  1. The hips have arthritis, as do the neck and shoulders... too many years driving long haul trucks [45+yrs] The Venture was getting too heavy, so before any mishap I have changed bikes! A friend here wanted mine, and I wanted his...so we swapped I now ride an FJR Still consider myself a Venture rider, don't come in here much -- but I lurk LOL and get all the goings-on from Annie Stay safe everyone
  2. I have an 83 venture that I still can not get running correctly. Looking for ideas and things to check and how. If I come around corner and accelerate it may “pop” back once or twice and then kick in. Problem seems to gets worse as the bike gets hotter. But is sluggish and “pops” under acceleration then takes off. Notice the problems seem to drop off and the beast has new power at about 3100 RPM. IF you lower the rpms to around 2500 RPM it really loads up. To start it up I seem to have the best luck choking it and then moving the to the right to almost no choke and it will finally kick in. Idle is a little unsteady but not too bad. History 1. Cleaned the carbs a couple of times. Had slider and stuck float this week and there are both fixed. Idle screws are set at 2 turns out, Have also tried 1 ½ turns out. Tried smaller shims and bike run worse so reinstalled original shims in sliders. Rechecked the float levels. 3. Set the valves last year and several were too tight. 4. New plug wires and caps and plugs last year. 6. Have after market TCI using the stock program. about 1 ½ year ago NO MAPP sensor. Basically does the same things with the original TCI in place. 7. Sync;d carbs several times and again last night. Run about 6 inch at 1000RPM . 8. YICS was removed last year. 9. Gas mileage is under 30 MPG. 10. Have spark on all cylinders. 11. Every once in a while running down the road it will stumble but come right back. Thank in advance for the advice

  4. Barb and I got home Friday night from a 15 day, 3500 miles long trip. We rode down to the southern tip of Illinois and visited friends, then the 4 of us rode to Nashville. Our friends left for home, and we continued to our daughter's house near Mufreesboro TN. A couple of days with the grandsons, and also took our son-in-laws new Concours for a ride---but it started to rain pretty hard right after I left, so I headed back home. Nice bike though, sure is fast. We left our daughter's house and headed to Cleveland TN, where he jumped on some of the back roads. When we were enjoying the Cherohala Skyway when we came up on an old motorcycle doing all it could to climb the grade. We passed him and noticed that it was a 2 cylinder flathead V, but that's all I could tell for sure. We pulled off on the next overlook, and the other rider did also. It turned out that the bike was a 1919 Indian Scout, and the guy was touring on it!!! We continued on the skyway and turned onto North Carolina 129 just a bit south of where it becomes the Dragon. When we got to the Dragon, there were very few bikes (it was almost 6PM on a Tuesday), and that the police were running hand held radar further north near the straight section by the lake. There was one Venturerider.org member on a red 2006 Venture (I've forgoten his name...sorry). We still enjoyed another trip down the Dragon, or at least as much as you can with an 89 Venture 2 up and the bags packed to capacity. We never saw the cops, but because of the time of day probably they probably gave it up. We had dinner at a neat restaurant called "Hearth and Kettle Restaurant" (great food and prices and a sign by the register that reads "You never see a motorcycle parked in a Psychiatrists parking lot"). Then we rode through Pidgeon Forge and spent the night in Gatlinburg. It started to rain lightly just as we got to town, but we didn't get too wet. In the morning we walked around Galtlinburg and also rode the loop north of town---beautiful. Then we headed south to Cherokee N.C. and then southward on back roads to Hendersonville N.C. and then south into S. Carolina to meet up with Barb's cousin and his wife. They ride a new BMW 1600 GTL. We rode around with them on his favorite back roads, and then loaded both bikes back up and headed for Charleston S.C. On the way to Charleston, his legs started cramping on the BMW and he wanted to try our Venture, so we swapped for a bit. This was our 2nd ride on a BMW, we test rode one last year. The one last year had the short seat on it and it was terrible. This one had the tall seat, but actually it was only a little better. After 50 miles, I my butt was telling me that it wanted the good old Venture back. As I said last year, the BMW has tons of power, great brakes, and handling. The throttle by wire makes it a bit awkward to start without slipping the clutch too much or killing the engine. Something I noticed on this ride is that there is a lot of drive-line lash that makes itself known with a big "CLUNK" whenever you back off the throttle or roll it back on---way more than the Yammie. We got to Charleston ok, and the 4 of us plus Barb's other cousin and his wife (who live in Charleston) had a great visit with lots of laughs. Barb and I rode up to Myrtle Beach for the bike show on Saturday---it was mostly Harleys with a couple of Gold Wings and some crotch rockets thrown in for good measure. The only Venture I saw there was mine. On Sunday morning, we headed down to Hilton Head to see how the rich folks live and then south into Georgia. On Monday morning we rode south and touched Florida just east of the Okefenokee swamp. Then we headed up to Atlanta and visited other family for a couple of days. My cousin told me about Georgia route 52 between Elijah and Chatsworth. A beautiful road to ride if you are in the area. We headed up into TN. and spent a couple of days at our daughters again and headed home Friday. It was a great vacation and trip. We saw a lot of beautiful scenery, rode a lot of curvy roads, and the bike ran great. Even with a tropical depression off the coast near Charleston the most rain we had to deal with was a few drops on the windshield and then it was gone. Now it rained a couple of times hard, but we were stopped for the night already or we were at our daughter's house. Many times on this trip I looked up and gave thanks. Frank D.
