  1. I have an opportunity to purchase an 8x12 2010 enclosed trailer for $3k tomorrow. (distress sale, used once) Is this overkill on size to haul the Hannigan. What (I know, no one trailers their RSV) size trailer do you use?
  2. Just a short update to let you all know that the rally planners are working hard to make the 2012 NY Int. rally a success...t shirts and patches are in the works.....portable shower for the Pioneer campers also in the works along with getting the trailer for the raffle...please go to the calendar and sign up if you plan to attend.....also if you have something you would like to donate for the raffle please contact motorcycletom...I'm sure he would appreciate it...The target date to have the registration packets and trailer tickets available is the first of the year....
  3. Royalstar Midnight Venture / 2002 / wiring a trailer to the bike. I made the trailer ball the ground because the trailer only came with a four pin wire set up. any suggestions for a better job?
  4. I finaly got well enough to go back to Ga and get my trailer. I just left Kirbys house and I think his dogs wanted me and my two small ones for lunch. I got it back to the campground and can't believe the stuff I packed and how the Venture was able to tow it. I still want to say thanks to my Venture family for helping me out during this ordeal.
  5. Rickster

  7. This does not have a receiver.... So if you are a PGR member, it would be hard to switch from flag holder and back to trailer. I just saw it and thought this might help someone else. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.m748&item=190582644319&viewitem=&_trkparms=clkid%3D3155915016270951475#ht_500wt_1182
  8. I've been on the phone off and on for the past hour with TuffTom, the impound yard, and Cowboy trying to find a way to get Tom's trailer moved from the impound yard somewhere where Tom can get it when he feels better. Tom was notified today the insurance company is only paying the storage fees on the trailer through tomorrow 09/02/11. The impound yard will be closed until Sept 6th for labor day weekend. Now being the great group we are I know we can pull this together on short notice. I'm told that we should put the trailer on a trailer to get it to Tom or somewhere he can get it. Who can step up and help me on short notice? I'd get it but I have neither a trailer nor a towing hitch.
  9. While working on Sat I saw a midnight RSV on a trailer on I-10 W being pulled by a Ford F-150 in Jacksonville, then on my next trip about an hour later I saw an RSV with a voyager kit loaded on another trailer being pulled by a white Impala on I-295 N getting off on Commonwealth Ave here in Jax. ON Friday night I saw another RSV on a trailer. Three RSV's, loaded on trailers being pulled by vehicles with Florida tags. A very unusual sight. Unless there is a stolen vehicle ring operating here in town that specializes in Ventures.......
  10. Took a test ride on an 08 RSV today and yes the whine is there. It wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. My question is : does this whine get worse as you place more load on the engine such as riding two up or pulling a trailer. Really liked the bike. Just wanted some info before I take the plunge. Thanks.
  11. One word,,,,,,, "Oh crap". Was crusing down I-20 with traffic at about 75 when the rear tire started getting squirlly. Pulled off just in time to pull in to a parking lot. Yep, flat rear, bolt in the tire. My son-in-law brought my trailer. As I was about to ride up the ramp he said,,,, "you sure you can make that angle?". I said yeah,,,, without really checking. You guessed it, the oil pan hit the trailer bed edge and knocked the oil plug 1/2 way out and broke open the bottom of the oil pan, setting up for a rapid oil drain. I will check with the dealer and look on Pinwall. But my dealer is great and likely will take it there. SO,,, Anyone got guesses on repair cost. I'm guessing the only damage is the oil pan it's self. Thanks, Mike G
  12. I spoke with Alan yesterday and I will be getting the trailer back before they head home. I was unaware that we would be relaying it back east. Has there been any plans for this? There is no problem storing it at my house for the time being. Let me know what the plans are. Thanks, Wayde
  13. My friend and I came up with a very good idea. I have mine finished today, I did the sanding and painting myself. I tried it out, I ran 65 mph once while flying the 3'x5' flag on a six foot pole, no problems, very very strong build. This will work fine right in your existing 1 1/4" trailer hitch or just add yourself a trailer hitch to your bike and this will work great. Took us a few days to work every thing out, the correct angle, the length, proper placement on the bike and so on. Works wonderful. These units would work great for any motorcycle. There is also room in the flat steel area to attach a sticker of your choice (left & right side), that is what I am going to do. I thought I would post this, because of all the hard time I had finding ideas and such and looking for one for sale. I found nothing in this price range and I am just wanting to share this and possibly help some other Patriot Guard Riders out. I will have these in the Classified section ASAP for all, with PayPal options and so forth. Thank you, Fuzzy
  14. Just returned home from our weekend camping trip with the new-to-us tent trailer. Had to stick a plug in a nailhole in the rear tire just before we left. Fairly new Dunlop Elite 3 (appx 4500 miles on it). Checked the tire regularly during the trip and found it to be very hot after an hour or so riding. So hot in fact that I could not hold my hand on it very long and the wheel was even hotter. Running 39 lbs cold in the tire. The front tire was warm but not too warm and the trailer tires were about the same. I guess I had about 40lbs weight on the tongue and a light load on the bike. We did the whole trip (appx 800 kilometers) without issue but the tire was still quite hot each time I checked it. BTW, I have no idea how hot the tire might have been before this trip riding without the trailer. Any thoughts on this guys??
