late, but for some reason I procrastinate. There are two Ventures in here, one with a different back rest, passenger seat, and passenger arm rests. If anybody has any info it would be cool to find out where they came from. It was great seeing SleeperHawk and Mechanic there. We had a great day together. You have got to see the....... I'm not sure how to describe it, well you will know when you see it. http://s227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/Myrtle%20Beach%202008/?albumview=slideshow
  21. I've read several posts here about the Metzler tires self destructing and have wondered why. The reasons have varied from "no quality control" to "their just junk tires." I'm not a Metz fan--I run Avons--but I'm wondering if a thing I saw recently on ABC News could shed some light on the subject. It was an investigative report by John(?) Ross and dealt with the manufacturing dates on tires; some companies are selling tires that were produced as long as 10 or 12 years before they are bought off the shelf as "new." One of the consequences, according to the report, is "tires dried out on the inside" causing separation of tread at low mileages. They used anecdotal evidence for the most part--similar to the Bridgstone problem a few years back--but there was one shot of a tire in a cage that destructed while spinning. No guarantee that it was properly inflated or anything else though--just their implication that is was. By the way, they were going by the manufactured-date code on the tires. For instance, the code 199 translated to the 19th week of 1999 for manufacture. 1902 would be the 19th week of 2002. Mr. Tartan, can you verify any of this as feasible/plausible/probable? I gather you're in the business and I'm not sure I trust ABC News. (Can anyone else verify it?) Thanks for any input on this. Again, I'm just trying to get at the truth through objective evidence.
  22. Did anyone go to Bike Week in Gettysburg last week? I was on my bike coming home from Chryslers at Carlisle on Saturday (boy was it a hot one) and saw a couple 2nd gen Ventures running around. Gettysburg was packed with bikes, I would say thousands, mostly Harleys of course. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Also they are having a motorcyle show in Carlisle July 25-27, is anyone planning on going? Here is the link: http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ce/events/bikefest/ I think they are having a demo ride for all Yamaha Star Edition bikes.
  23. Well, Eileen and I were on and off about going anywhere this week. We finally decided yesterday that we would go. I spend Saturday cleaning the bike, cleaning and re-oiling the air filters, etc. Made reservations last night near Seneca Rocks, WV and thought that would be a nice place to spend a week. Woke up this morning and wasn't feeling well at all. I tried to push through it. Got the trailer hooked up, got everything all packed, took care of some last minute things around here and then try as I might, I just couldn't deny the fact that I was not feeling well enough to go. I did something to my left foot yesterday while working in the yard. Can barely walk today. Also have some type of virus or something and spending a LOT of time visiting the toilet. Finally admitted to Eileen that I was sick and then canceled the hotel reservations in WV. So, I slept for about 7 hours today and I THINK I'm feeling a bit better. Foot still hurts but I think I can balance the bike OK with it when I stop. We are going to try again tomorrow to at least get aways somewhere....probably somewhere closer but just get away.
  24. Those people that did NOT get their t-shirts at the rally, as you probably know by now there was a problem with our shirt supplier. I meant to explain this at the Wednesday night wrap-up dinner but anyone that was there knows that I was out off my game a little bit that evening due to "Tinkerbell" and "Beelzebub" and forgot to discuss it. We have another order in for the remaining shirts, I had to deal with another supplier. They should probably be in early next week. Al and I will sit down early next week and get it all figured out and then ship your shirts to you. We may need to send emails out to some of you to get shipping addresses. Thanks for your patience. By the way....this weekend I will be drinking heavily in an attempt to get the images of those two out of my mind.:yikes:
  25. Storms blew through the Twin Cities today. No real major damage but it did take out a tree in our back yard. It landed up against a pine tree and power pole, but missed the house and my new fence (so far). The power company said they will come out sometime next week. Worthless deadbeats. The full story is the tree spit down the trunk vertically and we noticed it a few weeks ago. I took down one half (half not near the power lines) and that stabilized it a bit. It had been widening the split in minor breezes. We called a tree service to remove the rest of the tree and they said they couldn't do anything until the power company came out and trimmed it back from the power lines. Well, the power company never showed up and today the storm did show up. Now they still won't show up for a week. Like I said worthless deadbeats.
