Dano needs our prayers
bongobobny replied to Freebird's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Man Dano, am I ever glad to hear from you again!!! I consider you a truly great person and I am also proud to call you my friend! Haven't posted much in this thread but have been reading it all along and praying for you as well. Hope to see you in person somewhere next summer. -
Very funny Brad, very funny. No, I meant the riding position...

As far as the frame issue on the '83 it is a problem with the frame itself where the shock mounts, not an issue with the shock. Some of them have had the frame fixed. If it does crack you won't crash and burn, your handling will just go to pot. The swing arm is not effected so the wheel won't fall off or anything, it will just ride terrible and act like you have no rear suspension at all because for all intents and purposes you won't...

Yah! It took Honda to make a 1500 before it could keep up with a Venture! I'm slightly surprised she found the Wing more comfortable than the Venture but then again mine has the trunk moved back 6 inches, has armrests, and passenger floorboards. Overall I like the riding position of my 2nd gen a little better than the 1st gen even though I added floorboards to Goldie as well. The one thing I don't like about the 2nd gen is it seems a tad wide for me. I'd like to swing a leg over that wing next summer, not necessarily to ride but to see how comfy it feels! I've always been a fan of Wings. I would have loved a Valkyrie too but the Venture was the first good deal I came across when it came time to replace my old Honda CX650 Custom. I fell in love with the Venture waaaaay back in the 80's when they first came out...

That's some interesting valve linkage there! -
I gots a old computer in my closet I don't use any more! It's white sorta (pale grey) and is looking for a new home. It's from this century... Becky says a woman can never have enough jewelry. Must be cause she picked out diamond ear rings this year!

In NY you have to surrender the plates if you do not reregister for whatever the reason. Of course they charge a couple of dollars to surrender the plates! You can always register the vehicle again but you get different plate numbers...

pdf is generally the best way to scan documents, however if you do jpeg you can compress and/or resize the image...

fork air inlet
bongobobny replied to Yamamike's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
In a word, Yes. There are inlet holes under those "clamps" that the air hoses are connected to... -
Yah! That snowstorm was pretty crappy! We were both out in it with no snow tires, not fun at all! The next day it pretty much all melted. Guess who put snow tires on this weekend...

It's the only Harley I would be interested in owning! I agree with you, the small block 350 is plenty fast enough! On a side note I've always found it disturbing to call a 350 or more so the 400 a small block...

Yeah! What he said!!! Sounds like you now need to put some miles on that scoot and enjoy what it was designed for, touring!! There are a lot of events you can come to next year startring with Maintenance Day at Freebirds, the International Rally in June, and closer to you the Pork In The Pines at Whoomp's place in northern Minnesota. Congratulations on all the work you have done so far!!!

??? What exactly are you trying to do? You can adjust the position of the bake pedal with the adjusting link if that is what you are trying to do...

There could also be an issue of the left and right front shocks not having equal air pressure which could make the tire scuff a little more on one side than the other when going over bumps. There is an equalizer kit out there for the front shocks. That is one thing where the 2nd gens are not as good as the 1st gen's as theirs are equalized. Cheaper, better, faster...

I wouldn't give it a second thought! Sure, it is an old bike and ANY old bike can have problems, but the Venture is designed to get on and ride across the country. Take a spare set of plugs and give the tank s couple of treatments of sea foam before you go. If you have never changed it, put in a new air filter. Oil change before you go. New plug wires is a good idea as well especially if yours are the originals. Flush your brake and clutch fluids if you haven't done so yet...

OK My feelings on the subject but I'm no expert. As far as the crack, to do it properly you need to chisel or grind a V trench into the crack to properly fill and bond it. As far as sealing the concrete I think it is a good idea as it will seal moisture from the outside and it should prevent black mold. Myself I would use more of an epoxy sealer like what you would use on a garage floor than dryloc if water in the basement is not an issue, but it will be more costly but a lot more durable...
