  1. JB - did you get er done? I have my old one out and am just waiting on the big brown truck for my new one. When I took the old switch apart the wafer-like plate where the contacts are was cracked. That may have been part of my problem.

Last night on my way home I saw a 2nd gen VR that was heading North out of Williston,ND. Beautiful scoot,Blue w/wolf murals on the rear of the saddlebags.Just curious if anyone my knows who this was. I believe the scoot was from Canada and the plate read ---nek.
  3. Today was the day... Been working on this thing pretty solid for almost a month. Time flys when yer havin fun.. Anyway, got it off the trailer that had served as my garage. Tried to remember if I had checked everything. Fired it up and took it to the end of the drive(about 200 yds). Well, it was still running, so on to the pavement I went. Cracked the throttle and off it went. WOW! What a feeling. Went about a mile then I remembered.. forgot to put the license plate on. Ooops Did a quick 180 back to the house. Course the registration is with the plate. That's all I would have needed on it's maiden voyage. Again, I want to thank all the people on this site that made it possible. Having never had a Venture before, I really needed the help. I hope that I can pay it back some time. I still have a couple issues but it really felt good to take er out on the road. Wayne
  4. I had previously mentioned having broken the left side trunk latch bracket (the vertical plate that goes into the locking mechanism).. It was a shear break leaving a flat plate of ABS on the metal part.. a clean break. I purchased some ABS cleaner and Adhesive to "weld" the piece back on.. And wow, that worked nicely! It took me longer to read the instructions on the two cans than it did to apply the product and hold it in place for 2 minutes.. Leave it sit for at least 7 hours and presto.. good as new. I actually pulled on it quick hard trying to break it again but it held. I just needed to make sure it wouldn't accidentally come apart at the wrong place and wrong time.. So.. there you go.. it works well. Thanks to all for their sage advice and comments on ABS parts repair. (Side Note: An ABS welding kit would not have worked in this application due to the way the break is located.. Welding requires a flat surface and cutting of a V Groove in order to 'weld' a bead into the v groove. I would not have been able to do this on the upper trunk latch plate.)
  5. Has anyone installed a curved license plate holder on a RSTD? I saw a 2006 with one installed on it but I'm not sure of the correct Kuryakyn number. KY-9198?? Sorry if there's already a thread on this... I couldn't find one using the search engine....
  6. After hearing about passinger floorboard and trunk mads I thought I'd give it a try myself. My wife is tall so the boards needed to go forward and down 3" each, so I cut the hinge of the OEM mount off and welded 1/4" plate to the cut end which added width. I then welded plate to the end to turn down and forward 3". After shaping the angle to match the original piece I cut the "T" end of a Harley floorboard mount and welded it to the bottom of the turned down plate. With that in place I welded gussets for strenght to the front and back angles. After shapping and grinding the edges smooth I chromed the piece and installed Kuryakyn floorboards. For the detachable trunk I took a HD trunk rack piece I got for $10 at a salvage yard and welded it to the OEM RS backrest upright just above the latching mechanism. I then cut out the backrest hoop and filled and shaped the connection. For ragidity and to minamize vibration I welded two angled struts from midpoint of the frame down to an existing attachment point on the rear fender rail. I then installed a HD tour pak painted to match the bike. I would appreciate hearing what you think.

    OK - who are you?

Blue Knights had a meet in W Va this weekend over near blackwater falls. Saw a silver 2nd Gen and thought for sure it was Skid - but - the license plate was from Delaware. Who are you?
  8. I pulled the rear light bar off the 83/84/86, and the license plate bracket had been removed many years ago. Anyone have an 83-85 Mark I bracket laying around I could buy off them??
  9. what kind if any kick stand plate do you use and while on the road where do you keep it?
  10. Looking for any suggestions on this one (see my other thread). I have high vacuum in carb #2 on my 99 RSV. Other carbs are right in line. Idle is fine. Have not had any spark plug issues. Carbs 1, 3, and 4 have 10 in Hg and Carb 2 has 19?? I have gone through the entire synch process again... but I am stumped. I good suggestion was a closed throttle plate on #2 (Thanks Johnh).... and I am wondering if this is the case, how do I adjust the throttle plate on just carb #2??
  11. I am wanting to add some additional lights to the rear of my 05' RSTD. I saw the thread on the Harley license plate light kit for the RSV. Can anybody tell me it this mod will work for my RSTD? Thanks for any input on the subject.
  12. Hello Everyone: Just one question I need to install a new cluch. And I alredy have the oem fiber and steel plates. But what I was wondering is should I get the pcw heavey duty spring or the barnett plate and springs. Which might be better? Thanks in advance Quicksilver
  13. OK. First of all, thanks to everyone providing input my scraping noise and brake issues. With the suggestions received and the manual, I think I may have found more than one problem. Brakes: I think the pistons were sticking and there may have been some air or crud in the lines. I took the calipers off, took the pistons out and cleaned them all up. Hopefully, I will notice a difference when I put them back together and bleed properly. BTW, I'm glad I checked all that because I now think I had little or no back brakes. (Not something I would have noticed gradually because it was obviously like that when I got the bike.) Driveshaft: This baby needed to be cleaned and greased bad. That's all done. Now I am reassembling and I can't figure out where to put the spacer re: the brake torque stopper plate. The spacer fell out during reassembly. This would have been easier if there were two but I only have one. It's about 1/8 " thick. Does it go between the brake stopper plate and the frame or between the plate and the wheel ? Once again, thanks in advance. Ben
  14. Ok, weekend's here. I started looking at my scraping noise (on my '84 Venture). Didn't think it was the brakes but when I put the bike on the double stand, the rear wheel was not turning freely. Could not remove the rear pads so I took the caliper off. Now the pads fell out and I have to say that they look almost new (thickness wise). There was a small metal plate covering about 1/2 the piston on the piston side of each pad. The small plate hooks on to the pad. It has an arrow on it. Can I take the plate off ? If not, which direction does the arrow point (front or back)? Is there an adjustment somewhere to take the pressure off because the pads are always in contact with the rotor and prevent the wheel from turning freely. Thanks in advance.

