No, I used organic pads direct from my local Ducatti dealer. The wear is not the issue, it's the noise!! Also, like you I suffered the dreaded "Rotors grooved up" syndrome as well. We had a trip to make before Hannigan could get the rotors to me so that's when I discovered via the local dealer about the source of the calipers. He immediately recognized the pads and had several different ones for me to choose from. I think he said it was from the "Monster" and other models. bought 2 pairs, one semi metallic to deal with the grooved rotors, and the organics. After the new rotors arrived I installed the organics. Rotors are still fine but the rear brakes have made that terrible squealing sound pretty much since day one...

Hmmmm, didn't know Hannigan didn't want it done that way. As Larry said, ain't a heck of a lot of weight to worry about! Maybe they are more worried about the safety aspect???

Hmmm, and I've been jacking up mine from the rear differential all this time. Kind of nice that way as it comes straight up, and get it high enough you can lean it from one side to the other with the front end so you can stick a jack stand under there...

I am presently using a Dunlop E-3 rear tire mounted backwards on the front. Unlike my D404 which hardly lasted a season, the E-3 lasted all last year and there's still plenty of meat left on them! Yes, I wish I could find a car tire as well because the front tire does not lean like a 2 wheeler any more, which is why the fronts burn out so fast. As your front tire wears, you will develop a lot more instances of front end oscillation...

OK the Hannigan calipers are from a Ducatti, or at least the ducatti pads fit! The issue with the rear calipers is that the stock RSV master cylinder just can not deliver enough volume of fluid for the Honda calipers so they make up special brackets to mount the ducatti calipers on where the Hondas would mount. Unfortunately the stock honda rotor is too large also, so they put their own custom made rotors on which have a smaller diameter. Thanks to Carbon one, he found larger bore master cylinders from Jeg's that bolt right up where the stock RSV is mounted. I am presently waiting for mine to come, and then I will switch over to Honda parts, but I am going to spend the extra bucks for EBC slotted and cross drilled rotors and most likely some kind of aftermarket calipers as well that will bolt right on. I will be starting the project in the next week or so and will take pictures as I go. I absolutely can't stand the noisy squeaky stock Hannigan rear brakes and am disappointed in that aspect!!! The Master cylinder I bought is a 1 3/16 bore with a 1 inch stroke... Oops 1 1/8 in bore...

Clutch master rebuild kit
bongobobny replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That's pretty much it! Use a vacuum pump and it will be easy as pie. You may also want to install a speed bleeder. A speed bleeder is just like a regular bleeder but it has a one way valve in it which allows fluid to flow one way onlt, out. No air gets sucked back inside when you release the clutch handle. You micht want to prime the master cylinder before you reattach it back to the hose if you remove it to rebuild. Just put some fluid in the resovoir and pump the handle a few times until fluid comes out the end... -
I am newbie to RSV but needing info about a 02 RSV

Swing a leg over and see if you like it. If you do then buy it, it's a good deal for the mileage. You will find it very comfortable and smooth running. A word of caution, they are top heavy and don't handle very well at parking lot speeds until you get used to them, very easy to drop under 5 mph, but if it does decide to take a nap on you just let it go, it will stop on it's crash bars and not go any further over. These bikes are designed to get on the highway and go all day! BTW welcome to the site and you will find it very informative and extremely helpful. You will also find the members very friendly and hospitable! -
Clutch master rebuild kit

While you have the master cylinder apart, you want to inspect the bore for pits, ugly scratches, etc, and hone it out if possible. You need a very small hone to do the job. Just plain replacing the old rubber helps, but if you really want to do it right you should hone it as well. Yes, hopefully for $39 you should get new seals, new piston and new c clip. I found sears craftsman c clip pliers seem to work the best... -
Frame interchangable?
bongobobny replied to HotRodYJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That might be a viable solution! It might be a good idea to get an '84 up frame as the '83 had issues with the frame at the rear shock. I'm pretty sure the frames are the same for the MK2 as well with the exception of the rear sub frame and the fairing frames being different but the '83 will bolt right on. Yup, $1000 for a good running Venture is a great deal!! -
$1,400.00 and still don't run

Yah! Sounds to me as the shop did a poor job of rebuilding your carbs if they even did it at all! As stated the primary jets are probably still plugged. I'm wondering if they actually removed the carbs and disassembled them and properly rebuilt them, or just ran some carb cleaner thru them via the fuel line similar to how fuel injectors get cleaned. It's a tricky process to properly reassemble them and mechanically sync them as well as sync them by vacuum. Also the richness jets need to be set up with a CO sniffer for peak performance and economy. You might want to consider a complete set of carbs from a known running bike off of fleabay or other sources but even then it's a crap shoot as to whether you get a good set or not... -
Well, here's hoping for a successful "s*it and git!" Glad to hear things are gettring back to normal!

Yah! I'm retiring in September and I was just looking at the financial picture. Seems as we will have to live on just a trad less than I make now, but with the price of gas we will save about $75 in gas a week. Unfortunately, the trike does not get any better mpg than my Malibu does, especially 2 up hauling a trailer on the interstate...

My personal feelings are they look better with the whitewall, especially the wide ones, but it is just a matter of personal taste. My main interest in tire choice is durability first, then cosmetic appearance...

Great find Rooster!! We used to belong to Sams as well as BJ's but dropped our Sam's membership several years ago. I'm sure we know someone around here that is a member. Keep us informed, I like the blue ones myself...

I agree! They may look cool but you reduce your ability to see and be seen...
