  1. Well dang......that shot my goal of a 12 month riding season this year. Yeah, I know, no big deal for some of you southern boys but in Nebraska it's a rare thing. I started riding the bike to work everyday back in mid March of 2011 and never even got in the car again except on a few really nasty days until this month. I think it was less than 5 days of not riding in that time. The temps dropped down to -3 last night and I decided to pull the battery out and bring it in. Hope it warms up a couple days so I can take another shot at this. At least above 15 degrees. But it's supposed to snow again tomorrow so I better gas up the cage. 11 months....... best year ever for me. Now I'm bored. Mike
  2. A buddy of mine is getting ready to sell their '99 Miata ragtop - - cherry condition, 88K miles, glossy black, custom rims, leather interior. Looking to get $7,000 for it. I am sooooo tempted, but I'm afraid that I might like it as much as my RSV and be totally conflicted on nice riding days! The maintenance and insurance cost would be a lot more, but it's a really pretty little car. A definite head turner. What to do, what to do?????
  3. Does anyone have any experience with this product? https://www.denniskirk.com/slime/mini-smart-spare-kit.p282558.prd/282558.sku I like the compact pump. My saddlebags fill up fast when we are gone for more than a few days.
  4. I'm probably just missing it again but I was trying to do a search for all posts on a certain date. In the advanced there is a date function but it requires you to also be searching for a word. Is there a way to search for ALL posts from all forums on a specific day or range of days?
  5. Well the wife & I have decided to list the farm and move to town. Mixed emotions I guess. Babe has raised a cow herd here on the farm over the last 20 years, with all the cows having names & each with their own personality. Hard to take them to the cattle auction, but that's the reality of the cow business. I have lived here on the farm longer than any other place in my life. Lots of loves & fond memories of the 20 years here. It will be nice to open the garage door & ride the bike on cement or pavement without riding a mile & a half on dirt or mud. Lots more days able to ride without the worry of rain making the road to the house muddy! I will have to relearn to go into the house every time I need to make water. That will be harder than it might sound to you town guys, as here on the farm you just make water where ever you are. No more worries about the septic overflowing, the well quitting, the electric line losing connectivity, (as it did yesterday) or being snowbound for several days (2006). I will keep you posted.
  6. I picked up a spare rear rim to try a CT. Went searching today for a tire and it seems that the Kumhos have all dried up. What's the current "hot topic" tire that's available these days? About all I have seen would be the BFG in the right size. TIA, Iz
  7. Hello, everybody. I've been lurking here for a few days now. Ever since my girlfriend informed me that we need a different bike than our Roadstar if we are gonna go very far. Seems the Roadie's ride is just a tad tough on her tush. Also, we want hard bags, fairing, overdrive, cruise, etc. etc. You all know where this is heading. I have been looking for a few days now, and I have found a 2004 RSV that has been covered inside a garage since 2007. Seems the guy bought it, then promptly lost interest. Fast forward to now. We plan to buy it. I know about what has happened in these years. The battery is probably dead as a doornail, the oil needs changed, the tires may be flat, may even need replaced... My big fear is the gas. I know the tank needs drained, as do the carbs... Think I'll get away with that? Or will the carbs need to be removed and gone through? I know that when I decide to fire up one of my old cars, I need to mess with the carb, but there's only 1, and it's right on top. I'm not intimidated by the prospect, just rather not disturb them if I don't need to. In reading your fine forum here this morning, I found that the float levels are probably too high, and need adjustment anyway, but for now I'd like to just get to know the bike before tearing into it. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Bert
  8. We are going to Australia for a few days. Linda & I will be leaving Dec. 6th and return on the 15th. 5 days in Melbourne and 2 in Sydney or 6 and 1, depends on how much fun we have in Melbourne. Looking forward to seeing the other side of the world and doing some FISHING.
  9. I was loading my bike and a friend told me not to tighten the tie downs until I was ready to leave which would be two days later, he said it would ruin the shocks. what is your thoughts on this?