  15. So I found this 2009 trailer on CL. It was listed for $225. He took $185. It belonged to a Harley guy that used it a few times a year. http://www.raymondstacy.com/hm.jpg It came with a ball that swings from side to side. I guess this works ok but I was thinking that a swivel hitch like this would be better http://www.raymondstacy.com/sh.jpg The swivel hitch costs almost as much as the trailer. Is it a worthy investment?
  16. I've been riding (at times off and on) for 34 years on 10 different bikes. I'd guesstimate I have close to 200K miles in that time. I've obviously had my share of close calls, and in fact I've been hit (slight bumps) three times quite a few years ago, but I have never been involved in an actual accident or gone down. Until Sunday afternoon... My 17 year-old son and I were headed to one of our local mountain areas to do some camping. I was towing our Cycle-Kamp trailer, and Matthew was riding what is now his Suzuki Boulevard C50T. It's only about a 150 mile ride, with the last 60 or so on Hwy 38, a scenic twisty mountain road. It was a nice sunny day, just very hot at the lower altitudes. It's not uncommon for a late afternoon thunder storm in the area, and we had seen the clouds indicating we may run into it, but I was hoping to miss it. But the rains did get us, and it was pouring down pretty good. Kind of a bummer to deal with, but certainly nothing new. Then it began to hail. The size of marbles, and it was coming down hard. And we were less than 10 miles from our campground. I was more concerned about my son, so I was looking for a suitable spot to pull off. I saw a potential area and started to slow down. I was going about 40 mph, on a slight decline and into a sweeping left curve. As I tapped the brakes, I felt what I think was the trailer probably coming around to the right behind me. Not necessarily jack knifing, but it was pushing the back of the bike to the left. I knew immediately I was in trouble, but for a second I thought I could correct it and ride it out. But I didn't. I went down to the right, and I came off the bike then, sliding about 40 or 50 feet. The bike apparently flipped over to the other side and slid a little more as well. I remember thinking to keep my head up and my hands up (I was wearing fingerless gloves), and I remember seeing me and the bike going towards a Chevy Tahoe coming the other way, and praying that he would stop. As I came to a stop I appeared to be unhurt and was able to get to my feet right away. Thankfully my son had been able to somehow stop safely, but he was a mess. I could hear him screaming as I was sliding along. Then I guess he didn't see me for a couple seconds, and he panicked even more. He came running to me balling, and just held on. He couldn't stop crying. The Tahoe not only had stopped, but he pulled across the road to block traffic. And several cars behind Matthew stopped. I had heard a woman in a car that was in the pull off saying "Oh my God, he's getting up!" The man driving the Tahoe came over to help me pick up the bike and push it to the side. At first glance the damage looked significant, and it was difficult to push. The floorboards were pushed up so I couldn't get it out of gear. Part of the coupler had actually broken, so we just had to remove the safety chains to separate the trailer. Once everything was off the road, I looked where it had all just happened. I was amazed at the conditions I was looking at. The hail was still coming down and the road appeared to be almost snow covered. Of course it stopped about that time, but it continued to pour down rain for another 20 or so minutes. And there was nowhere to take cover. I wanted to take some photos of the bike and road conditions, but I didn't want to ruin my phone. So here we were, on a mountain road 150 miles from home, in pouring rain, and with one bike unridable and a busted trailer. There are some awesome people in this world still. The couple in the Tahoe were those people for us that day. Steve and Kathy live in the mountain town of Bear City, and they were just out for a Sunday afternoon drive in the rain. They too were both soaked after helping me get the bike and trailer off the road. Steve told me he had a trailer and would be willing to go get it and trailer us into town, or even back down the mountain to the freeway. I humbly and thankfully accepted his offer. I had already contacted my brother that was going to head up to get us, but that was going to take a while. Steve and Kathy returned with their trailer in about 30 minutes, and we were able to load the RSV and the trailer onto it. By now they offered for us to come to their home to wait for my brother. Did I say these people are awesome? Once at their home, I made some phone calls. I cancelled my camping reservations, and notified family and friends about what had happened, but assuring everyone we were okay. I had to talk one of my daughters into staying put till we got home, she wanted to come up to make sure I was okay. We changed into dry clothes and Kathy even threw our wet ones in the dryer. And I inspected the bike more thoroughly. I must admit, I was now starting to feel some bruising, and the emotions were coming on. It was a bit of a scary ordeal. I have rambled on enough for now. I'm not sure, but I think the bike is totaled. I'll add to this later and include some details on the damage and some photos. I'm pretty bummed at the ruined camping trip and the potential loss of my bike, but I obviously have a lot to be thankful for. I am so thankful that it was me and not my son that went down. It was so hot when we left home, and I normally would have been without the jacket and wearing just a t-shirt. For some reason I wore my TourMaster mesh jacket, and it did do its job. I also tend to wear either my 3/4 or even half helmet in that kind of heat, but I had my full face modular helmet on. Not a scratch on the helmet, but you never know. Although the hail probably was the biggest cause of me going down, it also provided a slick "sheet" for me to slide along on. The Tahoe was able to stop on time. Kathy said from looking at me coming at them, she really thought I would be seriously hurt or even killed. Steve said he didn't know what to think as he saw me and the bike and trailer coming at him. Said it looked bad. I thank God I was not seriously hurt. And of course the kindness and hospitality that was given to us by Steve and Kathy. And thank you to all on here for letting me tell my story, and for all the kind words I know I will get.