    NC/SC plate question

Hello, In the state of GA I can buy a vehicle and drive for 30 days with no plate and only supporting documents.. Does anyone know if NC or SC have similar laws? I'll be buying a bike in NC and riding it to GA and need to know if the same applies so I know if I have to get a temp tag or can just ride all the way hoem to GA na dget real plates
  16. Lowering 3" and forward 3" for tall passenger. I cut off the hinge of the yamaha mount and welded 1/4" plate horizontally to add length to clear side pipes. then welded plate at 90deg vertically to drop 3" down and forward. I took the passenger floorboard mount from a HD and cut and welded the floorboard hinge point to the bottom of the vertical plate. I used to HD mount so I can use what ever after market floorboard I choose. I am going to use Kuryakyn. After a dry fit for clearance I will finish the welds and remove the excess mass of the plate by cutting to a more attractive profile. Final step will be to have the piece chromed and mounted. Will add pics after next step.
  17. Squidley, I understand that you sell an adapter plate for mounting the RK mufflers on the RSV headers. What is your pricing ? Is there an advantage to using the plate over using a p-clamp ? Thanks for the advise as well. Robert
  18. G'day everyone I've pulled the engine out of my '83 Venture Royale to replace a blown head gasket. While it's out of the bike I'd like to fit new rings. If I take the sump plate off, can I get at the big-end nuts and remove the pistons or do I have to split the case ? Any advise will help. Jim O'D.....
  19. I have some lights that I am thinking of mounting on the front of the fairing as passing lights I really don't like the look of the bar for a passing light set up and don't want to mount of the deflectors or forks if I can avoid it. I am thinking of doing the following Mounting about 6 to 8 inches outside of headlight centered on the center horizontal plane of the headlight. Drilling necessary hole in fairing with rubber grommet for the hole. Making a small (about 2" x 2") metal plate with matching rubber plate side drilling hole in plates slightly smaller than hole in fairing. Mounting bolt for light through fairing, rubber plate, metal plate, lock washer and nut. Taping into the headlight wiring Thoughts, suggestions, hints cautions???
  20. Has anyone switched from the stock diaphram pressure plate to the Barnett Spring type pressure plate. If you have, did you change clutch discs as well or just the pressure plate? Were the results worth the expense for the conversion????
  21. As most of you may already know I had a little accident with my bike on Oct 12, 2007 after surgery on my ankle. The ortho doc gave me a photo of my ankle with the plate and screws. I hope this won't be too distasteful to see. i have added a couple pics of the bikes damage
  22. What a guy ...Took time of his busy schedule and got me a Chrome licence plate Thanks again
  23. Just came in from working on trailer.I got all the diamond plate panels cut and fitted to the trailer.Got the door frame cut down and resized, the door has two sheets of diamond plate back to back so when the door is opened it will still look finished.I am using two handle and locks that match the trike on the door.Notice the cooler rack that is some alum.grating I picked up at the salvage yard while I was buying the diamond plate.I am also installing a large brake light above the door.Well got to go and clean up the mess in the garage.Jerry M
  24. Hey All: Thought I would post so everyone could check their hard bags for a potential problem....While putting on the bag rails I dropped my allen wrench down between the metal plate in the bottom of the bag and the cloth material going down the side....Big hands, so decided to take the bag lid off....There are four screws that hold this plate on...three across the outside edge and one right in the middle of the bag....When I went to loosen the first one along the outside edge I though it was stripped.....On closer inspection I noticed it was broken...These three screws go into molded holes (stud like-raised about 1/2") as opposed to the one in the center of the bracket....On looking further, I discovered that ALL three molded studs were broken...This plate has never been off before....First attempt....I decided that during the install, (factory) they may have been over torqued...Took to the dealer with the three broken studs (with screws)...He just called and Yamaha is replacing the bag under warranty... Thought you might want to remove the foam thing from the bottom sometime and check these...Basically, the only thing holding on the bag lid was the one screw in the middle of this mount and the material support along the bag and lid sides....This happened on the left bag (from drivers position)....Right bag was OK... George in VA 2006 BC Venture
  25. Does anyone have an extra front plate and damper that hold the windshield at the bottom? (part number 58 & 59) I stopped by the dealer yesterday and Yamaha doesn't show the front plate any longer as being listed. I need one....
