  1. Stopped in a dealer a few days ago just to look around. Found an 86 VR with 21,000 miles stuffed in a corner. Unfortunately I took it for a test drive (dealer had to jump it). Made a lowball offer and now I own it. Anyway, it has some issues I need to fix. Bike will idle with choke on , although it pops a bit when cold. When it warms up, backing off the choke causes a slowing idle until it finally dies. Could this be clooged/dirty pilot jets and will Seafoam cure the problem? Seems to run great off idle and all the way to redline. Second, Class is dead. No display at all (on ACC). Looks like a loose airline has been ziptied up near the front of the plastic gas tank cover. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Now I need to sell my 84. Thanks Kevin
  2. Tuesday I stopped by my local GM dealer to have the oil changed on the Suburban. In the past I usually tried to hit the place early...around 7-7:30AM. Any later and it's a zoo. I had to have some blood drawn at 8, so decided since I was in the neighborhood to fight the crowd and git'r done. Pulled to the sevice area around 9 and there was only 3 cars in line. Cool!! Well... in the next hour they didn't have more than 4 cars pull in. You could have shot a canon off full of grapeshot and not done any damage. Utter/McKinley's Morturary. I had no idea it was that bad. Then on the way back home I heard on the radio that GM was preparing to file bankruptcy in the next month or two. I personally don't see how this dealer will survive even that long..... They did have a used F350 4x4 'Harley Branded' Pick-up out on the lot that was really nice. Wished I had the bucks... Oh well... dream on!!....
  3. Could someone point me to a link with good directions to remove rear wheel on a 2007 venture so i can take to dealer and mount my new avon tire.
  4. Woke up this morning to 6" of snow. They say the Robins get snowed on three time before spring is truely here, well this is the third time here in S.W. Minnesota. O well the the bike's at the dealer getting alittle warranty work done before it goes out of warranty. If your riding today put on a few miles for me.
  5. Hi all, I've been a member for about 2 months now and I have just been kind of watching from the sidelines. Now I guess is my time to jump in so to speak. I purchased a 1986 Venture Royale long distance without seeing anything but pictures ... BAD MOVE, silly me I thought a Harley-Davidson dealer might have some integrity. Having cashed my check 5 weeks before I picked the bike up the dealer wanted nothing to do with me when I arrived except hand me the keys and get me out of the dealership. No wonder, after showing me pictures and telling me that the bike was in "perfect" condition I found it to be much different. This poor thing has been dropped or crashed at least once probably more. I am now up to about $800.00 with my local Yamaha dealer for mechanical concerns although for the most part it seems to run strong and clean. This is not counting the bodywork that I will need to do hopefully myself. I am hoping to have it in good enough shape to make the meet in Riverside, IA on 4/18. I am looking forward meeting as many of you as I can and also to all the help and tech assistance I can get. Who knows? After this project I may be able to help someone else. 6. The temps were in the upper 70's yesterday so a buddy and I ended up doing a 300+ mile loop. Since I am wanting to get an RSTD for a daily rider, we stopped in at the dealer in Hattiesburg,MS. They are probably the largest multi-line dealer in a few hundred mile radius. They just finished an addition that has them up to 42,000 sq ft. And they have just started on an addition for the service department. BUT, not all is well. My buddy and I are both 50+, we ride up on my '07 Venture and his '06 Wing. We look around for about 10 mins then I decide to price an RSTD. After 10 more minutes No one has approached us. In fact they are more interested in the teenager and his gf looking at the Raider. At one time there were 6 sales people standing around talking. I finally walk over and ask if there is anyone that isn't too busy to work up a price for me. I show him the one I'm looking at and ask for his best price for a cash deal. He says it will take him about 10 minutes to speak to his manager and then work it up. (The bike is an '08 and has a tag on it with the ' 08 MSRP and another for a $500 rebate) He finally comes back and shows me the figures. It's MSRP less the $500 plus the dealer fees and taxes! And he presented it like he had just cut me a huge deal! LOL Before the current economy, when I was looking to buy my Venture, every other dealer I spoke to was cutting an average of $2000 off of MSRP. I don't know, maybe this dealer can get away with a few hundred bucks off of MSRP but no one else seems to be able to.

