I tried the Dakota but I could not fit in it. My head was against the roof and my sholder up against the window. I wound up with an 02 Ram 1500 with the small 8 (4.7 liter) and a standard 5 speed. It is a 4X4. I am very happy with it and 4 of us recently drove from Saltspring to Thane Wyoming in it with no problems. We averaged 22 MPG but that is mostly highway driving but we did cross the north Cascades.

On my 02 the warning comes on just after I have run out of fuel. The first indication I get of low fuel is when it starts to sputter. I switch to reserve and find a gas station. After I have filled up and started off again the low fuel warning comes on then goes out a few miles later.

Two favorites, Arsenic and Old Lace with Cary Grant and Bella Lugosi and Some like it hot with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. I especialy liked the Are you being served where she was late because the postman had to pet her wet pussy (cat that is).

I did it once. My '85 Suzuki Madura was good for 150mph and I redlined it going over the Malahat. When they built that bike (a v4 of course) they tested it at 14,000 rpm with no trouble. It had a red line of 11,000 for the street and an electronic cutoff at 11,500. It pulled strong right up to the cutoff. It was just one of those days where everything was perfect. I did have to slow down briefly at one point. I glanced at the spedo, I was crawling along at 128 mph! It seems I passed a cop at the top of the "Hat". He spent years trying to nail me. I finally sold the bike because the speed and power were addictive and I felt I was getting too old for that kind of thing. Despite my mothers predictions about hangmen and nooses I have managed to survive so far.

Honda has released their own "production chopper"
Sailor replied to AmnChode's topic in Watering Hole
I like it. Nice and clean. BUT how much horsepower does it make and how does it handle? -
Got a call from a friend in Winnipeg ( AKA...Winterpeg) It was -51F, we were at +40F that is a difference of 90 degrees. We are leaving for Cabo next week.

Backup heat??? I just tell SWMBO her ass is getting big. The resulting burn can heat the whole house. JUST JOKING!!!! Our back up heat is electric. We haven't used it in 15 years. Our main heat is wood stove. We use about 3 cords per year. If I bought it it would cost about $600.00-$700.00 per year but I mostly get the wood for free so it is worth the effort. One advantage to the wood stove is that if the power is out we can cook on it.

I quit when I was 16. I took a look at the people I was with and asked myself why was I smoking, I didn't even like it. The answer was to make me look big. I figured if it took something that small to make me look big I was pretty small. I quit right then. I have smoked a pipe but then I could no longer get the tobacco I liked so quit. I do enjoy a good Cohiba on special occasions, once or twice a year, but that is it.

I get mine from the Legion. They are about 6" in length and fasten with velcro. I put them on just above trunk height and keep them from sliding up or down with a few wraps of electrical tape above and below. The velcro is loose enough to let them unwrap themselves if they do wrap up, as when you pass a semi.

Merry Christmas to one and all.

Some other nautical terms No sense flogging a dead horse. Not enough room to swing a cat. Three sheets to the wind. Scuttlebutt. Between the devil and the deep blue sea. The devil to pay. Over a barrell. Don't let the cat out of the bag.

Actually the brass monkeys were hoops attached to the bulwarks alongside the cannons. They were made of brass because brass does not expand and contract much. This is also why portholes were made of brass. So the glass would not be broken by the contraction. When the ships went north the iron cannonballs would contract, iron does expand and contract, and fall through the hoops. I have heard the idea of the squares on the deck but it does not make sense as the ship heeling over would spill them across the deck.

Major disaster hits Saltspring! Saltspring Islanders hold candle light vigil. Last sunday Grace Point square closed down. The roof on Auntie Pestos resteraunt collapsed. it was one of the best places to eat. Water lines were torn out and other businesses were flooded. They are all closed. Water hit the transformer which blew up spewing lethal PCP's, black smoke and flames into the air. The disaster? The liquor store is in there! It is closed for at least a week, possibly longer! I hate snow!

SWMBO informed me that we would not be exchanging gifts this year but we could have stockings. OK, if that is what she wants. She also informed me we would not be having a tree. OK, saves me some work. Two weeks ago she sent me out to get a tree. One week ago she pointed out what she would like for Christmas. When I said that I thought we were not having gifts she said she did not want me to be disappointed. All bought, wrapped and under the tree, including the ones I bought in September.

Back about 78 we had a real freeze. The lake in front of the house froze so thick there were cars driving on it. My pipes froze and I was chopping through the ice to get water. It was over a foot thick and the hole would freeze up 2-3 inches overnight. Haven't seen it like that since. There is a real difference between dry snow which they get inland and the wet stuff we get on the coast. You can easily drive in the dry stuff but the wet stuff is like grease.

We got hit hard (for a place which can go for 2-3 years without snow). Got about ten inches and still snowing. Set a record for low temperature night before last -10. It is -4 now. Some years all we get is some frost. Main problem here is no one knows how to drive in the stuff and there is not much in the way of road clearing equipment. All the roads are very hilly and winding (great bike roads in the summer). If we do get snow it is usualy an inch or two and lasts a day or two.

Every so often we have a party and mix up a seafood chowder. Pretty much anything we catch. Mussels, barnacles, sea cucumbers, clams, cod, etc. plus mozzarella cheese, butter and white wine. The recipe varies but it is always good.

I had knee surgery a while ago. If you can't get Vicoden then Scotch works.

Hey Kevin...tell me about it! We were at the Sarah Brightman concert at the memorial arena Saturday night. They lost power for about 1/2 hr. We stayed at the Harbour Towers and their van gave us a ride to the arena and said they would pick us up afterward. When we called for the pickup they just laughed. Can't realy blame them, it was nasty out. We had to walk a few blocks in the snow before we got a cab. The drive home to Saltspring was interesting. Glad I have a 4x4.
