  1. PS wirring may have been your cooling fan???
  2. Yah! Hard starting hot is a common 1st gen issue, usually the fault of the inadequate battery cables, but not the sole problem. Do an upgrade on the bgattery cables to heavier gauge first, and pay attention to the cleanliness of all the connections of the battery cables, ground connections of the cables, and starter solenoid and starter motor. The second thing to consider is upgrading to a stronger battery, or, switch to a 4 brush starter. The real issue is pretty much strictly in the starter motor circuit with loss across contacts and cables as well as less efficient 2 brush starter mothr. The Vmax and 2nd gen starters are all 4 brush and are a direct bolt on...
  3. Go to user CP and select edit options (I think) and you want to enable your subscribed messages, or something like that. A lot of us don't bother with that because we are totally addicted and are on the site at least once a day if not several times...
  4. OK Dug it out of the storage shed, but now that I look at it I would have designed it a tad different but here ya go. I'm thinking this was probably designed to fit into a Standard. I actually bought it for the dash pieces it was attached to!
  5. Yah! What George says! With external audio input jacks, we can help you pipe in your intercom and CB as well if you use those. We can tell you which wire to hook where, you will have to do the actual wiring yourself or find a local electron head to help you with it. Another thing to look for is External output if you want to hook up the system to headsets but the output has to be "variable"...
  6. It's flat, painted black, and cut out to fit the dash piece. Has a Sony X plode unit in it at present, which was how I bought it. It would make a perfect template to mass produce. I'll take some pictures of it this afternoon...
  7. Yah! the Squidmeister is young at heart!! How's the work on Roxie coming along??
  8. Well, presently it is collecting dust in a drawer! If no one else chimes in the offer stands! Option 2, paint your chrome cover, which does indeed get scratched up, either to match the bike or semi gloss black...
  9. You're not the first person to have this problem!! I know of a couple of other members with similar stories! Yes, it should be replaced under warranty. Not the whole rear end, that is not necessary to fix the problem, just the bad parts...
  10. Same here!! Works fine, had it installed from the factory for maybe about 2 months before I installed the air horn... EDIT: Oops, I don't own it as of an hour ago...
  11. Well, I was planning on mounting my stock one on my trailer to make the whole thing look like one big gas tank, or experiment with to come up with pod mounted gauges, but if you can't find another, I guess you can have mine...
  12. Yup, sounds like it works normal!! There is a mod you can do to make it an "on the fly" adjustment, but myself I'm not too keen on the concept! The last thing in the world I want happening is to be in a tight turn and have my suspension charactoristics change because I hit a bump which caused the switch to make momentary contact, etc!! Not a good idea IMHO...
  13. For an '89 the price is reasonable but if part of your air suspension is setting inside your trunk as you state, then that should lower the price, but not be a deal breaker. All the CLASS (Computer Leveling Air Suspension System) does is to give you an onboard compressor system which is mounted UNDER the trunk on top of the rear fender which automatically enables you to add or remove air from the front and rear shocks while the bike is NOT running and the key is in the AC position. You can not adjust on the fly. The compressors themselves need periodic attention, the air lines can dry rot, and as mentioned the electronic controller can develop issues, but the main and common one is the solder joints on the main conector for the PC board. Earlier Ventures, non Royales, called Standards, did not have the CLASS and you had to manually adjust your air suspension with an air pump, just like what ALL 2nd generation Royal Star Venture owners have to do . The 1st generation Ventures were one of the best touring bikes ever made, and are very reliable. It is not that uncommon to get 200,000 miles out of these bikes. As with any bike, a certain amount of maintenance is required. There are really no major issues but there are some common problems that can develop. As with any old bike, they can require a monetary investment to keep them in tip top running condition. They are a lot less expensive than new bike payments for sure! Welcome to the Venturerider family, and there is a lot of technical help here as well as a LOT of friendship to be shared! As long as the bike is running now and wil pass inspection I would not be afraid to purchase it, and feel free to call on us for help!
  14. I'm a little unclear as to what exactly the problem is. Are you saying that the problem is the speakers or there is another problem besides the speaker? As stated, you can get replacement speakers from a lot of sources such as Wally world, etc, and some aftermarket speakers are better than stock. I have a few stock ones you are more than welcome to, just stop by on your way thru and pick them up. If you are having other problems besides the speakers and do not use the Intercom or CB I have a metal plate made up to fit into the existing dash piece and you can put in any radio you choose. I also have a spare amp unit that I don't know if it works properly given to me by Dingy that would only take a few minutes to find out if it works...
  15. Oh, WOW!!! Good thing I decided not to add the floorboards and gas tank this year...
  16. Bingo!!!!!
  17. Hey Buddy!! Welcome to the world of Trikes! Hope it works out for you. Looking forward to riding with you this coming season!!
  18. YIPEE!!!! Never underestimate the power of prayer though. Sure, Facebok helped, but it was God answering the prayers of His faithful!
  19. I just replaced the PCV hose (along with all the other hoses) on mine and I just used standard hose stock from Pep Boys. The trick is to clamp the hose on to the airbox first, then feed the hose down to the breather manifold and with a set of long reach pliers clamp the hose onto the Tee. Just don't forget to put the clamp on the hose first...
  20. It's those darn Pygmies again Tom!! We need to do a little target practice!! One of those must have followed me home, I have an ear infection and I'm rescheduling my cataract surgery. Of course that means I'll be off in April now, warmer weather...
  21. Another vote for Rotella synthetic!! Mobil 1 is good too, but the Shell seems to be more popular with bikers...
  22. If I recall right, we did an emergency repair on Mother's scoot, his bolt broke in my driveway. All we did is replace the bolt with the right size thread and length and then McGuiver'ed a collar using aluminum tube stock cut to length. To my knowledge it's still holding, but your fix is slick too!!
  23. Yah!! Need a new one on the front of the trike very soon! Gonna try a rear tire mounted backwards on the front. Saw Continental has the needed size in whitewall, and last fall they were around $150. probably up to $160 or more by now. You are right, and it's only gonna get worse this summer...
  24. And the good/bad saga continues!! Scored a new Norelco on Fleabay for $56 including shipping last nite, list $90. Woke up this morning with a nasty ear infection which I need to clear up by Thursday morning so I can have the cateract removed in my other eye. Plan on buying a new omputer Thursday as well, a HP with 23" HD 1080 screen, quad core etc that's on sale at BJ's for $50 off or $749. I have a credit card no interest until next February, already have this spring's Bike goodies on it to the tune of around $800 and still have to buy a new patio dining set for the deck/gazebo so you visiting ventureriders can set around and eat and shoot the bull around...
