  1. installed the kit, and my wife is happy, whew! it took a while to hand stitch the wire onto a fleece liner that zips out of her coat. zig zagged wire up and down and made one run down and back up each of the sleeves. hooked up to a cigarette plug as i already had a lighter on the back of our bike. cant wait for some colder weather to give it a good test on a longer run.
  2. i have now sourced a left speaker panel from one of our own who pm'd me. i think i now have all that is needed. i should be able to make a latch for the left radio keylock. (the little tab broke off) just waiting for the insurance to settle.
  3. i was thinking if we had one on each side on outrigger brackets, then we could drive right through the winter. i think Ed is on to something here. _/:motorcycle:\_
  4. hi Ed take care buddy, take your time, we dont bounce as well these days. if you need a hand let me know, as i am still off work after my bike accident a few weeks ago. i have just finished sourcing parts for my left side fairing etc, i have a few contacts for when you are ready to start putting the ol girl back together. rest up, take it easy, and get well soon, Sherry sends a Scott and Sherry
  5. hey vermincelli, we are seeing the same thing. the dn-01 looks like what a 2008 first gen would look like with a sport windsheild and no trunk box. l cheers, Scott
  6. yes it is the proper silicone wire, that is why i bought the kit from this supplier as i could not find the proper wire from my local suppliers.
  7. look under the guys listings of his other auctions, he has the same thing for 19.99 also. i bought one of his 19.99 kits. i have not yet installed it in my vest as i just received it about a week ago, but all is there to do the project if you are so inclined. most people i talked to just have an on/off switch on their bought vest, so that is what i plan to do also. i read the article that someone did on the venturerider forum, and this kit includes all wire hookup and silicone wire needed to do the project. i had looked at all my local electrical suppliers in the area and could not find the silicone wire, so in my humble opinion, this is a good deal, and i am happy with what was delivered. let me know how you make out. cheers, Scott
  8. insurance got back to me, over 3,000 bucks damage, they told me they almost wrote it off, and its all cosmetic damage. thanks Venturerider.org members for getting me in touch with places to source parts, and thank you Bongobob for the parts you donated. once the insurance gets their butt in gear and makes a settlement, (who knows how long this is going to take, been 5 weeks already) then i will start making the swap to the newer parts that i now have. *note: i am still looking for the left plastic speaker/panel if anyone has one for sale. cheers, Scott
  9. thanks guys, but we have all the complete cruise pieces off the 86 venture, so we just need to know what we hook the trigger wire up to.
  10. i use a circular saw with carbide tip blade on it. lay a couple of rows of masking tape on the windshield where you want to cut and protect the plexi from being scratched by the saw base. take saw and go across the mark slowly/ take your time as to cut a straight line. then take a palm sander and sand the edge smooth, then take fine sandpaper to finish the edge. this is a real fast and the easiest way to do it. lay an old blanket over your bike while doing this, as you will be making plastic dust/bits
  11. i am extremely happy with my 86, i looked at an 85, but i picked the 86 because 86- 89 had the larger bags and we do a lot of travelling. good luck
  12. did that on the wifes virago 500 a few years ago, i called it an "oil flush".
  13. i am looking at the schematic for the cruise control system and i see that the speed signal is picked up electrically off the back of the speedo cluster. without pulling my speedo off to check, does anyone know if this is a milliamp signal, or a 12 volt pulse that triggers the cruise control box. ( i have a friend with an 85 vmaxx and he has an 86 venture that he wants to pull the cruise off and put on the vmaxx.)
  14. we are too busy out riding our 1 st gens. i have only been home one saturday since april, and that is because we were having a family BBQ.:biker:cheers, Scott
  15. we do not bounce like we used too. glad you are home and typing away. get ready for some achy bones, take lots warm showers and use those ice packs. its been 4 weeks since my slide on the pavement, still a little sore, but healing well. the insurance guy took my helmet and marched right out and threw it in his trunk so i would not use it again. so go out when you are feeling up to it and pick up a shiny new one, they work. you lucked out, no broken bones, definetly someone upstairs was looking out for you. take care.
  16. i have had the front tire off the ground three times this year so far, with the wife on the back, she was not impressed.
  17. my brake fluid indicator light came on a few weeks ago and it is for the linked brake fluid resevoir. the owners manuel says it is for the front brake fluid level, but it is actually for the rear brake pedal. it is the resevoir that is on the right side, below the seat and behind the right side cover. i put some brake fluid in a syringe and topped it up, indicator light has gone out. hope this helps. cheers, Scott:detective:

    Gary N

Hi Gary glad to hear all went well, speedy recovery. i am still off work and doing my physiotherapy and they told me to keep moving. so if you need someone to ride your bike or give your vehicle a good run let me know. and when you said beer i fit that qualification real well. cheers, Scott
  19. with a little tender loving care, you will love this machine. the swaying could also be the steering head bearings, when i took mine apart to check, the upper taper roller bearing was toast. the rollers were oval and not a drop of grease to be found. the bottom one was okay but i replaced both upper and lower. i also installed front progressive springs and it made a world of difference to the front end, the ride is excellent now. like "Buddy" said take the rear swingarm apart this winter and clean and grease all pivots, it was a lot easier than i thought it was going to be. there is an article somewhere in tech section on how to install grease nipples, which i also did while i had it apart. i have loaded up my handlebars with drinkholder, GPS mount, and i am thinking about adding heated grips. this site will help you along the way, any questions throw them on the forum and you will get answers from experienced guys and gals. cheers, Scott
  20. Plastex will be in stock on tuesday, Relic you were right, web site tells you what store to go to, you go to the store and they do not have a clue what you are talking about, give them a product number and they look it up and magic, they do carry it.
  21. hopefully a speedy recovery to both. lots of rest, ice packs and tylenol 3. our prayers are with you.
  22. i only have your girlfreinds number?
  23. it is close Port Perry, hwy 7 and hwy 12. next week is their last week for the season. they had 1300 bikes last week. there are 50/50 draws, prize giveaways (this week was head bandanas and free tickets to mosport race this weekend), live music, great food, vendor selling t-shirts, 3 harley dealers with wares for sale. there was a 1936 bmw there, a few victorys, one 2nd gen with a scratched up fairing, and whole bunch of beautiful 1st gens.
  24. i walked into a local auto parts store and there it is, a display stand wth Sea-Foam products. he said he has been selling at his shop for 15 years. if anyone is interested pm me and i will pass on the address. when i was down in the USA visiting Bongobob recently, i bought two cans of the stuff because i had not found a distributer here, and this guy is almost in my backyard. the stuff does work, i had a hesitation around 2500 rpm, poured in half a can on a full tank, ran it through and the problem seems to have gone. next tank i am going to put the other half can in. cheers, Scott
  25. i think it was father and daughter ride night. i went up to Hagens restaurant for their thursday night bike ride in with my daughter. who shows up but TFD69 in between one of his many rides, showed up with his daughter also. then who rolls in but Chubaka, i mean Chubicheka, great to see you again. then there are a couple of 1st gens that roll in, a gold 85 and a black 83. i gave the father and son the web site and hope to see them on here. there were also a couple of v-maxxes and i was suprised how well we got along and had many things to talk about. great night, great food, hope all got home okay. cheers, Scott