  5. Caged over to my daughters yesterday afternoon for a birthday BBQ, and coming the other direction was a group ride of about 20 bikes. Looked closer and the ride captain's bike had eye brows on the fairing. Dang...a Venture!! Started looking at the other bikes in the group and there were about 8 of them that had the 'brows'. Cool.... It must have been a group from Star Riders 153 going somewhere... It was the most Ventures I'd seen since Cody... I checked the 153 calendar, and it said something about a 'Stary Night' event, but no info on it. That's where they must have been heading.... Wonder what it was...???
  6. In your Venture. Would you ride it cross country tomorrow....???
  7. I'm in the habit of leaving my cb on with squelch set to around 16 when I ride, even if I'm not in a group. Just wondering... how many other's leave their cb turned on in case they come across another Venture rider going the other way?
  8. I recently learned about the donation process when you dump your bike. 1) It was back in around Oct of 2010. I was in the garage and wanted to turn the Venture around. I was recovering quite well from open heart surgury on 4 May 2010. But I was in no condition to picking up an 800 lbs of Venture. The Story: While turning the Venture around in the garge, I knew had to be careful. So I put the kickstand down so it would catch the fall in case I dropped the VR. So with the side stand down I was also off the Venture's left , I pushed the Venture foward, In so doing the side stand druged on something and kicked the stand back. beyond the threshhold point. After I got the bike where I wanted it I let it onto what I tought was the side kick stand down. Oops no side kick stand, the bike started go down and I just let it go. I first put it in gear and took a come-along and hooked it to the frame of the pick up trunk and got the Venture up. 2) I pulled off the side of the road where it was paved. It was up hill on a sharp corner and the sidepaved road went up to greet me. I also stoped for I needed to turn around the VR aroiund for I went too far. So I stop where I could let gravity push me back and to the right. Well because the right side of where I stoped was quickly going dow, I had to get the bike stopped and leaned to the left. Everything happend so fast. The bike leaned over to the right side and over she went. It so happend that a you guy stopped and asked if I needed help get the VR back upright. I humbled accepted his offer.
  9. Is there anyway to fix the radiator on my 07 Venture. The leak is right on the seam of side the unit.
  10. Hey there everybody. A few weeks ago I bought a beater '84 Venture Royale. After riding it a bit I found I like ed it an awful lot. Got to looking around and found my new bike. I drove 350 miles each way on my hunch after talking to the owner and looking at a very blurry picture. Here is my new ride. 23,500 on the odometer. The carbs seem a little sluggish, hopefully Sea Foam will clear them up. Runs fair, but idles real low. This is what it looks like without my touching it. Everything works as it should. I'll register it when I get back from my OTR trip this week.
  11. hello every one i could use some advice on a motorcycle. as some people know i sold the 1984 venture royal. now i heard from my lawyer that my workers comp case is over and should have a settlement check by august. or as early as july? it,s not a fourtune. but should help me get a nice bike and take care of basic needs for a few years. im thinking of going with a smaller bike. bad knees and seat hight on the venture made it hard to handle. i heard about v stars? but do they make them larger then a 650cc. not that a 6500cc is bad. just want something that can get me down the highway,s and make trips with some comfort. someone said they made a 1100cc? or a 900cc? i dont want to realy leave the yamaha brand. and im thinking in the $3000.00 to $3500 range if that can be done ? on a good vstar. or something else you all can think of? thanks oldgoat
  12. I have a Mustang seat on my 650 V-Star and have always loved it......I know Mustang has brought out a Venture seat....Who knows what?......Just rode home to Ohio from Thunder on the Beach in Panama City Beach....Need seat help for my 230 lb 64 y/o self!
