i just got in from the hospital, x-rayed left hip, left ankle, right hand, nothing broken, whew, i should be good to ride tomorrow. okay i'm dreaming. left hip is really swollen and i am limping, but hey i am still here. i was so close to centre punching her car door with the bike, that was too close. i went down hard on the left side of the bike, she took a beating. i guess it would have been cool to see the sparks and stuff. the lady who could not speak any ingrish, sorry english, was charged with making an improper turn by the police. having a stiff drink right now, taking two asperins and hitten the sack. cheers, Scott -

Who changes tires fastest...or my experience with MR MOTORCYCLE NC
mother replied to a topic in Lessons Learned
my Metzeler tire let me down with only 3,000 or so kilometers (2,000 miles) it was 40 minutes to change a rear from the time i entered the parking lot, to paying for the tire. thanks Acadiaman for directing me to Atlantic Motoplex in Moncton New Brunswick, and excellent dealer. the tires were also on sale 40 percent off, charged me for .5 hours and i was treated with royalty. the dealer almost sold Ohhh Sherry a 1100 V-Star. that would have been an expensive tire. -
Process Of Elimination, Clutch Repair
mother replied to 6pak's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
i also had really good luck with the barnett clutch, it engages and is only a little firmer pressure on the clutch hand. only thing is now the front tire comes up off the ground, the wife is not impressed. cheeers, Scott -
time to replace the battery. i just had the same problem, noticed lights would dim when put brakes on. charging system trying to put out enough juice, but one of the cells must be low. if i rev it up a little the voltmeter would come back up. installed a new battery and all is back to normal. my sealed battery only lasted one year/25,000 km. i went back to a wet cell battery. cheers, Scott

mother replied to Twenty7Delta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
on my first gen i removed the cassette player and it makes a great storage area for my 2 meter/70 cm rig. or sometimes i just take the scanner. i use a mini earphone in the one ear. VE3SCO -
great write up Louie, i did my progressives over the winter, 1 inch spacers, 200 ml each fork, which is about 1/2 inch below top of forks with units compressed. rides like a cadillac, Cheers, Scott

well after lots of touring down the coast of Newfoundland and around other small towns just north of where we were staying and getting our fill of lobsters, clams, mussels and fresh fish daily we had to say good-bye to Newfoundland and cross back over to north Sydney Nova Scotia. we stayed in Gabarus at a relatives house, then did the Cabot Trail the next day. stayed in Baddeck Cape Breton, then Moncton New Brunswick, then Grand Falls, then Montreal Quebec, stopped in Kingston Ontario and went out on a friends big saliboat for the afternoon, then we had to come home, boo hoo. 5,400 kms on the bike, one defective almost brand new rear Metzeler tire was the only problem with the awesome 1st gen. the road sofa brought us all that distance, and purred like an angry cat on every corner. p.s. the other couple we were travelling with could not find parts for their HD at any of those towns mentioned above on our trip home. his stator went and none of the dealers or small repair guys had a stator in stock. i unplugged all his electrical loads, ie headlights, lights, radio, etc. i did leave him with a brake light. he bought a battery charger and we topped him up every night at the hotels. cheers, Scott

we started out last friday all sideroads for out trip. we cruised down to lake placid, adirondacks and thank you McBrush we took your suggestion and went to lake George, which was awesome. we cruised the white mountains, crawford notch, then over to portland maine. the rain was south of us, so we headed up to bar harbour. stayed in bar harbour waiting for the catamaran ferry. hotel wanted 128 per night, a couple came in behind us also from toronto and the hotel person told them 79 per night. i guess we still have to do some work on our image. we then crossed into yarmouth nova scotia and cruised up through digby and windsor nova scotia. we had to make the ferry to newfoundland so we got up yesterday, did a 500 km highway run to north sydney and got on 5 minutes before the boat left the dock. we are now at Sherrys parent house, and it is gorgious here. planning to do some lighthouse tours, and some more cruising. about 2400 km on the bike so far this trip. we will be here for about a week. cheers, Scott

buy it, ride it, join the club. i just came back from a weekend ride. i never want to get off the bike. i bought mine late july last year with 75,000 kilometers on it and now have over 92,000 kilometers. (100,000 kilometers equals 60,000 miles.) i have been on many long rides with it and the road sofa runs flawless. it has a wonderful growl when you open it up. i have ridden many big touring bikes, and this one puts a grin on my face every time i ride.

Oil Coming From Center Cover
mother replied to bongobobny's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
had my cover off two times and both times oil came out(once was for the slave rebuild). i would say this is normal. make sure when reinstalling the cover, that the screw with the copper washer goes in the bottom center hole. -
did the progressives on my 86, it used to bottom out, now it rides like a cadillac. also did seals, bushings and damper washers while i had it apart. you need a special tool to take the lower fork bolt out(check out "reelay" article on how to make your own). read the articles that the guys have put in the tech section on front fork rebuild. it was one of the easier jobs that i have done on my bike. cheers, Scott

RSTD cutting down windshield
mother replied to f6ryder's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
i cut about 1.5 inches off mine, like previous threads stated, cover the are to be cut with tape, i used duct tape, mark the line, then i covered with an old towel to make sure i did not scratch the rest, and used the big floor mounted metal bandsaw at work. it made a nice cut, gently filed the edges and remounted. cheers, Scott (i like the scotchbright polishing idea, and have also been told about taking a propane torch and gently waving across the cut edge and it will make the edge look like original, try this on the cut off piece first, as i cannot say that this will work as i have not tried it yet.)- 22 replies

a voltmeter, a few feet of wire, duct tape, i throw in an assortment of tie wraps, couple of bungie cords, i found a set of booster cables that are motorcycle specific and used them to start a newer pig of a bike whose charging system went south. i am like randya and also carry a mini compressor and tire plugs. a couple of screwdrivers, pliers and a few sockets specific to the bike. a cellphone, map and a compass comes in handy, still dreaming of a gps. when i go for a ride, i usually come home a day or two later. cheers,Scott

i usually wear long underwear, warm coat over my leather jacket, throat coat/dickie, insulated gloves and warm socks. i am looking at buying battery/electric socks for a little extra winterizing. like someone has in their signature, quote "98 percent of vr's are still on the road". cheers, Scott:cool10:
