  1. Just did what looks like a 2 minute job in my owners manual. After about 15 minutes of what the %^$#! I came to this board. Thanks to all who posted before and thanks for the proceedure for cracking the fairing. Next time I will get a person with little tiny doll hands to help!! Thanks again. Steve
  2. I have been reading several threads on exhaust poping on deceleration. I have had the problem since I bought the bike over two years ago. It seems to have gotten worse over the last few months, so I think I've decided to try to fix it once and for all. I have already run a can of Seafoam through the carbs over the last 2 tanks of gas. This has usually helped but never eliminated all the poping. This time it didn't seem to do much at all. I have checked for exhaust leaks and found none. I have done a carb sync with no change. My next step based on my reading is to clean/adjust the Pilot Jets. I have found several threads explaining in detail the proceedure. I am confident I can do the job except for one thing. I have a 96 RSTD and the carbs are different from the ones discribed for newer Ventures and RSTDs. The adjustment doen't look like it's accessable from the outside of the float bowl. I don't see anywhere there is a "brass cap" to remove to gain access for the adjustment. In the thread it says I should find it next to or near the float drain. I don't seem to see anything. At the YamahaPartsHouse.com site there is a parts breakdown that shows the difference when you look at a 96 compared to an 07 carb. The carbs on the 96 through 2000 look to be the same. Can someone help me with the proceedure and or location of the access.
  3. Hello, My wife just bought a 2006 Yamaha 650 v-star Silverado. However the bike is just a little to tall for her. I was wondering if any of you have installed a lowering kit on these bikes? If so, could you please explain the proceedure. I'm pretty good with mechanical repair and would like to do this myself. Thanks for the advice! Frank
  4. Ok,ok.. It's probably a stupid question, but as I have said before, I have electrical knowledge and not much mechanical, so I would rather ask a dumb question than risk messing something up. I just went thru the seafoam proceedure and do not wish to start the bike up until I put a new filter in it, but after locating that filter I see that I cannot even get a finger in there, let alone tools to get it removed/replaced. The metal band around the current filter seems to be bolted from underneath and the fuel line (towards the engine) looks like it would be lost, or at least very difficult to retrieve if it slips down into the abyss. Can someone please give me an easy step-by-step fuel filter removal proceedure? Is removing this a delicate surgery with long needle nose pliers and lots of swear words part of the deal? Thanks Muchly... Johnnie
