  1. just got the bike first of may and went down on may 27 still recovering and my wife also so thinking of putting a kit on my bike looking for some feed back on which kit is best for the venture thanks butch 882
  2. While killing some time at a local Harley shop before the Pig roast Saturday I saw what I believe is the perfect 200 mile and under bike for me. It's the 2010 Harley Fat Boy Black Corduroy Wooo Hoo what a sweeeeeeeeeeeet bike only thing I'd change is the chrome handlebars and headlight ring Yup... flat black and brushed aluminum ... ZERO CHROME!
  3. So I really want a bit more sound outa the new bike. I've seen a youtube vid for V&H Monster Ovals - they sound really nice with a deep soft tone. Think I'll go for the ones with the black tips. So the thing is: do I just simply order ones for a R/King off V&H? What year? My bike is an '08 Midnight Venture. Also I've seen the adapter brackets for them on ebay. Is that all I need to fit them?
  4. I just found a 1983 Venture for sale for $1900. Add says great shape and good running, has 51,000 miles. I'm thinking as a project bike if its a nice bike. What do you guys think? Whats a good price? How about finding parts?
  5. I don't know what else to do. My 98 Royal Star keeps pissing gas out of the overflow tubes. I cleaned it, put new jets, new needle valves/seats, and it still pissed gas. I finally got so frustrated that I took it to a local mechanic and he said the floats were way off, charged me $280 and I thought that I was good to go. NOPE!!! I live three and a half miles from his shop. I don't own a trailer and my buddy that does was not available so I rigged a 1L jerry can up thinking that would catch enough gas for 3 1/2 miles. NOPE!! I had to dump the can three times, so that is 1L of fresh out of the pump that day gas per mile! The mechanic has had it for a week and he called me yesterday and said that they had the carb bank on the test bench and hit it with a heat gun and the gas was boiling at 104 degrees, making the floats drop, and pissing gas again. He does not have any solutions. I have no idea where to go from here other than just put the bike up for sale. I WILL loose my ass if I sell this bike not running. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!!
  6. Everytime I lean into a turn I feel a roughness or maybe a rubbing which seems to be getting worse. The bike is a 2003 RSV. Tires don't look bad. Any ideas?
  7. Well... No matter what, it never ends! I just finished getting a pair of Like New OEM mufflers from Hulk They are just like new & I had them installed in less than 30 minutes. My bike is sooooo quiet now. While I was laying on my back tightening the bolts I saw my Avon Venom rear tire. Not only was it terribly cracking on the side walls... it had a bald spot down to the belts with just 11,000 miles. Argh! So now I have to: change rear tire - going back to the Darkside with a Nanking change the rear drive oil change the motor oil clean up everything on the bike ...just so I can go on a short 1500 mile ride in 2 weeks. ...and of course, I'll enjoy every minute of the work - JUST LIKE ALL OF US DO
  8. how long before i can put oil in bike i used a new gaskit and yamabond bumble bee
  9. well i learned you should avoid bady shops like the plague because if you are pulling into one you probably cant drive in the first place. well 2 and a half months ago i was driving by one near my home when i noticed a truck stop in the oncoming lane with his blinker on i figured since he stopped he saw me. then as i was about to pass he decided to turn i locked up my R1 and managed to slow just enough to slam into the rear of his truck shattering the front of my bike and breaking my wrist
  10. """The policy limit is $3500.00 less your $250.00 deductible.""" Does this mean that the MOST I can receive is $3250.00. Or Does it mean that after the value of the bike is determined with all its accessories then the $250.00 is applied from the total value of the bike. If after the deductable value is subtracted and the value is still greater than $3500.00, then the most I can receive is $3500.00? Any insurance Professionals out there?
  11. Guys, For job reasons I'll spent 4 days on CA, on the El Segundo Area (Close to LA). I 'm trying to check how much could be to rent a bike for two days and were to do it. I found only two HD dealers that do that but only up to HD prices.... There are any other choices? THanks,
  12. I need some help. I started off to work last week when my 1996 Royal Star Classic stuck in first gear and wound only shift to neutral and then back to first. I took the cover off and found one of the pins was missing. I have only owned the bike for 8 weeks. The bike has 39,000 on it but before this happened nothing gave me the indication any thing was wrong. It does appear someone has been in side the bike and doing the same thing. The tab was bent out and the pin was missing as already stated. I have some pictures if any one has an Idea where I should go from here it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. New to the forum.
  13. I've noticed my clutch slipping when I shift down to pass a car and get on to it in 3rd gear it seems to slip a little bit and then kicks in. Is this unusual for a bike with 28k. I have towed a trailer for some of that. I don't really notice any other time.
  14. I have a 2006 RSTD. I am installing the original mufflers on the bike. Do I have to remove the saddlebags to get to the back bolt?
  15. I went to a Victory Demo Days event today. This is the first time I have had a chance for a good test ride on a Victory. I have to say I really liked the look of the Vision especially the Ness version I rode today. That gas tank and dash are humongous. It's like getting in a limo with an extended hood line. It looked so big when I got on the bike I almost just got off again. But I didn't. I stuck with it and took the extended demo ride. To my surprise the balance and handling were awesome. It was very easy to ride at low speed. Parking lot maneuvers and slow turns were a pleasure. Balancing the bike at walking speed was almost effortless. I also rode a Cross Country and another little sportier model. Again very good manners. Here is the thing. As well as these bikes handled the overall ride was no where close to as good as my Venture. There is a coarseness that permeates the Victory ride and boarders on roughness. It is felt throughout the bike much more so than the little vibration in the Venture handlebars. So after a couple of hours riding Victories I was very happy to return to my Venture for the trip home. All I can say is "no victory sale here". Mike
  16. Can't leave until Monday morning but the bike is cleaned, trailer cleaned, tire pressures checked, I am ready to get on the road. Just got in from a little ride just around the countryside here. Only about 75 miles or so but it sure felt good. Had a hard time moving the bike at first. Cobwebs and etc. had it tied to the garage floor.