After much thought and consideration I have decided to go out and buy a new Harley. Jean fell in love with a neighbors 08 Ultra and the dealer here has a super price on an 08 Screaming Eagle Ultra. And Zeus looks good in a black and orange bandana. Pics to follow. Dealer even offered me 8k on my RSV. Cant beat that with a stick. :thumbsup2:
  8. I dont know if this is in the correct place but I am having a problem with the clutch slipping on my 08 rsv. This problem only started after i changed the oil last week, went to the synthetic oil that the dealer recommended. I noticed it on the first ride after the change, it seems to only happen in 4th or 5th gear and is not real bad but it is bad enough that I can feel it. Are there any adjustments that can be made or does it need to just go back to the dealer for repairs? Thanks for any help. MURPH
  9. New here so I hope I can get a little help on this. I have a 05 RSV and I am having problems with the rear brake rotor pulsating. It first starting showing up around 4500 miles. It took the dealer until about 11500 miles until they replaced it under warranty. Now with 14500 miles on the bike the rear brakes are pulsating again. I brought it back to the dealer and they are telling me that they will not replace it under warranty again saying it's my fault because I am riding the rear brake. I find that almost impossible because of the position of the brake pedal. And yes, I even had the dealer, I see why there called the stealer, replace the brake shoes and the tires. I'm not new to this riding stuff, being doing it for about 40 years now. Any body able to offer any help on this?
  10. Taking my 08 RSV back to the dealer on Monday to have the radio/CB/intercom checked by a Yamaha Tech Rep. So far the dealer has replaced the left rear speaker, and the black box inside the fairing and it still doesn't work. They were going to change the control head on the handle bars. Don't know what the Rep will come up with. I'll keep ya posted, case some of you are having problems yourselves. My is intermitten and craps completely out with the volume above 15. And will not work at all with the rear speakers faded in. Going to have to do without it for 3 or 4 days. Maybe they'll give me a loaner-- FAT CHANCE!!! Glenn
  11. My Hannigan Kit came in last night to my Dealer. I was not going to show you guys until it was done. But I had to... One of the reason's I went there today is that I had to get my second saddle bag that they had for along time for the MM two tone color match. In the trunk is my RAKE KIT and Chrome Fender Tips for the rear. My matching trunk light bar, I looked under it. forgot to take pics *lol* man it is a work of art the suspension and brakes and stuff. I was racking it around in my brain the whole time if I wanted it one color or have it match my two/tone MM colors... So the end result is that I left it up to Hannigan. My Bike should be converted 27th or so.. should be a nice time to ride in Iowa by then. seems like this has taken FOREVER! I will post pictures of the final complete trike when finished. 12. I took my 06 RSTD in to the dealer today to have the cruise control worked on. I asked that they synch the carbs. I have been out all day since I dropped it off. When I came in I checked my messages and had one from the dealer (I will leave the dealers name unkown until I have a chance to see what else they come up with). Quote from the service manager "Techs say they cannot synch my carbs because I have only ONE". Am I worried about what else they are supposed to do! You Bet!
  13. I got my trike back 2-28, late afternoon. On the way home I noticed that the neutral light does not come on when in neutral. Also the OD light does not come on when in 5th gear. The curise control does not stay on. I went back to the dealer on 3-3 at 0900, the time that they open, and their first day to open after the weekend. They told me that they were too busy to do anything now and to call and make an apt. (After I paid just short of $2K to get it fixed) I made a call to a friend of mine and was told that the switch, or connection for the neutral light and maybe the OD light is behind the cover on the left side of the bike at the foot shifter. Before I get started on this task I wanted to ask you guys who might have had some type of problem like this for your help. Any ideas? or pictures? so I'll have some idea of what I'm doing. I'm all done with this dealer and begining to compose a letter to Yamaha. Ken:fingers-crossed-emo
  14. The wife has 65K on her 05 Chevy Colorado with the 5 cylinder motor. Truck runs great but this is the third time it has been in for a engine service light on. GM dealer says even though it's out of warranty they will fix it for free. Something about a head replacement,Valve stem wear issue. The dealer says about $2K in work at no charge.I heard they were extending the warranty to 7 years or 100K for this problem. Has anybody had this problem fixed? I'm concerned about long term life of that motor. I would like to get about 200K of service from it.The plan was to run it another 5 years after paying it off and convert a truck payment into a new house investment. So much for a plan.Does anybody know of the I5 engines getting high mileage out of that motor.

    Preferred vendor

I hope I don't insult anyone by asking this loaded question, but I will ask anyway. I need to purchase 3 needle vavle sets (P/N: 4KM-14107-15). I purchased 1 from the local dealer and paid way to much ($36). Is there a preferred vendor associate with this site to purchase from? tx, Bob
  16. I had recently purchased a used clutch master cylander from jbike parts aka Fine Cycle of New Port Richey Florida, and when I received it, I found out someone had butchered the round area where it mounts on to the handlebar. Looked like swomeone had fit it onto a 1" bar. The whole thing was spray painted black, even the sight window. It was sold "as is" but I dropped a line to the dealer. I received a response literraly a minute later with an apology, and he gave me a full refund immediately!!! As far as I'm concerned, that particular dealer is a class act and trys extremly well to please!! If you ever see anything advertised from him, buy with complete confidence that you are dealing with a reputible and honest dealer!! So very refreshing a change from dealers that don't care about anything but your money...
