    My bike handled lousy with Avon's.. I had used 40 psi front and 42 rear. I was disappointed when I only got a little over 10K on the rear. I came to find out that I should have been using 50 psi on the rear..I ordered a new set of Avon Venom's and put 50 psi in the rear and it now handles like I knew it should..Made a tremendous difference to the good..

    I agree. I had a vibration on my 1st gen that I would have sworn was in the drive train, like a bad U joint etc..Someone on this forum suggested syncing the carbs and when I did the vibration was gone.. I'd at least check the sync if for no other reason than to eliminate that as the potential problem..

    You didn't mention what wt fork oil you put in but under the circumstances I'd try a light weight oil like a 5wt, even a 3 wt..

    I assume you loosened the 4 allen bolts and raised the handlebar..If that didn't do it for you then I'd suggest risers..I added 1 1/2" Barron risers and it made a world of difference...I love them but some others don't...

    I tried Avon Venoms on my 09 RSV..They were fine but I was disappointed in the mileage I got out of them...10,500 on the rear and 11,000 on the front.. I put another Avon on the rear because I might have used too low of a tire pressure (40 PSI) the first time around....I upped it to 50 lbs..I changed to a Metzeler ME 880 on the front.

    I'm sort of conflicted...I had a Metz 880 rear tire chunk out at 6K on my 1st gen..However, the front tire lasted for 31,000 miles..That's the most I ever got out of any tire..I swore off Metzeler 880 but I'm rethinking it now.. I just installed a Metz 880 on the front of my RSV. I previously had an Avon but it only lasted for 10,500 miles..We'll see how this Metz works out.

    They're not partial to only 2nd gens...I had a Metzeler 880 chunk out on my 1st gen at about 6,000 miles..

    I had issues with the actual mileage and the gas guage also...After a fill up sometimes the first bar would come off at 50 miles (normal) then the next time at 20 miles and sometimes at 5-10 miles... Luckily my bike is still under warranty so the dealer replaced the tank sending unit...That did the trick.. What I'm suggesting is it could be a bad sending unit..When they go bad they seem to do so in an intermittent fashion..

    Rick...Look in the tech library..there is an excellent article on how to make leveling links... I followed those instructions and made a pair and had them installed in less than an hour and it cost me less than $10..

    My 09 RSV came with wind deflectors already on it...I'd ask your dealer why yours didn't have them..

    As a thought.......Next time you're in the U.S. you ought to buy a dozen NGK's or have a friend ship them to you....

    I came to find out that I was running too low of a PSI (40 lbs) on my rear Avon tire...It only lasted 10,500 miles....After discovering my error I'm now using a higher PSI (48-50 lbs) as I should have been doing all along.. I'm expecting 14K or more this time around..We'll see

    I bought my 09 RSV in April 2010..I now have 29,000 on it and my goal is to hit the 100K mark.. I've gone over 100K on my first gen 86 Venture and also an 87 R100RT airhead BMW.. I'm getting up there in years and don't ride as much as I use to but I'm determined to make 100K on my RSV..And then some

    I cut the bezel so the risers wouldn't hit it..My steering now has full unrestricted motion and I can lock the steering with the ignition key...

    While you're having the tires changes you might want to have the wheel bearings checked while you have the wheels off.... Although at 20K the bearings should still be good but you never know...

    Yep, a thinned walled socket, a swivel or U joint and a long extension w/ratchet... I can change my plugs in about 15 min

    I'd do two things..Neither will cost you any money.. 1) Do a carb sync 2) If you still have the problem..tighten the steering head bearing If neither of those two do the trick then I'd consider a tire replacement

    Personally I'm not a Corbin fan and by the mere fact that your buddy is selling the seat I'd guess he isn't either... I have an 09 RSV and the best accessory I ever bought for it was a Russell Day Long seat...Pricey to be sure but worth every penny IMHO

    Oh ye of little faith....I brought my bike to a Yamaha dealer..I doubt they'd charge for work they didn't do especially since I bought the bike from them...You may need a magnifying glass but check out the service order..

    I don't know where that $700 amount came from....I just asked my dealer how much it would cost to grease the upper and lower steering head bearings..He looked in his labor book and said it is a 2 1/2 hour job..at $88 hr. or $220.. Probably to remove/install the races is another hours labor plus the cost of new bearings but still you should be able to get the job done for around $350-$400

    I just got my bike (2009 RSV) back today from the dealer (Michael's Yamaha, Reno, Nv)..It was getting the 26,000 mile checkup... Part of the checkup I chose to have them do was greasing the S/A bearings and retorquing the swing arm....I was charged 1 1/2 hr labor for a total price of $127.50.. I do most of my own maintanence but from the sound of the previous posts on this subject I'm glad I spent the money and had them do it...

    I tried every device out there and then some to make my ride more comfortable...The closest I came was a air type cushion but even that got uncomfortable on long trips.. Finally I decided to "bite the bullet" and get a Russell Day Long Seat...Yes it's pricey but in my opinion worth every penny I paid for it...This is the first times in over 30 years that I have ridden with nothing between my fanny and the seat, don't need one anymore... I just took a 2000 mile round trip (in April) to Phoenix and the seat was comfortable the whole time....

    I'm also 6'5" and love the risers..After I installed them I lost a few aches and pains that must have been due to reaching....I also added larger grips to accommodate my large hands.. You might want to try different positions on your handlebars....One other thing I did that made a hugh difference in comfort was getting a Russell Day Long Seat..It's about 4" higher than the stock seat and MUCH more comfortable..It was pricey but the best investment I've ever made..
