  1. I have received a number of questions lately about the fusebox upgrade I did on my 87'VR last summer so I put together a budget kit for the upgrade. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2033 Any questions, please ask! Earl
  2. What should I buy/not buy?? I will do the steering setup and am considering a 2 tone paint job. Also want the wheel upgrade. What about the hitch? I already have a Diamond R o n the bike. What about leveling links and lowering kit?? Questions, questions...
  3. Hello to all; Purchased Avon Venoms last Sunday evening from SWMoto Tires (internetpurchase), had them in my hands here in NY on Tuesday 3:pm. Cannot say enough about that. Brought them to get mounted/balanced, and a few questions came up from my MotoMechanic. * No clearly marked spot on the tire for the approximate location for the valve stem to be placed(I think signifying the heavy point of the tire?)? * Could not seem to identify the date of manufacturing? (Generally, my mechanic seemed to be somewhat disillusioned about making a tire purchase via the internet. I am also aware that the local dudes do not get a chance to make a few dollars on the sale themselves.) These questions prompted me to make a couple of phone calls to SWMoto Tires. Here is what I just found out, maybe some or all knew this. South West Moto Tires is owned by Arizona Honda - Dealership. Their direct phone number is 1 800 892 2089. The fella I spoke with, his name was Eric. Very helpfull. I had him pull a couple of ties to see what the general date of manufacturing was from the lot of tires on the shelf. The dates he had on the shelf were from week:22 of year:08. I confirmed this information with my mechanic, same as the ones I received. Next question: Is this a normal amount of time which tires are in que before actual use? 2208 is June of 08 to now = 14 months old on the shelf.? Please advise if possible, share your story. Thanks very much for your time and input. It is always appreciated. Till next time, ride safe. If all else fails, look up...smile...and give thanks! Caio4Now. Ricardo.
  4. Ok folks I'm officially a triker now. Today was the day I finished up this long project. Before I describe what I've done I'd like to thank JerryM, Bikenut, and whom ever else I've gleaned info from on trikes. Thanks guys for the info and insight. Second I'd like to thank Tri-Wing from who I bought my trike kit. They are imo a first class company who've answered many of my questions before and after the sale. I also had the chance to see what their customer service was like when I happened to have a leaking air bag. Darlene promptly took matters in hand to resolve the issue. Here's a quick run down on the project. First on the agenda was to remove damaged parts and determine what had to be replaced from my accident back in August. Then it was time to order replacement parts as well as make the decision to convert the ride to a three wheeler. From there it was ordering parts. Over a period of time parts came in so I dived into this project installing the trike frame and preparing the body to my liking. Besides the trike install I also had the trees raked by Steer-Rite, added in a set of Sonic fork springs, and mounted up a set of Flanders pullbacks along with the longer brake & throttle cables. Attached below are a few pics as the project progressed. Enjoy. Any one with questions I'll be happy to pass along whatever knowledge I gain doing this project. Larry PS: I'll post back later here on the results of my road tests. Also get some better quality pics.
  5. Just been thinking that I might also enjoy having a Trike Kit installed on my RSV and would apprediate some honest answers to a few questions that comes to mind. 1. What is the brand of yours? 2. Do you truly like and enjoy it? 3. Is there anything in particular that you dislike about it? 4. Do you feel in control at all times? 5. Do you feel any safer now than you did on 2 wheels? 6. Do you have that Proud feeling, like "Busting your Buttons"? Or just always smiling! 7. Is turning corners on city streets any problems? 8. Is it hard to steer at all? 9. How efficient are the rear brakes? 10. Have you ever tipped it up on 2 wheels? 11. Can you push it backwards fairly easy? 12. How much did it reduce your gas mileage? Man, that's a lot of questions! I hope that I'm not being too inquisitive and I thank you for the answers! Owen.
  6. Help! Took my 83 out last night. BTW MarCarl, she's still running GREAT!! Except I look down and notice that the Temp Gage isn't working. It just sits on the bottom. Now my questions are: is this something to worry about? and how do I fix it? Thanks everyone!
