  4. I'm also wondering which blinker fluid is better for quieting down noisy muffler bearings, the organic or synthetic? I read somewhere that blinker fluid works great for keeping the bearings spinning and preventing them from clogging up...
  5. And did this certain unnamed member pay his $5 OOPS fee to the site???
  6. Actually as I get older it's harder to pick up a Venture, 1st gen or 2nd gen even with the described procedure!! Those puppys are almost 900 lbs! It seems as I almost get it up but need just a slight extra push sometimes! That's why I always have the wife with me...

  8. Other than that, generally it is just a matter of changing a jumper or two on the radio PC board. No, sorry, I do not have a manual or the specifics but maybe either Yamaha or Clarion may be obliging...

  10. OK so believe it or not, Becky is not real excited about the Mall Of America so we will be taking I90 straight across Minnesota so sorry Bubber, no Sunday shopping trip!! I'm thinking next year for the PIP maybe spending a day there instead either before or after going. Things are shaping up quite nicely, just have to go into work Tuesday to officially retire then hit the road Wednesday morning probably around 10:00. First stop Bloomfield Hills Michigan...
  11. Thanks Bob, now there is coffee sprayed all over my monitor...
  12. Yes, what you ride is strictly a personal choice and you should choose a bike by how it feels to you!! In the past I've always picked a bike by how it felt when I swung a leg over and went for a ride. When it's the right bike for you, you know!!! That being said, it's not necessarily Harleys I'm not fond of, they are an OK enough bike, it's the Harley "Mistique" that turns me off. What I have to laugh at is the younger crowd with the Harley clothes and the HD sticker on their window and you ask them what kind of Harley do they ride, and the answer is "I don't own a bike, but if I did it would be a HD..."
  13. Yes it is for the mileage and condition as long as it's not a scam!! Low mileage bikes have their own unique set of problems like dry rotted rubber, crud in the hydraulics, carb problems, corrosion, etc. Also the '83 has a frame issue at the rear shock, and the notorius 2nd gear issue...
  14. Yup!! Definately a carb problem! They don't like to set for great lengths of time without running! Yes, start it and literally flood it out with a massive dose of seafoam. Start with a nearly empty tank of gas and pour about a half can into the gas tank with the engine running while revving it up. Once it stalls out let it set for a day. Drain remaining seafoam out of gas tank and start with a little fresh gas. Restart and repeat above. After the second time thru put fresh gas into it along with the normal ratio of seafoam and gas and drive it like you stole it for an hour or two. After that you should notice some improvement. Word of caution, you may need to change the plugs again after that treatment as the seafoam will loosen a lot of crud from the carbs and possibly foul out the plugs. If the problem still exists then chances are one of the little diaphragms in the choke circuit may be defective or the expert who rebuilt your carbs in the first place wasn't quite the expert he thinks he is...

  19. ya done good on the price, Phil!!! Can't think of any 1st gen parts I need at the moment...
  20. One more vote for trike here! Siudecars are kind of cool, but you have to learn to "fly" the thing for proper motorcycle performance, and you turn real great in one direction, but not so great in the other! Yes, there is a learning curve with a trike but once you get used to it the big dawgs have a hard time keeping up with you! Plus, you can go on all sorts of terrain and surfaces with no worry whatsoever. Sure, it's an expense, I have over $30,000 in mine, but I know there are bikes out there that cost more than that! You should be able to pick up a used trike for half that in very good shape! I would stick with metric trikes though for reliability and longevity, Gas mileage will definately go down the tubes but the joy of driving them is well worth it! Just putting around back roads I get around 30mpg but 2 up towing a trailer on the superslabs at 70+mph drops it down to around 20...
  21. No I haven't but there were several times in my life that if I would have had one I would have given it away ("I could give a rat's a$$")
  22. Yup!! Bad kickstand switch!! You can start in gear with kickstand down IF the clutch is depressed. As soon as you let go of the clutch, you lose ground to the ignition circuit. If the kickstand is up the ground comes from there...
