  1. Yes I know its been pounded like a nail but i wanted to let everyone know that i am know making and selling these kits, with hardware, minus the clamps for $40 shipped on eBay out of ALUMINUM! LINK : CLICKY CLICK CLICK I know this is a popular mod for you guys, and i did it on my bike, and i am impressed by the sound. I have been trying to fill the gaps between jobs and college by scrapping metal and fabricating truck racks, and i thought this might be a good opportunity for me. I put my best work into these, and sell them as if they were going on my bike. Thanks for taking the time.
  2. I saw a post about this from a few years ago. Just wondering if anyone has done a full on stage one upgrade? The baron big air kit lets it breath and give you more fuel and a full exhaust upgrade (2") will finish it off. http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/254/index.html
  3. Ok I searched and did not find my answer. So I am guessing this is going to be a dumb question. I am going to order a Carbtune Kit. There are different size plugs available, which ones do I choose? Thanks, Shane
  4. After owning my 83 VR for year I'm finally getting round to fixing a few of the niggles including the second gear (currently in the process of removing the engine - gratefully assisted by all the articles on this site.) I have question on the Second Gear kit for those that have used it before I order it - Does it contain anything more than the four parts listed? I ask as the cost of the four individual parts appears to be less (a lot less in some places) than the kit, so is there something extra? As an aside I tried the Battery Sensor fix and couldn't get it to work with the 1K, 2.2K or variable resistors, so I disabled it directly on the CMS circuit board by breaking the relevant circuit and using a pull down resistor. I can take pictures if anyone is interested. Also I had a fun issue with the flashers (or indicators for any of us Brits) - they only worked when turned to the left. Turned out the Hazard Switch had some loose contacts than only made contact depending on gravity. Great site BTW with lots of useful information.
  5. I hope the pics of my trike come thru.07 rsv with hannigan kit 380 miles
  6. Anyone need a jet kit for early 2nd Gen? there is one posted on the Yamaha Motorcycle forum http://www.yamahamotorcycleforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21369
  7. I have a 99 Venture that the rear is lowered with a Barons kit. I`m lowering the front with a Barons kit that come with springs ( progressive I believe) and Race tech gold emulators. Kit # BA-7503rs From what I understood in a conversatoin with Barons tech line the kit was sold for a Road Star least to begin with. My question is Might the gold emulators be adjusted a little tighter to account for the Ventures heavier front end. ( Fairing is the main thought) The other question is Would more spring pre load be a good idea in this. Thanks for your time WP50
  8. Been meaning to post this but been tied up as of late. Last weekend I had tightened my steering head bearings and removed the bars to get better access to the nut. I believe in the process I may have pull the little tube on the balance kit a little and when I took it to work the next day, the tube on the right fork came loose. I noticed this because I had some fork oil running down the fork. I didn't notice any adverse handling, and I am assuming that this because when the tube came off, the forks "balanced" out to 0 PSI. However, what does concerns me is that I lost some of the fork oil. How much "loss" should I be concerned with? Doesn't look like I lost a whole lot, but it is kinda hard to tell as oil, as most of you know, seems to spread easily Also, do I absolutely need the little white thing that slips over the tube and the nipple, as it seems to have disappeared, and would a small zip tie work as a decent replacement, if needed? Thanks in advance
  9. I bought my 08 with a lowering kit in the rear, front is still stock height. Thanks to a member (Big Tom) I now have the stock dog bones to put it back to stock. I can flat foot it with the kit in it know but I was thinking the ride may be better 2 up if I go back but I'm not sure of the footing. I plan on doing a butler seat mod as well and maybe lower the front? so that may help also going back to stock height. I'm wondering what kind of project it would be? Any thoughts or tips would be great, Thanks
  10. since i have lost 235 pounds ( i think 175 pounds were muscle) i am having trouble handling my venture.. it seem to have gained 400 pounds.. so i have decided to build a trike kit similar to the voyager trike kit.. being as money is the issue.. so i called my insurance man, and got the ok from him, that it is ok... so i have started my prototype.. so far this is where i am at.. if anyone with avoyager kit could send me pictures of how it hooks up to the rear of the bike, and the setup on the voyager frame that would help..
