1. I'm talking about the lower engine covers that are painted all black where the top ones have the aluminum (material?) showing at the edge. I am debating whether or not I should do this, as it is a quick and simple mod that's free. I would just like to see some pictures of the whole bike, not just an up close of the engine. Anyone have any pics they'd care to share? Thanks!
2. Hello Folks, I am assuming from the picture I have attached that the previous owner must have done the grease zerk mod for the drive shaft. However I have know idea what type of grease to use. Also can someone tell me if the shim that the red arrow is pointing to in picture is stock for my 85 VR or is this some kind of MOD as well. Thank you
3. Before installing the needle shim mod my mileage was somewhere right around 32 mpg. That mileage was determined by filling my tank nearly to the brim, riding at 70 - 75 mph and until my fuel warning light came on; filled up to the brim again, and did it all again; four times. So, I've had these shaved down vinyl shims, purchased here on this site, for some time and decided just tonight to install them. It's done! Heck I am not even sure how much difference there is between the new shims and the stock one. I know stock is .112 in. At idle, of course there would be no difference. Initially it does not seem to rev as quickly as it did before the mod; seems to be too lean now, stutters and bawgs some. Inserting three fingers in the air intate improves its ability to rev. Anyway, I will take it out on the road and run a few tanks through it and report back how this mod affects its mileage and performance. Hope this was worth the time involved working in a garage at 105 degrees. Oh, all the evaluating will be minus the plastic just in case I have to go back to stock.
4. so i was going to do the needle/shim mod @ a year ago and ran into the same prob as 84xj, i just put it back together stock and forgot about it. yesterday i thought id try again and went and got the washers from ace and same problem, the needles had no play in and out, a little side to side but none in and out. i remembered this post and searched for it. my needles do not have any adjustment?!? so looked a little closer and discovered the prob/solution. not all washers will have the exact OD measurement and sure enough the ones from my local ace are too big. i think the area inside the slider that the needle/ clip/ washers fit into is tapered and so it all seems to fit fine at first but when you start to tighten it down there is not enough room for the washers to seat proper. I could feel it when tightening, but was unsure why. i went back and found nylon washers 1 the same thickness as two stainless washers but with an OD just a bit smaller and all works perfect. now there is free play in and out like stock. I did try and slide the slides into the carbs with the stainless washers and i could feel the needles rubbing in and out. dont want to cause alarm but if you dont know if there was free play with the needles id check. and i bet Eds washers are spot on so the carb mod kit he sells would be worth it. attached pic is of a stainless washer STUCK inside the slide. im gonna go for a ride this weekend and enjoy checking the fuel mileage. 5. Can anyone inform me about the Needle Shim Mod for a 1300 First Gen?
6. Just completed the carb mod to increase gas mileage on my 86 Venture. The mod from this site (with pics I may add) says to remove the white fiber/plastic spacer and replace with x2 m4 washers. Here's the lead in to the question.....when I removed the "slider"..the needle itself had some "play" to it...you could push it in a little and feel the tension of the spring. After the mod....that movement/free play is pretty much gone. Is this normal???
7. Anyone out there with a Midnight drivers seat who is looking to have Rick Bulter do his seat mod let me know as I'll trade you even up. While the Mrs loves her seat mod Rick did to the passenger seat I've found that I really prefered the firmer original drivers seat. My bike has the studs on the seats so will require the same when trading. Thanks, Larry
8. Does anybody offer a MP3 jack mod for the mitusubishi radio? Sierra Electronics does one for the Goldwing radio.
9. Finally got out on the scoot after several upgrades. the Carb mod with the needle spacer adjustment netted me 12mpg more, averaged 42mpg at regular cruising speed. I also installed the 420 Progressive shock in the back end...wow what a difference on the ride, still waiting for the front spring set to come in, can't wait till I put those in.....A huge thank you to all of you that have posted tips etc on mods and upgrades.. 10. I ran across this neat little idea on Delphi Forums (DIY Cruiser Forum) and thought it was an easy and inexpensive way to possibly enhance our visual presence on the road. The Radio Shack part cost 2.39 each and was the only cost associated with this modification. Here is the link that contains the pdf instructions for performing this mod. I do not know if you have to be a delphi forum member to read their posts, but if you have any problems accessing it, let me know and I will see about posting the copy I downloaded. Attached are several pix of the mod on MyPalomino. http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=DIYCruisers&msg=11.1