  7. Folks I have put up Wrongways set of pillow top seats from his '04 in the classifieds. I know there are some of you that have been looking for a set and here is one for you. I have them in Michigan at my house, so PM myself or Allan if you have any questions http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2180
  8. I know we have some PGR's here. Can somebody shoot me a PM. I'd like to ask a few questions about the group and membership. Thanks Mike
  9. First off, it seems very strange to be into the 2nd gen tech section!! Any way, I am loking for a good deal on a light bar. Where should I look?? What kind of lights option do I have?? Where should I tie the power from?? Questions, questions...
  10. I have been a rider for over twenty-five years. My wife and I would like to step up our riding and do more longer range trips. Currently I have a Road King Custom but considering the Royal Star Venture. Seems like everyone that has one is totally happy with it. Can anyone answer these questions: 1. What is the chance of a fuel injection version for 2010? 2. Generation I is 1983 thru 1993....What is gen II and is there a III? 3. Is the RPM range at 60mph about 2850? 4. Any riders have any pros or cons about this bike? Thanks for your help
  11. I have a couple of questions before several of us head to the Smokys in June. In reality how often should we be checking the valve adjustment, and is there a tech article for it that I can't locate? Thanks Guys
  12. I spoke to my friend Ed Davis, and I offered to show his stuff for him at MD. He is going to send me an assortment of his products to bring along. If there is anything in particular that you might want to see, give Ed a call or e-mail and it will be at MD for you to try out. He can send what you want either to me or to Don's place. You should direct questions about Ed's products directly to him ((937)271-4077, http://www.edsets.com/ ) BTW, Edsets are not my gig. Mine is in Mic-Mutes. I think that Edsets are the best headsets that you'll find. www.Mic-Mutes.com Bill Morphy
  13. Folks, I get a number of emails from people who have forgotten their passwords, did not receive the confirmation email when they registered, have questions about how to post, etc. I still plan to answer those questions for the most part but over the next few weeks there will be times when I am simply not available to do so. At the bottom of the main forum page, in the blue bar, there is a link that says "Forum Leaders". If you click on that link you will get a list of the moderators here any of which should be able to help you. If one of them does not know the answer to your question, he will get with the others and try to come up with an answer...if that doesn't work...they will make something up. So over the next few weeks, if you contact me and do not get an answer in a reasonable amount of time, you might try contacting one of them. I am placing the link here also. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showgroups.php
  14. Good afternoon! I don't post a ton, but when I get ready for a big trip I always like to come here 'cause I know you folks talk the talk AND walk the walk! I have a 2006 RSTD w/15,000 miles. I've done the oil changes, plug changes, carbtuning etc. I'm leaving sometime around June 19th for a trip from Wichita, Kansas to Fairbanks Alaska and up the haul road to the Arctic Circle and I have a couple of questions for you all. I'm running two 12V outlets on the front of the bike for accessories and a TomTom Rider2 for GPS. Currently, all of these are wired straight to the batter through a 5amp fuse. I've been considering a relay, but it's not broke right now so I'm tempted to leave it be. Good idea or bad? I'm concerned about tires. This looks like a 12,000 mile trip and most of my tires in the past have lasted for less than 7K. I absolutely hate the Avon tires in the rain and I didn't like the stock Bridgestones. Suggestions on a good high mileage tire? To the Darkside perhaps? I'm going to need to purchase some heated gear. What is the amp draw that these bikes can handle. I'm not expecting it to be too cold up there and have thought about killing the carb heaters. Good idea or not? I'm planning on pulling and lubing the back tire when I put on new rubber. I'm going to go over all the bolts with loctite blue for the saddle bags and accessories. I'm going to take of my bubs and put my stock pipes back on. What else should I do? I know that's a lot of questions and I haven't even asked the ones about my route yet! Thanks in advance for your help!
  15. Hey all. I am a mechanical idiot. Now that I have gotten that out of the way....I have 2 questions....a gas question and an oil question. Gas-can anyone tell me the benefit of putting the high test gasoline in? I have had my RSTD since April and the dealer told me to put in the high end gas. Why? Oil-How often do you folks change the oil? Someone will be proud of me...I actually learned how to do it and took care of my bike. I appreciate the wisdom and feedback from the site. Thanks!