  10. Placed an order with Cruiser Customizing 2 weeks ago. I used them a few times in the past but had some issues with them back then so I didnt order from them anymore. I tried them again thinking that maybe things improved, ordering a Kuryakyn chrome caliper cover from them but 12 days later it still hasn't arrived. The answer they provided via emails only shows they have no real desire at true customer service. If they think a 4 week window for parts delivery is ok then there are plenty of other sources out there for parts. Out of all the sources that i have ordered from, CC seems to be one of the worst. I have used Jake Wilson, Competition Accessories, Phat Performance just to name a few and plenty on Ebay and none of them took that long for a part to arrive. Ok, just venting here...... The pasted item below is from our emails: first is down at the bottom and gos up. Why you would ship a domestic order through International mail makes no sense. The 200 to 300% reduction in shipping costs are on your end, not mine. My $8.00+ shipping charges most certainly would have covered shipping via Priority mail. And there is a tracking # on my order. The part has sat in Orlando Fl for 3 days now. If the answer you provided was supposed to make me feel better it did not. Your shipping policies are atrocious. No item should take 1-4 weeks to be delivered domestically. From: "orders@CC" To: ruffrider99@bellsouth.net Sent: Mon, October 24, 2011 12:32:35 PM Subject: RE: Customer Request: Order Status (LTK494019862879X) Good evening, Your order shipped 10/12/2011 via International Mail. There is no tracking number on these shipments, we do this to dramatically reduce the cost of shipping (sometimes 200% -300%). Shipping International is generally 1-4 weeks for delivery but can take up to 8 weeks just depending on customs. If you do not receive it by the 8 week time frame please let us know and we can review the shipment and reship if necessary. On a side note I believe we are currently trying to use another service as we are aware of the problem as well. I apologize for the wait and hope to have better service for you in the furture. Did you hear? Cruiser Customizing now has gift certificates! A great way for you to get them EXACTLY what they want. Individual Style. http://www.CruiserCustomizing.com ______________________________________________ Subject: Customer Request: Order Status Contact Information Email: ruffrider99@bellsouth.net Order Number: W20691952 My question is about: Order Status Additional Info: I placed an order on Oct 12 and as of today, 12 days later it still has not arrived. The shipping method you use is one of the worst systems I have ever seen. Why you use DHL is lost on me. As a Postal Service employee im aware of all the shipping methods. The delays are huge when you ship items through DHL. For what I paid for shipping you could have just shipped it in a small Priority box and it would have been here within 4 days. I have ordered plenty of bike parts over the years and the only time I ever had trouble was when DHL was involved last year with another company. This could certainly keep me from buying any more parts from CC in the future. Standard Parcel Post shipped directly through the Post Office would be faster then DHL.
  11. OK, I believe I am going to take a ride from central Illinois to Key West Florida. I will be going via Nashville, Atlanta, Stopping in Gainesville FL for a few days to visit my neice and a couple of friends then off to Fort Myers to see my Brother. Then down to Key West for a day or so and then back up the east side of FloridaStopping in Orlando to visit a cousin. Then the chilly ride on home. Just thought if anyone wanted to ride along on the route either for a few days or just the day let me know (or the whole trip) and I will get my trip all planned out and let you know when I will be in your area. I would also change my route some if there are people who want to ride, I will stop and pick you up along the way. Rick
  12. I took off the rest of this week to take a break and get some bow-hunting time in. Got me a young doe yesterday evening for the freezer. I will eat some of it, the rest will be given to friends. I will be hunting for a turkey or two this evening. Yet for now, here I sit on this computer. I better save this for later and get going. I would have liked to have gotten some riding in, a little anyway, but need tires (two bad spots to the threads, not safe at all),sigh, and will probably just wait until this winter to put them on. Well It is hard sometimes in life to decide the better of two loves. I love to ride, but I also love to bow-hunt. There are needs in my life for both. The thing is though, that both are at their peak at the same time during Fall of year. I do not care to gun hunt, I would rather deer/turkey hunt with my bow. If I wait to long into deer season, then all the other deer seasons will be in and out, early muzzle loader this weekend for two days. Then another muzzle loader season for 7-8 days. Then modern gun season for three weeks in November. So I like to hunt now before all this. I seem to have my best days afield now and until the second week of November. I look for a good buck, pass on a lot of small ones. So this takes time. But I love them both. So off I go to the woods for now. Man I would love to take a ride......... Fuzzy
  13. I am planning a visit to UK in April / May next year. Primary purpose is to meet my first grand-child, who is due in a few weeks. We will be staying in Midhurst, Sussex, and Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire areas. Can anyone point me to a place where I could rent a motorcycle (and helmets) for a few days while we are there? I would love to ride to Bath, Bristol, and Cornwall. Thanks for any suggestions!
  14. Is it really necessary? If so, then a couple more. I've read suggestions somewhere to plug the exhaust pipes if the bike is going to be parked for a while. If so, I'm thinking of a ball of aluminum foil. Any better ideas? Is there any reason to park it on its center stand, rather than the kick stand? Winter here mostly means grey days and rain, with a few riding days mixed in. So I want my bike ridable on short notice. I got it laced with seafoam, connected to my new solar battery maintainer, and covered. Any other tips? Thanks tom
  15. Two months ago my clutch worked fine, bike has set as I was out of town for work. Get back and have no clutch. I believe my slave cylinder needs to be rebuilt as I do lose fluid over time. usually I can fill the reservoir up do a quick bleed and back on the road. This time not so lucky. When I pull the lever there is absolutely nothing there, as if the lever is not attached to anything. I cannot seem to get it to build pressure. This has been going on for several days. ANy ideas or suggestions?