  17. I would like to buy a used Aluma MC-10 trailer. If anyone knows of one in the central Texas area, I sure would appreciate hearing about it...thanks in advance.
  18. noticed my brake lights on trailer not working nor turn signals but had running lights. read all the forums but didnt run across my problem. checked power going into 5 to 4 connector under back seat and had all, everything right. checked power coming out and only had the running light wire hot. so bought a new 5 to 4 connector and installed it way and had power for a bit till i touch brown and green or something and had a spark while wiring trailer plug back up and now the outlet on the new connector is the same as old one, only running light wire hot.it blew a fuse[head] when i did that, can you fry the 5 to 4 connector that easy? for now i took connector off and wired brakes to red and running lights to brown right off bike wires so i at least have running lights and brakes.want to fix it right but need to know if that spark could take out my new $28.00 5 to 4 connector. help! before i spend $28.00 again and blow it.
  19. Did not see any other posts for wiring a Royal Star Tour Deluxe here. Never ever done this on a motorcycle before. 1. Do I just pick up a standard 4 wire connector for a pick up truck ? 2. Does the Royal Star Tour Deluxe (2007) have wiring harness somewhere stashed under seat/something ? 3. Does the standard 4 wire trailer wiring work for most trailers and such ? I hope there is a good write up with lots of pictures somewhere on this for me. This is going to be mostly for an extra light accessory for now. We are going to fab (with help from a good friend and brother in the Lord) up a flag holder for the bike to fit my hitch, for PGR trips. Then later I want a trailer. Thanks for any help. Fuzzy
  20. What to folks do about a Trailer Jack when on a trip...I guess is I take the plug kit and a mini compressor, I would not need any jack? Any thoughts....Leaving for South Dakota on the 3rd.... Long Tall:smile5:
  21. We finally made it home at 3:45, should have been home sooner but, we had to do some vehicle swapping........Paula's Honda developed transmission problems. We had to stop and pull both our bikes off the trailer and put the Accord on the trailer. Jamie and I didnt get a chance to ride together at Vogel, but we did get to make the hot ride home together on the bikes. Its probalby was a good thing we took them off the trailer because when we backed Jamies off the trailer it went through a rotten board right where mine had been sitting. All in all it worked out pretty good, got the car home without a tow truck and we got to ride.
  22. I was just on line looks for a trailer hitch for my RSV and found Mchitch Receiver Style hitchs so I am wondering if anybody has used one of these? Price i'snt to bad at $175. AD doesnt say what shipping will be. it comes in black power coat.
  23. Any recommendations on the best light weight enclosed trailer to haul a venture? Tried an open trailer this past year and the bike was a mess after every trip. Need something that is fibreglass or light weight enclosed with some level of suspension. Lost a few bolts on the bike when hauling it on a trailer with no suspension. Looking at hauling the venture a few thousand miles every year behind a new 4 cylinder SUV
  24. Bought the MCT from a forum member in the spring...I have had the trailer out a couple of times in the last few weeks getting use to it behind the RSV before taking off for South Dakota on the 3rd......Last weekend I noticed the right tire on the trailer was low/almost flat.....Filled it up to 55lbs and this AM noticed it was flat again. These are basically NEW tires...Previous owner never used the trailer...Ran some H2O over the tire and found a small..and I mean small leak in the middle of the tread...pinhole almost...Took it to get it plugged and an inside patch..Did I say me and the wife are L leaving for South Dakota on the 3rd) Question ???...in looking a the tire I noticed that these Stock Tires are 2 ply...I am concerned that if it picked up something this easy on a couple of test drives...Should I go out and invest in some 6 ply tires?.....Can pick up a couple at Tractor Supply for about $90-$100... I do have a spare in case one of the stock tires picks something up during the trip...... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA
