  1. I've had days, weeks, months and even years like that...
  2. If you have a plain old charger you should have no problems charging it. If you have one of those new high tech ones like mine it will give you problems. The hi tech ones think the battery is no good and will shut down when there is nothing wrong with the battery. Don't ask how I know this...
  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Freebird!!!!! 1 year closer to retirement... :group cheers:
  4. the issue is probably with the calipers not completely retracting most likely due to buildup of crud on the pistons. First you will want to remove the calipers and then torque down your axle and see if the binding goes away. This will confirm that the issue is a clearance issue and not a wheel bearing issue. If it is indeed a caliper issue then there are 2 options. Either rebuild the calipers or sand down the pads a tad to give you the needed clearance. There is a third possibility and you need to determine which caliper is hanging up worse. As you are aware, the front master cylinder controls one caliper and the rear master controls the other. There may be something restricting the return flow of hydraulic fluid to the master. When was the last time the brake system was flushed?? On the rear controlled one the occlusion may be in the proportioning valve...
  5. No, you should remove the dash piece to replace the outlet. There is an outer cylinder that screws onto the inner casing with the dash piece captured at the top. Unless you are talking about the waterproof cover for the outlet, that should pop off allowing you to plug in your GPS, Cell phone charger, IPOD, etc providing the plug is wired up... Oops! I just carefully reread your first post and I assume you mean that the outlet is there but like in Mike's case no wires are attached. You will be best served removing the dash piece and the false tank cover to wire it up. I would go with a new waterproof outlet as the old one is over 20 years old and probably corroded. One nice thing about wiring directly to the battery is you can then plug a battery tender in there when storing the bike! As far as a fuse value, unless you are using it for a cigarette lighter, a 10 Amp or even a 5 amp fuse will suffice. If you plan on using it as a cigarette lighter then a 20 Amp will be more appropriate...
  6. No, it is a DVD available on Fleabay geared at the VMAX carb rebuild but is applicable to Venture as well. This guy has a spare VMAX engine he "bench tests" and sets up the richness mixture. He does a complete step by step disassembly and reassembly instructional video. He also has one for the engine...
  7. Are you going to install plugs so you can monitor CO2 to adjust the carbs mixture like the guy did in the video? I've been toying with taking an old set of exhaust manifolds and doing that... Yup, I just may contact Mark for a set !
  8. I like the yellow one better...
  9. Keep us posted Jack! Need you around so some year I can actually meet you face to face...
  10. There is a certain amount of adjustment available with the controls. I requires loosening a bolt then sliding the whole assembly forward or back. It will require that the linkage is also adjusted. The handlebars are also adjustable! You eed to consult your owner's manual. Don't have one? I think there may be a copy here on the site somewhere. Any other adjustment beyond what is allowed is strictly up to your McGuiveer'ing instinct...
  11. Welcome back Charlie!! Looking forward to riding with you soon!
  12. You can always gently drop the bike on the crash bars one side at a time to minimize spillage...
  13. Well James, as long as there is food on the table, clothes on your back, and a roof over your head then the rest is luxury. Yes, you need basic transportation so the car should be your main priority. We respect your wishes to not offer help this time but if you ever have any genuine need please feel free to turn to us, we are all family!
  14. Yes, interesting read!!
  15. Yah! I came very close to buying one of those 1100 Virago California Specials myself once but the dealer wouldn't budge on the price so I ended up with an '83 Honda CX650 X instead...
  16. More than once Frog Man, more than once...
  17. Don't forget the frogs have to freeze three times before it's safe to plant...
  18. Then you will want to make the Thursday breakfast run to Spragues then!! I am ride Captain for that...
  19. California Sidecar makes an outstanding conversion kit for the Wing and you may want to look there as well! My Venture is a Hannigan hack and overall I'm pleased with it but have a couple of minor issues, mostly with the rear brakes. Mine has a T Bird rear end with Honda Accord transaxles but the stock rear master cylindr does not have enough volume for standard Accord calipers so they use Ducatti calipers mounted on custom brackets and use a special rotor. I am in the process of converting to a larger rear master and then switching to stock Accord rotors and calipers. The Hannigan has independent rear suspension and a wide stance. I strongly recommend getting the front fork rake kit. Also check into a reserve gas tank. Their floorboards are really nice and strong!
  20. Yup! The CB needs to go thru the amp to be heard and to speak. If you can find an aftermarket radio with preamp outputs then it could be patched into the amp thru the DIN connector from the radio tuner box that is bolted onto the amplifier chassis. The controller box for the tuner is the little plastic thing with the push buttons and display. The actual tuner is a chassis bolted next to the amplifier box...
  21. I would replace the upper and lower triple tree bearings including the races. That 27 year old grease is most likely hardened glue by now! Also a must do is rebuild the front forks with progressive springs, and finish off the rebuild with a "Condor" brace! I never had any issues with my 84 running freeways at 80 all day 2 up towing a trailer. I ran Dunlop E-2's first then E-3's so I can't comment on other brands other than Brickstones SUCK!! You may want to look into the rear shock. Run it around 45 lbs with the damper adjust on 2 or 3. You might want to take your rear shock linkage apart as well and make sure all the bushings are free and well greased...
  22. I use snowmobile gloves myself when it's in the 40's and 30's and they work out fine for me...
  23. Agreed!! I have found absolutely nothing in the rules that you have to own a Venture to be a member of this fine site! Heck, we wouldn't even care if you rode a Wing, a 'Glide, or a scooter! You could always do like some of us have done with our top heavy rolling barcoloungers and convert it into a trike...