CB woes

Is there a fuse for the CB? The reason I ask is because my CB light will not come on. I have had this bike for 3 yrs. and the CB has never worked. In the past the light has always come on but I never could get past the the "CB-err". It never bothered me because I never used it. Now it does bother me. I just did the Marshall Mod and the dang thing will not even come on. I found in the manual there is an "audio" fuse but the radio works so it can't be that fuse. Any ideas?
12. Next project for the bike: Sky Doc's R1 Caliper mod and SS brake lines all around. Maybe some more rear lighting too. Still plan on doing the Butt Butler mod as well. Dan's also working on another accessory. It never ends!! :mo money:
13. Thanks to the excellent instructions that Ponch provided with the set of gauges he sent me, I was able to successfully get them installed this weekend. I still need to finish getting everything together, but I did get the bike started and was able to test for leaks. I would have never attempted this mod without the encouragement and knowledge I receive here. This was a big job for me. I think the chrome looks great against the unique color of the millenium. Thanks again Ponch!
14. OK...I bought my brand new Venture on December 11th, 2009. I have worked on it all winter, and I have to tell you that I think I am DONE. That's right, I think I am done with it except for riding it. Since I bought the bike, I have added the following (and mods). Trunk Luggage Rack Lowering Links and Damper Mod Audio Wiring Mod (for Garmin Zumo 660) 1 1/2" Risers Stebel Horn Temp and Clock Gauges (clocks4bikes.com) TLC Liner Bags for Trunk and Saddlebags Garage Door Opener (ignition cowling) Mod Stealth Key Mod Butler Butt Mod Butler Seat Mod Butler Saddlebag Nuts Yamaha Luggage Rack Bag (Brand new and will be selling this). Kuryakyn 4142 Roll Bag (why I am selling the Yamaha bag) Grifter Storage License Plate Holder (very handy!) Scorpion Helmets (2) with Edset's Comm Package So, that's about it. Yes, I still have a pending Lightbar install (waiting on mounting brackets), but having seconds thoughts on those... The ONLY other items I can think of are Saddlebag Rails and maybe highway pegs...UNLESS someone fabricates a VIABLE and EASY REPLACEMENT for the cassette deck. What ELSE is there?
15. I installed the Road King pipes on my 06 RSTD about a month ago. Like many others, I quickly realized they didn't make much of a difference in the sound level. So I did the first modification of drilling the four holes in the forward baffle plates. That did make a bit of a difference and they do sound quite nice at idle or when I wind her up. But they still aren't quite loud enough for me. I have been debating about drilling out the rear baffle plate with the hole saw (mod # 2), but realize that if I do and my neighbours start circulating petitions up and down our street my only option will be to go back to the OEM pipes and start searching on ebay again. What can I say, I'm a considerate person. I would like to hear from anyone who has gone from the first mod to the second mod to get an idea if this makes a significant difference in the sound level while the bike is warming up at idle in your driveway, and if the noise level is high enough to become irritating on long trips before I start cutting.
16. I've started the mod to my 06 RSTD, in about 1 week it should be completed.. I have all the parts needed to install the Venture tour pak and seats to transform it into a Tour DeVenture..... If anyone is looking for the following please email me 3 piece Mustang seat w/ driver’s backrest (offset bracket to sit back further) Luggage rack for passenger backrest Removable Tour Pac bracket with tour pak and LED light
17. So as you might know I just got my 03 RSV and it now has stock exhaust I wanted to get it a bit louder but not real loud. Has anyone do any type mod to there exhaust. I got a pair of Sampsom Fishtails with the bike but was told they are LOUD!!!!

19. Decided to take a week off and take my little guy Josh to the beach. This is my first official trip on my new to me kawasaki voyager that I bought from wanderer.I ordered the hitch and the modulite and had them before I picked up the bike so I guess that would be my first mod on the bike.Took a few pics enjoy!
20. Hi everyone, the Landpig here, well I would like purchase some new shoes for my Pig, an just checked SoutwestMOto whom I purchased my smaller front tyre mod two years ago. They have it, but don't have the 150/90B16 rear on they're webiste. Has Avon changed the tyre code??
21. I have an 05 RSV. I sent both seats to Rick for the mod. Got them back and rode to Chimney Rock, NC and back. I love my seat after the mod. Can ride all day and don't get the burning in my tailbone. My wife says she likes the stock seat better. Nothing against Rick, he does excellent work. I guess my wife, ah em, how can I say this, has a wider load and said the stock seat is better for her. Would anyone like to swap even a stock pillow passenger seat for one with the butler mod? Our passenger seat is in excellent condition. Contact me if you would like to swap. Thanks.
22. I had the Butler seat mod done on my seat and cannot seem to get used to it. I'm sure it's just me ,since ALOT of other people LOVE the mod!!
