  1. I just noticed a new piece of bling...the open contacts popup link...having no idea what it is but willing to try it anyway, I clicked it and it said that Firefox prevented it from opening. Hmmm...I wonder what this is?
  2. Took the bike to get it inspected. I had worked the horn button a few times and got it working. But at the dealer I couldn't get it to work. I leave the dealer and I can get it to work when the bike is running. I decide to take the bike home and clean the contact points in hopes to get the horn working better. I take the switch control apart and find a lot of dirt in it I clean it with Q tips sprayed with a like windex. I try working the control trying to make the contacts touch but still can't get the switch to . I finish the cleaning and put it all back together all the other controls work fine but the Horn button. I know theres no fuse in the system are there any suggestions as to what i can do next. I can"t figure out why its not working . I know that its a constant feed to the switch and the button simply closes the circuit, If the contacts are touching why wouldn't it be working?
  3. Hello, I finally got my 83 Venture running well enough to ride. Rode to work Saturday. All went well. Got home and went to leave again, Hit the starter button and nothing. No crank, headlight goes out, and gauge lights dim. It will start and run if I jump the starter solinoid contacts. I took my starter switch apart and cleaned the contacts but it made no difference. I found a guide on cleaning the switch by Dingy (old thread from 2009). I noticed that in picture 12, the switch contact pad looks like it is raised. Mine is completely flat/smooth. Would this keep it from making contact? Also, if i flip the kill switch on and off, I can hear a relay switching, so it seems like the kill switch is good. I havent had time to do the tests on the switch yet. I just saw what looked like a possibility. Any thoughts?
  4. I found the problem with the headlight. It is the start button............ Wanted to see if anyone here had one to sell before i look at e-bay........ My starter button has melted around the contacts, never saw that before.
  5. I have intermitant use of my CB since sometimes it will turn on and other times it will not. I am sure that if I open the front remote controller and clean the contacts on the CB switch it will work. Just checking with the real pros!
  6. I have read a couple of posts about cleaning the contacts in the kill switch. Can someone explain how to get at them. I split the housing and see a white block under the red switch, does the red switch pop off the top of the housing and the block pull out to get at the contacts? Thanks..
  7. I let my membership in the Venturers site lapse, and now would like to visit some of the friends I made there, but can't sign back up, keep getting "No input file specified" when I click on most pages. Can't get anywhere to sign up again. I posted about this earlier, and someone offered to contact the management of that site for me but I lost the info. If someone has contacts there and can help with this, let me know. And thanks to VentureRider MGMT for being friendly about my questions about:happy65: this "rival" site. I will always be here, but like to spread the love around!
  8. Subject: Fwd: Fw: [GBRTK9] Fw: Virus coming!! READ ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus! I checked Snopes, and it is for real. Get this E-mail message sent around to all your contacts ASAP. PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS! You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK,'regardles s of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C drive of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address on his/her contact list. That is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it! If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even if it is sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept. COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US
  9. When I bought my 1999 RSV in September, the PTT Switch on the grip did not key the CB. I finally got around to taking the switch housing apart and checking it. It is a simple two conductor contact switch. I shorted the contacts across and it keyed the CB, so I knew the the switch must be bad. After closer inspection it was just contacts that close together when you pull the switch. Used little emory cloth and cleaned the contacts up. Now it works every time. Can you hear me now?
  10. For those who have followed the perils of the missing parts, I'm ready to write the final chapter. A very quick recap: Took the paintable parts off of my 99 RSV and took them to Wizard of Wheels in Crete IL to have them painted white. This was in June of 2008. The dealer parted out the job and the painter absconded with my parts! Ultimately, I got back a few of the parts, but not enough to be able to ride the bike. So, for more than a year, the bike has been on a lift in my garage. I have filed with the BBB and they were very sorry, but the dealer refused to respond and they have no authority to do anything about it. I've had numerous contacts with Yamaha Corp in California, but they are not willing to help at all. They won't even allow me to buy replacement parts at cost and insist that I go through another dealer. So, enough is enough. I'll sell my '99 to the first person who comes with $2500 in cash or money order. I have a lot of chrome and extras like passenger hwy pegs and armrests. The bike was in perfect running order as I had it maintained regularly prior to this fiasco. I'll post some pictures of the bike and the parts I have. chuck
  11. Is there a trick to getting the zumo to pick up the contacts from my phone? I have deleted the connections several times and can not get the contacts or the call history to work on the zumo. On 2 occasions after parking the bike, removing the zumo and coming inside the house I noticed a message on the phone saying the zumo wants to download my contacts, but I can not get it to do this while i am actually trying. Thanks, Jim
  12. After not riding for 25 years I purchased another Royale. Having to do some work on it to get things back to where i'd like them. Here's one. After replacing the speakers I discovered the cassette deck still works fine. It just needs a little nudge in FF to get it to play. I would like to find the cover that goes over it if someone has it. The radio took a little more work, after cleaning the contacts I now have a radio that works without having to hit it. I do still have some minor issues; I am getting static from the speakers with the bike in gear from idle up to about 2500RPM (not sure since it is hard to tell when driving). Also get feedback from the speakers when I turn on the ignition switch, it's like the hissing you used to get when a (tv)station went of the air but much softer. Any suggestions? I took the two button remote apart to see what I could see. It now works as well. One minor problem, I had three springs roll out of it; two to hold the metal balls for the contacts and one slightly longer, thinner one. No clue where that fits, but no biggie since the remote works. Just curious! Lastly, since I cleaned the contacts and got the radio to work it seems that i've had more E4 errors. Coincidence or are they connected some way.
  13. Today. my signal lights quit working. I am real good about using my signal lights, so this was a big aggravation. When I got home, I pulled out my repair book and read up on the lights. I seemed to have power where I was supposed to so it looked like my relay was bad. When I pulled it out, I noticed it had a cover on it that could easily be disassembled. I took it apart and checked continuity and found a contact was not giving a good reading. I took a small piece of sand paper and doubled it over and rubbed it between the contacts. I plugged it back up and it is working fine. I have attached some pictures and you can see the contacts. RandyA
  14. I've done my reading on the CLASS repairs, and after hitting one helluva bump in a construction zone a couple weeks ago, it appears I'm going to have to use the techniques, but I have a couple questions. First, until the bump, it was working great, no E1 or E4 codes. After the bump, an E1 that can be corrected with the plug technique. However, after riding for a while, and the associated vibrations, sometimes it'll keep working, sometimes not. I read about heating up the contacts with a solder gun? Which contacts, how do you get them out of the plug, if necessary? Do I have to go in to resolder any cracks if the plug technique is working to make it work? Thanks guys, Joe
  15. JB - did you get er done? I have my old one out and am just waiting on the big brown truck for my new one. When I took the old switch apart the wafer-like plate where the contacts are was cracked. That may have been part of my problem.
  16. my 84 venture did not come with original stereo, but i recently bought one but it did not come with the wiring harness to hook up the speakers and power. can someone tell me where to get one or show me what wires do what? the plug coming off the amp has 9 contacts in a 4-1-4 pattern. this radio is from an 83. i have checked the yamaha parts fiche and the radios are the same for both. thanks
  17. My headlight burns fine on high but is very dim on low beam. I tried a new bulb but it didn't help. Any ideas? Some have suggested the contacts in the switch may be bad. Can this switch be opened to clean the contacts? Any other ideas? Ronnie 83 Venture Standard:depressed::confused07::confused07:
