I sent a PM to a few of you and decided that a thread may work just as well. Becky and I are going to the Toronto Bike show next Saturday, and Motorcycle Tom and Amy are riding up with us. We plan on leaving here around 9:30 and should be in Toronto around noon depending on whether we meet up with anybody on the way. Sure would be great to meet up with you fellows! Maybe we could have a mini M&E someplace for dinner as we are going home in the evening. Let's get together! PS any of you WNY'ers going let me know so we can caravan up...

The TCI relocation is pretty much straight forward. There is enough lead length but you may have to reroute it slightly for extra room. You have to break off one of the "ears" to make it fit on top of the airbox and get the false tank cover on. A single self tapping screw and a washer is all that's needed to secure it to the top of the box.

I'm not an expert on this but I wonder if the cruise will work right with the vacuum advance being 180 degrees out of phase from the rest of the years. The '84 and '85 had cruise as well but the on indicator light was on the dashboard. That should be no biggie though, any light bulb mounted anywhere should do for that but did the '83 have the reed switch for speed on the dash? I think the cruise parts are the same for all, just a different connector on the MK2 and the vacuum diaphragm mounts different. Mine is just dangling at the moment as I changed my fairing subframe to a MK2 for the headlight conversion...

Yup! Shoulda bought a DEKA. Earl, skydoc17 here on the site is a distributer for them and gives a good price shipped right to your door.

Welcome back Chaharly!! Yup, you done good fer sure! The only thing to watch with the '83s is a known frame issue where the rear shock mounts. If the rear all of a sudden feels mushy that's probably where the problem lies. Also, your TCI can only be changed with another from an '83. Happy riding!

Uhhh, Earl, maybe that big white thing next to his bloomers might make a big enough Toga for him...

Security system, worth it or not?
bongobobny replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, you can install a hidden kill switch if you are that worried. A good strong cable lock will slow down anybody trying to just wheel the bike off but remember, even the best alarms will not stop anyone who REALLY wants to steal the bike... -
Awwwww Crap!! And I bought a new Malibu this summer! Funny thing, we were just talking about this subject at work today. A worker's 2007 Nissan had a burnt out headlight and according to the owner's manual you had to remove the headlight. In reality it was accessible from under the hood. The guy who replaced it for him said that I would have problems when I have to replace one, but he thought I had an Impala. Guess it's true for Malibu's too! Hmmm, wonder if my bumper to bumper warranty will cover it! So much for converting to HID...

Yah! you get what you pay for! It all depends on how much use you give it and what you expect out of it! Sure beasts using a hand drill but if you are looking for precision work it might not live up to your expectations. Myself I have a Cummins Tools drill press but all I expect it to do is drill perpendicular holes for me...

Ignition issues 83 Venture
bongobobny replied to jeffg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Although one pickup may be bad, I seriously doubt it but rather suspect a bad connection at the connector for the pickup in the harness. You may want to check the continuity of the pickups at it's destination rather than the connector. Also, TCI's are known to fail. The '83 will only work with a TCI from an '83. If you find it is your pickup I think I have a spare set for you. Just PM me... -

Yes it will fit Ray, but good luck finding one in perfect shape. They are on Fleabay all the time. -
