  1. I need some advice! My 2006 Venture has become hard starting when cold. I also notice that I don't hear the fuel pump when turning the key on. Once started it runs fine. Is there anyone out there who has had the problem or knows of a solution, or is it back to the shop for me? Thanks, Kenw
  2. The sound system on my 2007 Venture squeals when only the front headset is plugged in. When both front and rear are plugged in everything works fine. Tried switching helmets but still squeals. Worked fine up until today. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this would happen? Thanks in advance.
  3. I have a 1983 XS650 that will start fine using the enricher however the enricher does not seem to increase RPM the way it should, anyway the only way to keep the engine running until the motor is hot is to increase the idle speed by turning in the idle stop screw about 1 to 1.5 turns, eventually when you blip the throttle the motor will start to free wind on its own, when this happens you can turn the idle stop screw back out the 1 to 1.5 turns and the engine will idle fine and the bike will operate fine until you go to restart it again when it has gotten cold. The carbs were not on the bike when I got it ( they were apart in a box ) The carbs have been rebuilt, the diaphragms are all good an the intake adapters are new, I have had my Carbtune on it and all checks out fine, the mixture screws are set at 13/4 out from seat + or - a little, the air boxes are sealed, I can't think of anything else except. HELP PLEASE .
  4. I'm on a 07 Midnight Venture, I have a Sirus radio hooked up throught a casset adapter, it cuts out at about 78-80 MPH, the radio comes up and says no signal and when I drop back to about 75 it comes back on, the rest of the system is fine, has anyone experienced such a thing?? Thanks in advance for any info. Love the forum John Pensacola FL
  5. The man who is going to paint MamaMo's 99 took one look at it this evening and said Blue & White. I slipped him a twenty ahhhhhh I mean thanked him for his opinion and left on the scoot. He and MamaMo were standing outside arguing about PINK when I left. Stay tuned for Harley riders knows best or MamaMo gets her way??? I think Blue and White is fine fine fine. Even if it is a REDNECK color.
  6. hey dooder ,did you get close to that tornado down there? hope you and doodette are okay. how about every one else, hope all of our members are fine? bill

IF SO, GIVE ME A HOLLER SO WE CAN HOOK UP IF I GET THE TIME OFF. TATERS AND I WILL BE HEADING DOWN TO GETTYSBURG, PA AROUND THE 8TH OR 9TH. NO DEFFINATE PLANS. 8. I just purchased a used 2000 Venture with the audio system. When the ignition switch is in the "acc" position, the audio system works fine. But when I turn the key to the "on" position, the audio system turns off, but the bike runs fine. Anyone had this problem and if so, what was the fix??
  9. Has anyone had any luck trying to shorten their XM antenna wire? Mine was broken in the accident so I figured I had nothing to lose by cutting it shorter and trying to reconnect but it didn't work out for me. Man that is some fine work for these old eyes. I soldered the main wire in the center, covered it with liquid tape, pulled the shielding back over that and soldered it, then used shrink wrap over the whole splice.
  10. Lately I've been noticing sort of a glitch in the throttle when slowly cruising in low gears... 1st or 2nd..., without a load on the motor. The throttle is either on or off, and it makes it kinda tuff to maintain a steady speed. As long as I keep a load on the motor in say 3rd or 4th it responds fine, except the R's are way down. When in the lower gears if I let off on the throttle just a bit it's like I've rolled it completely off. It's getting herky jerky in street traffic.... The bike idles fine, and excellerates fine, and seems to have plenty of power, but the H&J is getting to be anoying. Out on the highway it seems to work fine at say 4200 in 5th. I also noticed a big drop in my fuel milage. Got 50+ during the ride to VWIII, but 38mpg to Fort Collins and up to now.. Any thoughts????
  11. I just purchased a used 2000 Venture with the audio system. When the ignition switch is in the "acc" position, the audio system works fine. But when I turn the key to the "on" position, the audio system turns off, but the bike runs fine. Anyone had this problem and if so, what was the fix??
  12. when i hit my horn the front one doesnt sound like its activating fullalso i can see that it draws my headlamp down. the bottom right one seems to working fine. whats going on?
  13. Ok, Here we are again, had the carbs off and cleaned them up good, but did notice the diaphagms are pretty much shot, so I am looking around the net and come up with a price of $57.00 each, does this sound right?? Holy **** that is about $240.00 plus shipping. Guess I know where my Christmas money is going So this is what is going on, the bike starts right up, idles fine, but when you go to rev it up, it falls flat on its face and sputtures, does this sound about right for a diaghagms issue Ok, guys let me have it, I need all the help I can get....... Thanks in advance
  14. I have been noticing a smell of gas after "getting on" the throttle. I don't notice this unless I really wind the bike out. Bike runs fine. Where should I start, a carb sync? Thanks.... Fred
  15. Well, Fired up the 06 venture today and have a pretty heavy fuel leak coming from the front of the bike of all places. haven't taken the tank off yet but at this point its leaking from the bottom of the cowling around the radiator. when I shut the fuel off it stops. Bike seems to run fine but as soon as I turn the fuel back on she starts pouring out. First thought was stuck float pin but if that was the case wouldn't I see fuel coming from the overflow tubes? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. John
  16. Today I went out for a ride and stopped by a Yammy dealer. I sat on a 08 and the bike seamed smaller to me then my 02. But that aside the seat seamed like it was wider and a little taller (fit my large posterior just fine) and the bike seamed to set lower. I thought this phenomenon a little odd, but the seat was comfy. Any of you notice this or am I just the only one???.........Ron
  17. i was working out some of my other issues when i noticed that my heel toe shifter was working in reverse:rotf: this really is not funny i know because i think i already know what i have to do to fix. I took my stator case off to clean and polish, also to replace gasket and seal . I think what i done wrong was put it back together with shift linkage upside down, or is it possible that the external linkage just needs to be flipped? I am still hard at all the other work you fine people gave me to do:stirthepot: I will keep you posted cas things progress if i can stop doing things twice. Again thanks to all for your overwelming response kurt
  18. Hey All, I'm starting to get down to the short strokes on the insurance settlement with the bike. I need 2 items for the bike to ship it when the offer is made and the deal is done. I'm sending off the wheel and tire for examination, so if anyone has a spare rim from a trike project that I could buy, that would be a godsend. The other is the black plastic cover that goes over the ignition on the front of the tank. If you have an old crappy one that you replaced or whatnot that would be fine, it's just going to scrap. I sold the leather wrapped one to one of our members and I like to be honest when I give the bike to the insurance co. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it, and these items dont need to be in great shape...Thanks
  19. This is for a VTX but fits the right side of a 2nd Gen just fine. Covers up the hex nut. http://hondadirectlineusa.com/stores/product.asp?pid=924&str=11&ID=462367597
  20. Ok, this is where I am. I have rebuilt all 3 brake calipers and the rear master cylinder. After plenty of bleeding, both the bike and me, I finally got the blasted thing to hold pressure. Went for a quick test run and everything was going fine and then the darn brakes locked and would not let go. I pulled out the ol` wrench and bleed of the rear and wamo`, I was off again. Did a few laps around the pond and then they where dragging again. This time I bleed of the left front, and then I was off again. OK, I check the rear master cylinder, made sure the little hole was clear, and tried it again. After several goes, sure enough they started dragging again….. So what do I do now? You guys have been a wealth of info and anymore would be great!!!!! Oh Yea, if it helps I have a 1985 VR. and the right brake (front) is working just fine.