  13. I have a 1984 venture which I'm in process of getting running.. I have a lead on a 1991 venture the guy wants 300.00 dollars for says it ran last year .. but couldn't get it started this year . He said he put sea foam in it ... I have not laid eyes on this bike yet.. just wanting to know if it is a waste of time ? So will any of the parts from a 1991 fit a 1984??? thanks
  14. Does the 2nd Gen Ventures have the word Venture anywhere on the bike. If so could someone send me a picture of one.
  15. Just received a change in the Venture Patch with a New Font....It Brings tears to my eyes. All those who placed orders on the last thread "Venture Patch Order 4/20/12" will be receiving this new patch. So those that placed their order on that last thread DO NOT need to place order on this thread UNLESS you want to order more. If you want to order more, please place just the ADDITIONAL amount on this new tread , with the word "ADDITIONAL" so I know to combine the two orders. Sizes Available: 3 1/2 5 3/4 7 9 14
  16. Hello everyone this is my first time to post. A big thanks to Freebird for your help. I just purchased a 1993 Yamaha Venture Royal and the turn signals are not working. They are not getting power to them and all the fuses are good. Can anyone help. Thanks
  17. Tried searching but struck out.... Has anyone installed Venture passenger grips on a RSTD? I am not installing a trunk yet but will in the future but wanted to try to adapt these stock venture assist grips.... Any help or pics would be outstanding.... Thanks in advance.... Bob
  18. With the next gen 2014 Goldwing just around the corner Yamaha needs to step it up!!! When will we se the next Venture? Okay about the only thing we know for sure about the 2014 Goldwing for sure is that there is going to be one, but with the introduction of the BMW K1600GTL Honda is going to step it up big time. So where does that leave Yamaha.... The Venture is a great bike but there is no way it will be able to compete with the next generation of bikes that will be showing up before to long. I have benn doing research religiously and have came up with nothing leading to a next gen Venture so I'm starting to wonder if there well even be one?
  19. Does anyone know if you can somehow adapt one of the new Royal Star seats to a Royal Star Venture?
  20. the front right brake line that links to the fork (see Photo). Does anyone know where to get one? It's for a Venture Royale 1983... Thank you for the help.
  21. well, between work and lack of available cash, I didn't get too much done on the 83 over the last couple of months. I DID, however, get all the parts, finally, that I need to fix the rear brakes, so that will be getting done as soon as I get home from the 2 stroke meet this coming week at Deals Gap. Anyway, my job as a cable guy has me running all over the county, so I see quite a few bikes and cars for sale. I was offered a 1985 Venture Royale for a very small sum. The bike has had part of the plastics removed for some electrical work. The plastics are in fantastic original condition, completely unlike mine. My question is, will all of the 85 venture Royale plastics fit on my 83 standard Venture? If so, the plastics are worth the asking price as it less than the cost just for the paint and bodywork on my 83. I'm not concened about the 83 not being the original color. The 85 is either a dark burgundy or dark brown...light wasn't great when I saw it. Thanks in advance, Jeff
  22. I have a question, regarding Yamaha's use of part numbers. Is Yamaha consistent with their numbering system, for identical parts, across models and years? If the same part was used in a Venture, VMax and/or Royal Star, during several model years, would the part numbers be the same?
  23. I have a question. All of you with 83 thru 91 first & second gen Venture & Venture Royales, could you please tell me what you'r engine is turning at 70 MPH? As most of you know it took me three years to turn our 89 Venture Royale into a trike, which I finished last spring and we took on a 4000+ mile trip. However I can't remember what RPM the bike used to turn at 70 so I don't know if my gearing is right or wrong. Thanks in advance.
  24. I have been summoned by Coweta County Superior court for jury duty so no work for me today, and maybe a few more this week, get paid by the court, get paid by my employer, not a bad deal. More money to throw at the Venture and getting it back running, maybe some new plastic............can't get safety chrome for these old relics anymore.
  25. Got this geared motor at work today from one of the other engineer's. There may be a couple of more available. I don't know what it was intended for. 12V motor, not a servo motor. Only 2 wire input. What can this motor be made to do on a Venture. Really, you know me, I may just try the best ideas. Gary