  17. A new purchase for me that may interest some of you. This is called a BIKE BARN, sold out of B.C. I made a "pad" out of paving stones we had elsewhere, and the Barn took about 2 hours to assemble. It is a drive-in-close-up structure, no fear of hot pipes, good for all seasons, weighed down by cinder blocks but you can permanently secure if you wish. There is a gif on the website of a pretty girl in shorts opening and closing it. http://www.thebikebarn.net/index.html
  18. My niece and her boyfriend are stuck up north with a bike running at red line.Throttle moves correctly but the bike still red lines.I am going to pick them up now with trailer. If anyone has any suggestions please call. Thanks Ray 416-567-0055:whistling:
  19. On Sunday Doug(DBeck) stopped over to swap tci's in our bikes to see if that was his problem. It was, with mine in his bike it ran great. The problem is about a month ago my tach started to twitch and drop to 0 when below 1200 rpm. Since the bike still runs great I thought it was the tach, but with my tci while on his bike it did the same thing. So the question is will new diodes save it or is it a lost cause at this point? Also how long will it last before total failure? If the new diodes will fix it is there a member who works on them. Any and all input would be appreciated. Thanks, Ray
  20. Ok, been a lot of conversation lately about fuel pumps and now I'm chasing a problem with mine.... me thinks. First of all the bike is in good shape and most possible issues have been addressed in the past. Fuel tank lined with expoxy. Fuel filter and petcock shows clean and free. (Opened the tank to inspect) Fuel lines have all been replaced Tank vent clear and free of obstuctions. Carbs in good working condition and fuel bowl levels at spec. Good fuel flow through system. Air filter clean. Sync done recently. Electrical connections recently checked and found to be clean and sealed. Cooling system clean and working properly. Bike is not over heating. Charging system and electrical working properly and in good condition. Different fuel bought over a week from different stations. The problem only happens when the temps are in the top end of the 90's or over 100. Everything works fine in cooler temps and no problems of any kind. What happens is the bike, at highway speeds (60 - 75 mph) after being ridden for a distance in hot temps just stalls and sputters out. It will cranks right away but needs to sit for a bit before starting again. The first time it happened I wrote it off as a possible vapor lock. The bike had been sitting out in the sun since early morning and I didn't leave work until 2:00 PM when it was 101 degrees out. I only had a gallon and a half in the tank so I figured with the heat maybe I was vaporing. After 15 minutes the bike fired up and I rode home with no furture problems. I did check the vent line at that point. I filled the tank the next morning and ran about 100 miles that day in 80 degree temps and no problems. The next day it did the same thing again with a over half a tank in temps close to 100 again. Same thing. Let it cool down for bit and ran on home. It's done the same things twice more since then in the high temps but I made note that the digital voltmeter was showing a nasty fast drop from the usual 14.2 volts to 13.5 -13.8 right as the bike started to sputter. Not normal. And again today on the Interstate when it was 97 degrees. So knowing everthing I've checked is working as it should, almost, with the sudden drop on the voltmeter just as the bike stalls out I'm starting to question the fuel pump itself. NOTE: I can't say I've seen the volt meter dropping prior to the stalling, only note it as the bike is stalling. Is it possible the pump itself is stalling out do to a heat related failure causing the drop in the volts? It functions properly when cooled off. I can not get the bike to stall while on the stand and letting it run hot. It only stalls hot and under load. Kind of got me scratching my head... Mike
  21. Reduced the price on my 84 in the classifieds.Bike MUST go.Someone is missing out on a good bike for the price.

  23. Today I picked up DenDen's 83 Standard. Some folks here know how well he took care of this bike. He wanted to part ways with the bike since he no longer rides so he made me a deal I couldn't refuse. There's some work to be done of course since it hasn't been on the road in about 4 years. maybe more, but that bike is sure in very good shape for a 29 year old. There's no broken plastic except for one tab on a side panel which should be easy to fix since the tab is there. Mechanically I'll need to fix a water leak somewhere below the radiator, rebuild the forks, & either rebuild the rear master cylinder or replace it, & replace a 8 year old battery. As far as I know at this point those are the things needing attention. Got a few extra parts he tossed in as well. I don't expect to put it on the road till spring so during the next few months & winter I'll be going over this bike bringing the old girl back to pristine condition once again. Larry
  24. On my Triumph, the gas filler cap is parallel to the ground so I can put a level on it to see if the bike itself is level. But is there anywhere on an RSV that I can put a level to check if the bike is level? Neither my garage floor nor my driveway are level - and by different amounts too. Andy
  25. I just purchased a 1999 venture. The first ride was short but the bike performed ok. I changed out the oil and put in synthetic. I also changed out the rear gear oil. So I decided to go for a ride, expecting it to run better. It was realy rough and got worse with throttle applied. Any suggestions
