  1. when you apply the brakes, you not only have the rear brake llights going on and drawing juice but also there is the front anti dive relays on both front forks that draw quite a bit of juice. when my battery was on its way out, my bike did the exact same thing, 15 volts while running, and all lights were very dim while stopped. very slow to crank over if bike had sat for a few days. installed new battery and ready to roar, all back to normal. cheers, Scott
  2. and the funny part was, i was going to go to Carls for a visit, a coffee and pick up some steaks and then go to BRadT to use his BBQ. oh well, i had a TV dinner instead.
  3. i knew if i posted here, i would get a response. my pm box is flowing with people selling parts, and great leads on where to go, then my phone rings, long distance east coast USA, and a rad from an 89 will be in the mail over the next couple of days at a fair price. thanks to all, this site is the bestest. (that means even better than the best, right Carl) cheers, Scott
  4. my rad had a leak. green trail running down my driveway. tubes are going. -do i get it rebuilt? -do i buy a new one? -anyone close to Toronto, Ontario with a spare they want to sell? cheers, Scott
  5. when i bought my bike it had about 50000 miles on it and it would only slip at hard acceleration in 4th or 5th gear. i replaced the plates and installed the barnett clutch spring kit and now if i take off quick the front tire is off the ground. the clutch life depends on the driver. any standard shift vehicle i have had, when i took it to the dump it still had the original clutch in it with over 300,000 miles on it.
  6. hey Floyd my gel lasted about 11 months. that was an expensive test, it cost around 170-180 buckeroos. i replaced it with a whatever yamiha passed me over the counter wet cell battery for 60 bucks. it seems to start easier too, more cranking juice? i can three wet cell batteries for the price of one gel cell. just my 2 cents worth. cheers, Scott

    Rides

    do a jelly bean ride.
  8. here is a modification that i learned from another member. get four 12 inch pieces of soft stranded electrical wire, i used 14 guage from my local auto parts supplier. they usually have small packs of this wire to hook up fog lights, radios, or trailor lights. go to your local auto parts store and buy eight electrical crimp on lug connectors with a hole big enough for a screw to go through and crimp onto each end of the four pieces of wire. remove the saddlebag lid and you will see the mounting nuts for the lock mechanisms, remove a nut from the top front lock and install one of the wire/lug and do the same for the rear lid latch. then remove nut from the front and rear lock on the saddlebag and attach the other end of the wire/lug and tighten the nuts. the saddlebag lids will now hang nicely over the side of the saddlebags when removed and you will wonder why this was not done in the first place. cheers, Scott

    motel bull

we only had one bad night this year, we were told 130 bucks for the night in Bangor Maine, a couple comes in behind us from the same province as us, and he was told 79 bucks for the night. i had a nice discussion with the hotel manager and was able to talk her into giving us the same price. she told me that she has had some trouble with bikers and that is why she charged more if you ride a bike. now for a totally different experience, we pulled in to a motel south of watertown new york, and it was raining pretty hard. we checked in, got some dry clothes on and went to the front desk to ask where is a good place to eat. the hotel owner said where a great place is to eat, and threw me the keys to his brand new mini van and said there is a cell phone on the dash if we get lost. he would not take any money for us using the minivan. i did bring back a couple of slices of pie as he made the mistake of saying that this restaurant make the best coconut cream pie and apple pie.

"play, smile, think of me, pray for me" that says it all perfectly
  20. how many beers to the mile you get. i want one, ya
  21. i ran my metzelers at the required higher pressure and after only a few thousand kilometers on them while out on the highway the rear tire rubber separated from the carcass. this was supposed to have been a top of the line set of tires that my local dealer sold me. i spent a couple of months calling, emailing, getting attitude and the royal runaround from metzeler, and i have finally given up. yes i lose, but they will also lose as i ride a lot and will need to buy tires again.
  22. hey Scott if you get on the bike and i does not make your heart go pitter patter, that great feeling of freedom, open to smell the air, taste the bugs, then it is time to move on to another great hobby. we will miss you, and hope that you continue to add your humour to the site. Sherry and i cannot wait for any excuse to get on the bike and ride, we have met so many great people, been to so many meet and eats, seen so much of Canada and U.S.A., we will continue to take the risk and enjoy our rides. this year was the first accident that i had on our bike, i have ridden over 30 years non stop. thankfully it was only me on the machine, i just went to get gas and was coming home to take my daughter out for a daddy-date. i have three 50 watt lights on the front of the bike (headlight and 2 driving lights) and the lady said she never seen me. she was coming from the opposite direction stopped and made a left hand turn right in front of me. all i seen was her passenger door, locked the brakes and crash, down i go. sherry and i have put over 2,000 km on the bike since, as it was all cosmetic damage to the bike. i am still in therapy, but i can swing my right leg over the seat and i still get that rush, even now when i get on the machine. when i have fear about riding, i will stop, and have to find another hobby. god bless us all