  11. with the help of the fantastic write-up by v7goose, everything went great and nary a leak! Did find I was able to remove the rear valve cover by sliding it back, after removing the side and middle battery covers. Used dingy's xcel sheets, and was able to reuse a few shims because of it. Also transferred all hand data to new sheet and saved as new file, so I have a record of what shims are in now. Buddyrich came through big-time, lending me the shim kit/tool. Put all my 272's and other odd ones in kit, but wanted to replenish the ever popular 270's. Went to http://www.albaaction.com , and talked to Paul there. They're no longer doing a 'shim swap', but asked him about Sudco since the Yammi's were so expensive. He called back and is now set up with Sudco, so I ordered some at $6.75ea. Will add them to the kit before I send it back. Thanks again to these members and this great site!! Between the valve adj and sync'ing the carbs, she's a new (scarry fast) ride, and good for another 50K miles.
  12. I've read all the posts I could find and never did find a clear answer so here goes. I have a 2005 RSTD and for height reasons I'm getting a barons rear lowering kit put on in the next week or 2. I've read about the adverse effects but am going ahead with it. The bike already stands fairly straight up on the kickstand with the stock suspension and zero air in the rear shock. My concern is that by lowering the back, the bike will stand even more straight up on the kickstand. When I expressed my concern to the dealer he showed me the barons kit and said that a particular piece in the kit would compensate for this. I emailed barons and unfortunately the person either wasn't up on this subject or was just trying to get rid of me because he gave me a part number for a road star kickstand. So has anybody lowered their RSTD with a barons kit without altering the kickstand??? I know that I can buy a kickstand from an earlier royal star and it's 11 1/4" long which is about 2" shorter than mine but I'm not sure if it's needed. thanks for all your help Greg
  13. I just finished installing a new spring in my 1986 VR, using the kit from Sky Doc. First off, let me tell you that Sky Doc backs his stuff up with patience and understanding at a very high level. He put up with my nonsense (a result of not knowing what the H**L I was doing!) and more or less held my hand until the fog cleared and I saw what I was supposed to do! Now my VR hooks up like a VENTURE...a new one, that is! I was having slipping problems in higher gears and then after the first installation, I managed to have it in EVERY gear (Does that tell you how little I know about motorcycle mechanics?) But after Sky Doc and I talked quite a few times, he finally got through to my thick head and now the bike runs like it should. Other problems still exist, but it is nice to know when someone really follows through with his products like Sky Doc!!!!
  14. Hey All, I have been in contact with EBC and they have admitted that they have shipped me Sub-Standard Diaphragm Clutch Springs that I used in my Clutch Spring Upgrade Kits. It seems we ordered so many springs in such a short time that the were forced to activate a second supplier, and that supplier used the wrong thickness of material for the Diaphragm Clutch Spring. EBC is going to replace EVERY defective Spring. Here are the two options I can offer you at this point: Option one is to Double up you old Clutch Diaphragm Spring and the new one that came with the kit and this will solve the clutch slippage problem once and for all. If this makes the "pull" on the clutch lever too heavy for you to handle, I understand that completely! I would suggest you use option two. Option two would be for you to mail the Clutch Diaphragm Spring ONLY, (remove it from the plastic package and put it in a mailer envelope) back to me, here is my address: Earl Harrell 115 Colony Court Duncansville, Pa. 16635 Here is the "rub" with option two, EVERY Diaphragm Spring that EBC has in stock right now is Sub-Standard, Which means that they will need to make another production run of NEW springs with the proper thickness of material. This is not going to happen overnight! So if your bike is down, you may want to double up on the spring for now, and when the new, correct springs start to arrive, I will post again, and you can swap out the doubled spring for the new, proper thickness spring. Any one that has paid and not received a kit will receive their kit with the new, proper thickness Clutch Diaphragm Spring as soon as the new springs arrive. I am very sorry for this problem, I don't make these springs myself and while I verified the part number for all of the springs I shipped, I didn't measure EVERY spring I sold. I can assure you, I will be measuring EVERY ONE from now on! When the Quality level of the Diaphragm Springs has returned, I will repost the Ads in the Classifieds for the MKII VR and Second Gen. RSV and RSTD kits again. The MKI kit uses a set of 6 compression springs instead of a single Diaphragm spring and there is nothing wrong with the MKI kit. Thanks for your patience, and Again, I apologize for this hassle. Earl
  15. Been working this all winter. Danos engage clutch mod, Shydocs Clutch upgrade and drain kit, LED running lights, Sheep skin backrest cover, 4 brush starter, repaired or rebuilt EVERY cracked tab, epoxied the fuel tank, new brake pads, added chrome panels to side covers, 4 1/2" driving lights with amber lenses, did interior of trunk...........ah there too much to list! Anyway I got some miles tonight. Felt real good. Yes it did. Gonna be a good summer. Thanks to all the guys that provided upgrade, kits, parts and advice for me during this project. And thanks to Dingy for his tools. The clutch upgrade kit was a huge improvement. Rolling down the Interstate at 75 mph and give it a twist and it's just jumps right on up there. No more slip. Nada.