  17. #1 Is the battery under the seat and how do you remove the seat? 2nd the manual said the dealer needs to charge the battery, is there something special about it that I can't put it on my Battery Tender also do you recommend removing the battery or just hooking tender up on bike. The dealer that I bought the bike from was not a load of info.
  18. what is the date of the litchfield appreciation days at the honda, yamaha dealer? thanks.
  19. I'm a new 2009 RSV owner and I'm ready to switch out my stock mufflers for the RKs. I've read as much as I can find on here about doing this but I'm unclear on a couple of things. I'm really looking for the easiest way to do this.... If I go to the local HD dealer and ask if they have any stock RK mufflers, is there a particular type I should ask for? What about brackets? Can these be purchased or do I have to grind and cut? What exactly do I need to do this job? Thanks for your help, David
  20. I had my dealer lower the front of my 09 RSV about a week ago. The bike does seem to feel a bit lower on the front and maybe handling is a little better, although I didn't have much problem with slow speed riding before. The main reason I wanted to lower the front 1" was to help flat foot at stop lights. Unfortunately I don't really notice much difference after the mod. I could always put one foot down flat and the other foot was touching except for the heel which was still about 1/2" off the pavement. I'm 5' 11" and not sure what my inseam is. Now I'm wondering if my dealer actually lowered the front (paranoia setting in). I can't remember how they looked before but the top of the fork tubes (air valves) are about 1" above the triple tree....would that confirm that the bike was actually lowered? Thanks guys, David
  21. Today I was called by the dealer who is fixing the engine in my bike. He told me that he had some bad news for me. The Yamaha rep told him that Yamaha is not going to stand behind fixing my bike because it had been triked and has a trailer hitch on it. The dealer told me that he is going to call the rep on Tuesday and talk to him and see if he can change his mind. It that doesn't work he will then call the rep's boss and see what he can get done. The dealer told me that I'll probable have to call Yamaha Customer Service sometime in the middle of the week and see if I can get them to do something about fixing the engine. The problem is with the piston. It has 4 marks on it that are on oppisit sides these run verticle from just under the top of the piston to the bottom. I'll try to attach a picture of the piston. I've had Yamaha all my life. Looks like this will be my last. Ken
  22. Radio won't come on and just wanna make sure I have checked all that needs to be checked before going to dealer. - - -Radio fuse {10 amp} is not blown. - - -All connections are okay. It is my assumption that since those two things are spot on; then, the radio is kaput, there is nothing else to check and it is time to take the booger to the dealer.....Right?
  23. About a month ago, maybe longer I posted hearing noise coming from my '04 RSV. The Yamaha dealer has had my trike for almost 3 weeks now. They have had the Yamaha rep out who thought it was a gas problem without listening to it. When he heard it he told the dealer to tear it down. What they found was the left cylender piston had 4 up and down scratches on it. 2 on each side of the piston. I asked the dealer how this could happen and he has told me that they don't know. This is the best engine that they have. They are now waiting until tuesday when the rep will be back and they decide what they are going to do. The bike has 2 more months left on the warranty. The bike has 32K on it. The dealer has told me that he is trying to get Yamaha to pay for some of the repairs, but I would have to pay for the bearings in the lower unit if I wanted to replace them. He has told me that I might as well since the engine is torn down. He also said that Yamaha is fighting paying labor for having to remove some of my trike kit to get to the engine. Of course my thinking is - - If the engine hadn't gone sour, the trike kit would not have had to be removed. I'm going to try to go back to the dealer and get some pictures of the piston if they let me. If I get them, then I'll post them here. I was talking to a man yesterday on a ride I was on who's son has a Suzuki and the same thing happen to him. He said that it was a lack of oit getting to the piston. I don't know if this is my problem or not. If it is, I would think that Yamaha would have to pick up the whole tab. of course I'm hoping for anything that would benifit me. Any ideas out there? Ken 1 - UP:fingers-crossed-emo
  24. I just learned my favorite Yamaha dealer is going out of business. I don't know exactly when but everything is being liquidated. For those of you anywhere near Morris, IL you may want to check ProSource Motorsports. He was advertising new 08 Ventures for dealer cost. I am concerned now because he had a great service dept. Now where do I go for great service?
  25. My tape deck door will not stay closed anymore. Is this part of the deck or the faring? How hard is this going to be to fix? Or should I just glue it shut? Anyone have this problem before that can help would be great. I don't want to take it to my dealer.