  17. Jan's bike was wrecked last summer. I've found a bike on Ebay that we are interested in getting but would like to see if someone could look at it for me. I've emailed the seller with some questions and a request for an address. Anybody help me? Dave
  18. I just recently bought a standard first generation Venture that a previous owner installed a radio and speakers in. The radio is good quality but the speakers might have sounded good at one time but leave a lot to be desired now. Two questions, what is a good reasonably priced speaker to use and how difficult is the job of putting new speakers in the Ventures faring. Thanks in advance for the help and information. Mike
  19. i know you all are getting tired of my 09 up dates, but we have been getting alot of pm's from members asking good questions. so rather than answer each one individually, i thought i would just put their questions and my answers out there for all the members. the latest question is what kind of events do we have scheduled. here is what we have so far. lots of planned and mapped out group rides. biker skill games, vendors on site, plenty of food including a catered final meal followed by a party still in the planning, just added today by yours truly, a 4 hour maintenence morning for the guys to talk tech and work on each others bikes with coffee and donuts. the gals that get up that early can come to. it will be from 6am, to 10 am. one day. this is what we have so far. we are still open for suggestions. please register as soon as possible to help us figure on the attendees, and make it easier for cindy to figure on the tshirts, rosebud on the name tags, and i can keep the hub up to date on how many they will have to provide food for. we are way ahead on planning this meet and i want to keep it that way so we can make it picture perfect. thanks to all the members who have made good suggestions, and offered their help in the planning. what a great bunch of members we have. snarley bill :clap2:
  20. I am about to replace the clutch on my 83VR. Wondering if I could get some input on what type or brand I should be looking at.

Has anyone tried to adapt an FRS system to the RSV? It seems like it would be really simple on the speaker side but coupling to the mike might be a challenge. While trying to troubleshoot my CB last week, I discovered that CB appears to be rapidly going the way of the dinosaurs. I couldn't find anyone with enough knowledge or interest to answer some seemingly simple questions. Components are virtually unavailable, except online, and interest in the subject is minimal. On the other hand the FRS seems to be used fairly extensively, but with handheld units. I guess the main advantages would be a much lower innitial cost, a longer range and much clearer transmission including the possibility of private conversation.
  22. I found a reference on another forum regarding a supplier of Penske shocks for H-D motorcycles. I e-mailed and got a quick response from the owner. He quoted a price of approximately $500 and up, for a replacement shock for the RSV. I am not in the market yet but I recommend anyone considering replacing their rear shock to give this guy a look. He was very responsive to my questions. I would be interested in anyone who goes with a Penske. This is his contact info: Howard G. Messner >> 1-866-899-5962 Toll Free E.S.T. >> [/url]http://motorcyclemetal.com/ Ride on.....
  23. I have a couple of questions. 1. I have a power strip close to the battery that I installed last year. I have the horn relay, alarm, amp, zumo, and a couple of other things. I’m thinking about putting another strip up under the faring. So that I don’t have to pull wires under the tank and to clean up a few things in that area. Anyone else have a power strip up front? 2. I like to ride during the winter and this year I will definitely have some heated gloves and maybe some heated socks. The only thing that really gets cold is my hands and feet. Any suggestions? What power requirements/hook up will I need?
  24. I just purchased a 1988 venture that is in good shape and only has 42K miles on the speedo. I have been browsing this site with great interest picking up as many tips and info as I can find. I do have a few questions, I just checked my gas mileage and I am getting 28 mpg. Is this normal for back road riding where I am running in the 2500-3500 RPM range? I have not been " jumping " on the throttle as I am still getting used to this style of bike. This is a big adjustment from the sport bikes! I also notice a slight " wobble" from the front end when making a slow sharp turn. Is this something the aftermarket fork brace will handle? If so anyone have one for sale? I have the factory service manual for this bike and it calls for 20-40 oil. I am going to change the oil in the near future any recomended oil brand to use? I do notice a bit of noise from the tranny gears when sitting at an idle, Is this normal as well? I am thinking a synthetic oil might be a good choice, your comments? Sorry for all the questions but like I said this is a new style bike for me that is very different from all my previous rides. I really enjoy taking this bike out for a cruise as it is so comfortable and I do get many " what kind of bike is that? questions. Any information that you can provide me with would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Scott
  25. I have a few questions about sidecars. Do they require there own license plate? Do they have there own title? Is it a rider on the insurance or a seperate policy? Do you have parking problems (finding a spot)? Are you more visible to the cagers? How does the hack affect the gas milage? Jeff