  16. Any one from Anaheim, Fullerton, Brea, Yorba Linda, or Placentia, California area remember Fairway Yamaha? Bought my '84 Venture Royale there, then they went out of business around '86 or '87. If I remember correctly, I paid $6,800 for it. Rode it until 2004. I still have the license plate bracket, but it doesn't look right on my Wing. Just went through a bunch of stuff looking for a souvenier shirt from the Barstow to Vegas run Thanksgiving weekend 1985. Could not find it, guess it must have shrunk to the point it's too small. I do have the patch and pin from the ride. Had a buddy from Ohio come out on a '85 Gold Wing and we did that run together. Of course he was upset that I could out-quick, out-speed, out-handle him, and get about 2 miles per gallon better mileage. Yes, those were the days, my friends. My buddy died last summer, had not seen him or communicated for years. Lost opportunities. Only motorcycling can invoke this kind of memory and now cause one to reflect and vow to try to make the most out of the days we have yet remaining. Mel
  17. ***SIGH*** PIP is over. Had a super great time, seeing a few old friends and making some new ones!! Followed Bubber home but he said he already had a dog and didn't need any more pets so we continued on the journey. Got out of Minnesota into Wisconsin and made it all the way to the same hotel we stayed at on the way down! Only difference is we are taking 3 days to get as far as we got in 2 days coming out here. Wisconsin is strange! They name their highways with letters instead of names! Also found a 8 3/4 Avenue! 8 3/4??? Why not 8.75?? What's up with a fraction in an avenue number??? Hoping to make the Indiana border by tomorrow evening...
  18. Ok, so I am one week back from an awesome 10 days on the road for my annual Atlanta to the Dak's back road twister. Almost perfect conditions bar a day off to weather Irene (in a cozy cabin mind you). Mentioned to my riding buddy that there is nothing sweeter than the sound of wind and rain on the roof of a cabin verses the top of your tiny tent, and he agreed. May have only been 2400 miles over those glorious days but never a better divorce from my reality back at work. And now 7 days later all I can think about is when is the next road trip, even am spying toy hauler sites to consider for extended times away. All I can say is I am a winning lottery ticket away from a vagabond lifestyle. Anyone want to contribute to the fund? All the best, Norm
  19. Is there anyone near S.W. Pa. (somerset Pa.) that could do a carb sync for me? Don did one for me at last years maintenace day but it is acting like it needs it again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. When I say "near" I mean within a days ride....always looking for a reason to spend some time on the scooter. Thanks, Mark
  20. I posted this idea in the prayer request thread, but it may get lost or missed there. Even with good insurance, With minimum 30 days in the hospital, out of work, rehabilitation, etc their out of pocket expenses are likley to be huge. I know that Don (Freebird) only does this on a very selective basis, and if I am over stepping my bounds posting this let me know. If he has a paypal addy using that would be easiest but would not be good to post in open forum perhaps. Anyway, 100 people $100 dollars that's 10 grand, 200 people at $50, that's also 10 grand. That would cover 20% of 50 K medical bill assuming he's got 80/20 coverage(30 days will likley approach exceed 100K) Skip a night out to Carraba's for Ponch. If someone knows Ponch's paypal addy or has another idea to set this up, I'm good for the first $100.00. Derrek RSTDdog
  21. Accept the fact that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue! Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it. Drive carefully... It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.. If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.. It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others. Never buy a car you can't push. Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. (well, I don’t know about this one!) Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late. The second mouse gets the cheese. When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane. Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live. You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person. Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once. We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box. A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour. (I love our detours in the country!) Have an awesome day and know that someone thought about you today. It was me, your friend! Save the earth..... It's the only planet with chocolate! :cool10:
  22. Ok the venture has a broke u-joint and the bolt holding the bottom half of the rear shock is out and caused a couple other problems. I might be back on the road in 10 days or so! Phill
  23. NEWTrk (Phil) my husband has been talking for a couple of years about triking out his venture and yesterday he did it. He really did it. He put down his deposit for the Hannigan trike kit and in a couple of months it will all be over with and he'll be grinning from ear to ear. Look out here he comes - next will be retirement and then 48 states in 60 days...