    tci woes no

ok i used all the info you guys helped me with and did the deed removing the fairing (which has several biggy cracks in it i discovered - anyone have one for sale?) and got it all apart but first switched the left front and rear coil wires and the spark plug wires to the cylinders. when i could easily reach them.. put the battery in and.... drum rollzzz!!! it worked fine.... before i decided to do this the spark faded within 5 seconds on the rear left cylinder.... fully expecting that to happen but this time with the front one because of switching the wires around it ran fine... still removed the tci and remounted it to the air box.. i'm taking her for a test run tomorrow if it doesnt snow too much... idled smooth ran great but still had to be put all back together.... so i fixed it by touching it i guess but had you guys not freely offered advice and helped me i would have gotten frusterated and used some elbow grease and a match thank you all again now i know someones gonna say that it was a wire but i know it was my touch
  22. I have a dilemma with my rear shock. The bike was fine and then I installed the leveling links. After about a month or so the shock began to groan. I read all the posts about how the shock shaft needs to be oiled by laying the bike over or adding oil through the shrader valve. I did both . No luck so I took it in and they removed the shock and found it is fine and holding air. They found the needle bearing were worn so they replaced them under warranty. Here come the problem. They but the regular links back on the bike and the groaning went away. They rode it for several miles and all was fine. They reinstalled my leveling links and the groaning returned. They then removed the leveling links and replaced them with the standard links and the groaning shock went away again. :confused24: Anyone else have this issue and could the links be putting the needle bearings under some kind of stress or bind that causes them to prematurely wear out. Moakster
  23. Well, the battle I've been fighting with my electrical system since last fall continues. I replaced the Battery, main ground cables and rectifier. I still can't seem to get any life out of the battery. I charge it up with the battery tender, I starts fine, Charges fine while it's running, and starts right back up if I don't wait too long, but if I leave it for a couple of hours, I can barely get the engine to turn over once. I measured the resistance of the entire system between the battery cables with the battery disconnected and key off and read 47 kohms. Is this normal and if not, what might be causing the draw? I haven't yet replaced the cable between the starter and the solenoid yet, I intend to, but I don't think that is the problem. I'm getting real tired of watching everyone else's bike through the windshield of my suburban while mine sits in my garage because I don't trust it to start if I stop anywhere.
  24. I finally purchased a trailer this weekend:dancefool:. I am having it painted to match the 06 Black Cherry, I would also like to have the pin striping put on it too. Does any of you fine group of folks know were I can get the pin striping part # from or the equivilent? Regards Keith.
