  1. When I get back from a 3500-4000 mile ride starting next Tuesday, I am going to order the V Max rear gearing. I run better and get good mileage with fourth gear at 70 mile per hour.
  2. I believe that it could be correct since I looked at one for a friend with only 5800 miles documented by the sellers dealer. I only had four oil changes. BUT my 02 had nearly 78,000 miles when the dash and speedo crashed. I have a new speedo with an additional 49,000 miles. I have an affadaived from the dealer showing the true additional miles. If I were a nasty fellow I could advertise this machine with only 49,000 miles. You are better off to look at it and decide for yourself.
  3. I will get to Omaha on Wednesday, God willing, but after 1150 miles I will be saddle sore. Maybe on Thursday we could get together.
  4. OF COURSE! It is my means of transportation.
  5. It wasn't me but next week on the 10th, 11th and, 12th, I will be in Omaha for my 50th grade school reunion. Then I will be off to Dallas, TX.
  6. I have never had any problem with Dunlop D404 WWW on my bike. They get slightly less mileage than many but due to the original cost, they cost maybe less per mile than the Avon. I just got back from Rolling Thunder XXIII and spent 150 miles in driving rain and the new Dunlops I put on about 1000 miles ago performed perfectly.
  7. I am confused, did the extra light you have all over the back of the bike come from a previous owner or is this a new bike? The rocker switch you installed may be faulty or a bad ground, but I never use this style of switch. Do the function lights come on and the LED in the switch just blinks? I like the marine grade switches with a rubber boot over the toggle. Then I put a pilot light on the dash which signals whether it is on or off. Best of Luck
  8. I appreciate your offer, but I have other arrangements. Maybe some others will take you up on your offer. Don't shoot yourself in the foot like I did, but that was before I put on the badge.
  9. If you haven't proposed yet, she doesn't have any say-so. My wife took over my life in 1970 six months before we were married. But before I proposed I made it clear that motorcycles trump love and commitment. I sold my Harley chopper just before the wedding . She let me buy a used Honda CL 77 (305) in the fall for riding to work. Mighty decent of her .
  10. I too am all packed and loaded on the bike. All that is left is my diddy bag and the clothes on my back. Bike is backed into garage and all ready for a 6:30 AM departure. This year I am bringing both my STAR vest and my Patiot Gaurd vest so I will be ready for anybody. Only glitch was that I found I left my switch on acc. last night so I have a dead battery on charge right now , but at 2 amps. it won't be too long. Everybody have good motoring and please be safe!
  11. The locals don't ride the "Dragon", they prefer "Blood Mountain" and others.
  12. I was very excited in 1999, when my wife said I could buy a Harley Ultra. I made the deal and was happy with my blue and silver 96 CI bike. In the next 8,000 miles I was left stranded in five different cities (Dalla, TX; St. Louis, MO; Pittsbugh, PA; Raleigh, NC; and Columbia, SC) all because of faulty stators. I got no help from Harley Davidson since they were selling the heck out of bikes at this time. Bottom line, I sold it and bought an 02 RSMV in 2001. I am still riding this bike with 126,000 miles on it. I bought it for $13,500 because they weren't popular back then. Now, you, tell me that I lost money. This has been the most economical vehicle I have owned since a '71 Beetle. And it's more comfortable for touring than my GW 1500 or 1200. I will wait for the newest Venture, whatever it may be.
  13. Purchased 2001, RSMV, with BUB pipes. Today, 5/25/2010, 126,000 miles and fun. I know that all bikes need attention, but this machine needs very little. Butt Butler seats, and RSTD handle bars with some chrome and leveling links and I will be riding for years to come.
  14. Yep, I can see Boomer CPO and Squidley doing the rotation tango!
  15. Phil, you need to make many more rides to honor our fallen soldiers. It is good for the soul.
  16. And I will be a VIP escort also (formerly Gold Star Mothers), like I have been for many years. Look me up, I will have Patriot Gaurd on the back of my vest and I will be riding an 02 RSMV with Sylvester and Tweety on the tank.

I still use this on everything and will until they discontinue it.
  18. As far as I am concerned, this is the way to go. PCW has the product to do the job. When I re-did mine last fall (including new plates) I felt like I could raise the front wheel.
  19. Yes I have a suggestion, ride to D.C. on Sunday and partake in the tribute to our fallen and forgotten soldiers (called Rolling Thunder 2010). It will give you a new perspective on your freedoms.
  20. I use the Mity Vac on everything with hydraulic lines. Great on the clutch also. It is a good buy at any price.
  21. Where are you staying and what group are you with if any? I will be riding up on Friday and staying in Springfield VA.
  22. And the rep. said the msrp was $695. That puts it in the dealer at about $625.
  23. I woke up this morning and decided that I would go to the big city. What a great event! The sponsor dealers were fantastic and I saw all the new merchandise for firearms, scopes, lighting etc. This was a huge event and according to the Charlotte city people the largest event ever held in the city.

It will take the dye because I have done it on my 02 RSV. You must thoroughly clean it to remove any oils or wax build up. I did mine last winter and only have two spots that I need to touch up. I used Leather World in Roanoke VA for the material.
  25. I would never own another Harley. My 2000 Ultra left me stranded five times in 8,000 miles. A Kawasaki may be good or a 1500 Gold Wing.