  16. Whats in the tool kit?
  17. Is anyone using the Tow-Pac Trike Kit. I have been considering this kit but I am still on the fence. My knees are shot and I need some help holding the Venture up at stops. Thanks.
  18. To EVERYONE that Just Received A Second Gen. Clutch Spring Upgrade Kit! It has been brought to my attention that the Clutch Diaphragm Spring in the Second Gen. Clutch Spring Upgrade Kit is thinner and produces less clutch gripping pressure that the stock spring. Because this Diaphragm comes in a sealed package, I did not think to open one up until I was notified. IT IS IN FACT THINNER THAT THE STOCK SPRING, and is not the spring that has been shipped in earlier batches of the kit. I received 29 of these springs and suspect that the last batch has been packaged incorrectly. If you have not installed the upgrade kit yet, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL THIS KIT UNLESS YOU CAN MEASURE THE THICKNESS WHICH SHOULD BE .070". If the spring is measuring .055 to .060" thick DO NOT INSTALL THIS KIT. Because it is the weekend, I can't get in touch with the vendor who supplied this part but you better believe that come Monday morning I will be bending his ear about this issue. For any one that has done the install already, I will furnish a replacement spring and new clutch cover gasket with shipping at my cost for your trouble. In the future I will open and measure EVERY spring that I receive before it is shipped. I apologize for this problem and will do all I can to take care of it as soon as possible. Another short term "fix" is to Double your old and the new Clutch Diaphragm Spring until I can get more springs that are the correct thickness. I have REMOVED the Ads from the classifieds until this issue is resolved and like I said earlier in this post I will measure every spring before I ship it from now on. Again, I apologize, Earl
  19. So, after the stealership went through the carbs, the bike runs OUTSTANDING once again... I took it home, went for a ride... Rode to work, and sure enough... The clutch is slipping. The clutch holds fine when I ride it like a Harley, but when I open it up to where she belongs, that's when the slippage occurs. I never pull a trailer, and don't carry much of a load. We do ride 2-Up, but the wife isn't even 120lbs. I've read through all of the forums on the PCW Clutch kit, I believe that's the 'way to go' with the VMax springs (correct me if I'm wrong) and from what I gather the kit is under $100. Well, with the recently acquired Vet bills, spending anywhere near $100 is a No-Go, at least until next month, and with this weekend forecast sitting at 76 degrees & sunny, I'll be hard pressed to take the cage anywhere. Not to sound like an idiot, but is it safe to assume there's not 'adjustment' to the clutch, and if I keep riding while it's slipping, it'll cause more problems for later? If anyone HAS a clutch kit that'll work in my 97 RSTC and needs some computer work done, maybe we can work something out? Then again, I'm sure a clutch kit isn't something that people have just laying around. Err. ***See how sad Murphy looks when Daddy can't go riding?
  20. Hello, My wife just bought a 2006 Yamaha 650 v-star Silverado. However the bike is just a little to tall for her. I was wondering if any of you have installed a lowering kit on these bikes? If so, could you please explain the proceedure. I'm pretty good with mechanical repair and would like to do this myself. Thanks for the advice! Frank
  21. Hi, I did a seach of side stands and mostly found " checking you oil' and "center stands" Anyway, I have lowered my bike with the barons rear kit and lowered the front. I have found a side stand kit after lowering my new Kaw. Versys and want to try it on my Venture. How much should I cut off or what should be the total length of the stand when shortened. I am willing to start with a little cut off and work my way shorter but it would help where to start ? thank you Cb
  22. Can someone answer and help me with the PCW Clutch Kit Install. I started the job and where there is that wire that holds the metal plate and fiber disc a smaller OD type washer. In the very back it looks like just a smooth machined surface but also maybe a larger OD type washer. The instruction blew over into some old oil and can't read them. Help me from where I'm at please. Thanks

  24. Looking for a little help. I am going to upgrde the clutch on my 02 RSV with an used Barnett spring I got at a good price( $62 for the whole clutch basket assy with the Barnett kit) I was going to do the PCW Racing kit as it was cheaper untill I found this deal. Ive read a lot here about the PCW kit and understand that they are replacing the rear half disc for a full friction disc. So my question is are the guys that are using the Barnett kit doing the same thing? I dont recall ever seeing anything about that with the Barnett although I cant see where it would hurt, but matbe it isnt nessesary. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin
  25. Thomas Liquid Stainless Steel My buddy ordered the kit he's going to try it on his black plastic parts on his scoot http://www.liquidstainlesssteel.com/learnhow.html
