  1. Wow. One car was stopped waiting for the light and got hit by two others. If that had been a bike even being completely stopped feet down would not have saved him. I have never liked red light cameras but day by day I am being converted. Mike
  2. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family and friends. Mike
  3. They had the lowest price and now you want exceptional customer service as well. You got your jackets at a very good discount. Why give yourself heartburn because it turned out not to be the lowest price ever for all time? Be satisfied that you did your homework and bought at the best price, largest discount available on the day you forked over your money. If you want to purchase a couple of spare jackets for when yours wear out, this sale might be the time to do it. Or they could be less in a couple of years or months. Or they could be more. Their response while short and not very articulate answered your question. Live with it.
  4. Regular fuel ignites easier than premium. So your bike should be easier to start with regular gas unless the timing is way advanced. If you are not getting knock the premium fuel is probably not helping your mileage either. If you are getting knock find what's broken and fix it. Mike
  5. Nitrogen does not burn until temperatures reach somewhere around 2500 degrees f. That happens in the combustion chamber of your engine and the result is NOx. So far that has not been an issue with my tires. Mike
  6. Love my 08 RSV but the overall fit and finish on the my friends 09 Harley Ultra is better. The Harley has more options and accessories available for it. Harley has done a better job on the Ultra of staying up with technology than Yamaha has done with the RSV. The off idle ride on the Ultra is very smooth compared to the RSV. Lets face it, the vibration dampers on the handlebars of the RSV are there for a reason. The biggest difference though is my RSV actually cost me over $10K less than his Ultra cost him. For 10K I can pass on the fuel injection and anti-loc brakes. Even though his gauges, saddlebag guards and passing lamps were standard mine didn't cost enough extra to affect the price offset. Also I like the retro dash, the shaft drive and the V-4. Problem is when it is time to trade in the RSV what is there to upgrade to?
  7. Thoughts and prayers from Miko and I. Mike
  8. First it is your bike. You bought it so you get to complain about it and except for the seat, which I always liked, I had the same concerns as you. After I bought my 08 I wondered if I had made a good choice. For the first two thousand miles the bars seemed to far foreword, the seat to high, it needed 6th gear, it was sluggish on excel, it's top heavy. Then I broke down and bought a cheap tach. It is digital, has a one wire hookup and only cost about $20. What I learned is the RSV has a sound all it's own. What I thought was a comfortable rpm is actually lugging this engine. So I developed a new riding strategy I call 'gear down'. Whatever gear the bike 'sounds' like it should be in go down one maybe two and ride there. WOW after six thousand miles this is the best riding bike ever. Much better on the curves and more responsive at all speeds. Absolute joy to ride. And the gas mileage even went up. Go figure! I am still getting used to the sound but now it is music. All the other issues just seemed to fade away. Mike
  9. I have a 2008 Venture. It's like a big toy. You have to wind it up and let it go. Mike
  10. A year ago a friend and I both purchased new bikes. He purchased a Harley Ultra and I got the RSV. The dealerships are right next door to each other and are in fact owned by the same person. Over the past year I have watched his trials and tribulations at the Harley Store. They lied to him on numerous occasions. Charged for work they didn't do and did poorly those things they actually did attempt. My dealer service department on the other hand has been exemplary. While not cheap they do the work they are expected to. Complete it on time and take the extra steps to make sure I am satisfied. Each time my bike was worked on it was completely washed before I picked it up. They offer customers a free wash anytime the bike is dirty and even opened the offer up to include my friends Harley. So good service is out there. It is a matter of finding it. Poor quality control stems from management. Mechanic/technicians should take the extra care to make sure little things like putting a pad under parts on the bench are done each and every time. Shop managers need to instill this in their employees. There is absolutely no excuse for employees lying to try and cover their butts. Again it is a management issue. If it wasn't condoned employees wouldn't do it. Mike

  12. Well mine is a second generation but it does have a backrest. With the kickstand down I use the left passenger floorboard to mount and dismount. Sure makes getting on and off easy. Since my memory isn't so good anymore I let the kickstand switch shut the engine off.
  13. Ok for those of you who have never done so try purchasing some nuts and bolts or any other small part from Whirlpool. Makes Yamaha parts look cheap. Mike
  14. Yes Yamaha Sports Plaza http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com
  15. CCA 'cold cranking amps' and 'ampere hour' are the two things to watch out for. They equate to 'how strong' and 'how long'. But above all there is quality of construction. Unfortunately I know of no standard measurement for that other than referrals. Mike
  16. I really like the CB when riding/communicating with other bikers. It is easier than a cel phone and works when there is no cel tower near by. Meaning in the mountains and off the main track. Mike
  17. Yes, that can be done. There are perimeter anti theft security systems available that could work. The wisdom of doing this could be another matter though. Mike
  18. Sorry, but the system does reduce emissions. Excess hydrocarbons are burned in the exhaust not just diluted. The cool part about this system is there is no cost in horsepower. Repairing the system should be relatively easy. The excessive popping in the exhaust is caused when an overly rich fuel mixture or sudden surge of hydrocarbon (gasoline) meets up with air in a hot exhaust. Deceleration causes a momentary surge of unburned fuel in the exhaust. More than the system is normally designed to handle. Enough that it could cause damage when combined with air and ignited by the heat of the exhaust. That is why the system switches off during deceleration. During normal cruise operation the AIS can reduce hydrocarbon by as much as 80%. Sometimes even more. A dyno and a gas analyzer can show this up very quickly for those who don't believe in it. Again the best part is there is no loss in horsepower. Mike
  19. The AIS is a simple siphon system that siphons air into the exhaust to reduce emissions. It has a couple of 'reed valves' (one way valves) to prevent exhaust pressure from being pushed back into the AIS system during exhaust pressure pulses such as on acceleration or cruise. It also has a vacuum sensing 'air cutoff valve' that shuts down the AIS during deceleration, high vacuum, to prevent backfiring. A faulty reed valve can cause system melt down from exhaust heat being pushed into the system. A faulty air cutoff valve or vacuum line to the valve can cause backfiring during deceleration. Just a note here backfiring occurs in the intake manifold. The exhaust popping is from after burning. So you will see it referred to as 'after burning' in the service manual.
  20. Turn the IC volume to zero and see if it goes away. Mike
  21. That is realy a nice trike. mmmmmm Mike
  22. Loc-tight on aluminum is a dangerous thing. Mike
  23. It looks like this one might be the antenna and or cable. The SWR and power meters were jumping all over the place when the cable was touched just below the antenna. The service department at RMC has been most helpfull and parts are on order. Mike
  24. Ken Sorry to hear of your mishap. I hope your wounds heal quickly and completely. Mike
  25. I ran into this exact problem on another Venture last night. I am still checking it out but it is definitely not sending out a signal other CBs can pick up. I have not determined if it is a bad connection somewhere or if the xmitter is weak. Power out seems reasonable but it may be drifting off frequency or loosing modulation. I will post when I get it figured out. Mike
