LMFAO!!!!! I could use a couple of those items! Unfortunately they are sold out of the most useful item...
-

Ok first off, 8:00 is about the latest we would want to do so that's fine, thank you Ben! Sorry, we were both working today hence no one to answer the phone. Now, Evan, sounds great! We could meet at your place prior to going to the show if you wanted to go. For the rest of you, let me know if you want to meet up along the way so we can make arrangements...

Actually, back in the day (60's and 70's) when I was working on jeweled meter movements the best thing to do was to leave them dry and as clean as possible. Most cleaning solvents left a film that would add friction to the jeweled bearing, as it was a point of contact bearing. Not sure if that applies to the tach or not but it is in effect a meter movement as well. The real source of a jumping tach is the number 2 timing signal being intermittent, usually at the TCI connector...

MKII VR Rear Caliper Inspection!
bongobobny replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yup! I have seen what you are talking about Earl, and it is not limited to Yamaha or motorcycles. Usually on automobiles it appears on the caliper mounting arm but sometimes you can see it on the caliper as well. I usually just file them flat, but that leads to a loose fit. I generally grease the mating surfaces with a good waterproof wheel bearing grease... -
No can make it this year, it conflicts with Americade schedule...

Oh well... Motorcycle Tom has some other $3 off coupons, he should check them as well...

Hmmmm, Saturday's games are a tough choice. Gotta give credit to Cinci for having a lot of heart and a vast improvement over the last couple of years but it's gonna be a battle for them to beat the Texans. The Saints aren't the superbowl team they were so they are on a downhill slide wherre as Detroit is on the upswing so I'm going with the Lions by a slim margin. Sunday's games are IMHO a little more obvious, Pittsburgh is back, and I personally feel the Giants are going to play a better game than Atlanta...

Just got a PM from Evan, he is out of town but will be back tomorrow. He's interested.

We may actually make it out there some year. This year is pretty full but maybe next year or two...

Well, I agree about Progressive but not necessarily for the reason KIC gave but who knows, maybe it is true. I do not like Progressive because I feel they are scumballs and lowlife when it comes to settling claims honestly and more importantly fairly! I have barebones coverage on the '84 costing me $86 per year because I don't ride it lately, but for the trike I have Nationwide only because they insure our Autos and home as well. Never in issue with them and NEVER a problem with a claim. As a matter of fact I had to use them to sue Progressive when one of their "clients" made a left hand turn in front of my wife nowhere near an intersection...

Starter gear assembly question
bongobobny replied to jeffg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
'fraid so! Of course you could always install the newer style switch along with a Royale wiring harness and switch out the dash to a newer style, then also add cruise, radio, CLASS... -
It was a sad end to my day
bongobobny replied to mini-muffin's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
So very sorry to hear of your loss, Mini. At least he had along life. I never got to meet either of my Grandfathers and only one of my Grandmothers, on my mother's side, and she passed when I was young, so you were fortunate to have him a long time. -
Starter gear assembly question
bongobobny replied to jeffg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
While you have that apart, see the switch in the middle of the picture held on with 3 screws? Take that off, clean the contacts and reassemble with a dab of dielectric grease. That is your gear selector switch, and by servicing it now you may avoid problems later... -
That being the case then Saddlebum should be the expert for places...

Welcome aboard! We're not real fussy as to where you post, and you kinda asked a technical question so you are in the right forum! We are always glad to offer advice and share our technical expertise! For what you paid for it you could double and triple your money in parts alone. The issue with the '83 was a weak point on the frame where the rear shock mounts. Be sure to check this thoroughly, and while you have the motor out, you may want to research this and do mthe modification to the frame while it's apart. Many of us have spare parts so check here first if you need any. The Royale came with an audio unit consisting of AM/FM radio, cassette deck, and intercom on one side and the air suspension controller on the other side. There were also badges to say "Venture Royale" to boot.

Yah John, Brad mentioned you might be going. Sunday would be out of the question for us as we have to work Monday and we get up very early in the AM. The dinner can be anywhere reasonably close to the QEW, I'm leaving those plans up to you Canadians. I'm sure someone will come up with a place during the week...

The bike of a life time may have to go.
bongobobny replied to slick97spirit's topic in Watering Hole
Sorry to hear things are not going so well. Sometimes you just have to be greatfull you are able to get out of bed and take on nourishment! If things get really rough, remember you have family here... -
Great story Carl, except Brad PM'ed me last nite saying he usually goes to the one in Michigan and he wasn't sure if he was going or not. He did say a couple of the Kitchener group may go...

You're welcome Mark! I know we have talked in chat a couple of times but it also seems to me we met in person once, like MD or maybe the International at the Hub or Potato Creek or somewhere. Soooo many great people here at VR it's hard to remember everyone...

I have a set from when I hit the deer that you can have. They are a little bent, probably from the tow truck securing the bike with them, but I'm sure they could be straightened. Just pay postage...

Great pictures! You just sold me on getting Flanders bar in the future. Also liked the weights and extensions which would work out really great on the trike! I'm sure I will be bugging you for more information when the time comes...

Sort of like driving thru shaving cream, eh?

OK this is starting to shape up. We expect to hit the show around 1:00 and Saddlebum said he may meet up with us. Dinner could be as late as 7:00 to 7:30 keeping in mind we have a 2 1/2 hour ride home and we are getting to be seasoned citizens. Not real fussy about where as long as it's better than Burger King or Mickey D's...
