  1. Got a friend in Portland Or, If you'd like I can ask if you can drop ship there and go pick it up. Wear it home, how is customs going to know you just got it?? five hour drive though!
  2. Ok, It's been a long day, I am tired and getting frustrated, so before I do something I regret ...... I bought an inspection mirror to see what I could see, which is about nothing! went ahead and dropped the exhaust again and because I had a hard time getting the down tubes back in the collector I figured I'd check on new gaskets for that, just in case. For whatever reason, I chose to bring the collector along to the dealer, and ask them their opinion on the gaskets. As the non-mechanic they looked alright but the mechanic who helped me didn't take long to point out that the gaskets should come all the way to the top of the sleeve. So, of to the parts counter to bite the bullet. Imagine my surprise, $15 each for the ones on the intake side, they only had two though. Got those in and rode the bike, may be onto something here, so I went to order the rest. They had the ones for the pipes; $10.00each, left in stock and when I picked up the other two they discounted them to $22. As far as prices I got lucky, $180 worth of gaskets for half price. Now the irritating part, putting it back! Is there a preferred way? I am fighting this thing! If I install the downtubes in the collector i can't get the front pipes in; if I install the front pipes in the collector, I need to take the downpipes (and manifold?) loose and try to fight them sum'birches in. It would be nice to get all this back together, while remaining sane, unhurt and no damage to the bike, least of all my new gaskets. It'd be even better if that solves my excessive heat problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hope the weather allows for some riding tomorrow.
  3. David, Had to stop at Verizon to get my wife a new battery, Alltell phones can not be activated on verizon plans. Sorry, but thanks for the offer. Bongo, let you know if I can't find anything local.
  4. did you explain you are offended that you are not allowed to use a handle you've had for 35 yrs. or would that be akin to reverse discrimination ....
  5. Don't hold me to this, but it seams that if you run the battery too far down it won't hold a charge. maybe you should put it on a trickle charger overnight and see what happens in the a.m.
  6. Wouldn't worry about it, as mentioned you can try pulling the baffle out (tried that, no luck), or let it rattle for a while, eventually it'll lodge somewhere and shut up. Unless you plan on cutting it open and re-welding it and soon before the baffleplate gets rattled to bits, I'd leave it alone since pulling the exhaust it a royal pain. My
  7. David, I saw you're planning on going to Savanah, if I don't have one by then i'll give you a shout and maybe you can bring it? Thanks.
  8. Where you went wrong was not to sue the daylights out of the schol for providing an unsafe work environment and the parent for whatever, failure to disclose a dangereous situation maybe. You'd be sitting on roses:mo money::stirthepot:
  9. You need a dictionary for that?????
  10. I'm looking for a old Verizon phone, the idea is to activate a new line on my account and transfer my business landline to it to save some $$$. The phone needs to be able to make one (yep, one) call, and one call only as I plan on routing all traffic to my cell phone. After that, the screen can go blank, the battery c an die, the keys can get stuck and anyting else that can go wrong. Since I am doing this the "frugal way" anyone within, say SC, western NC, Northern Ga or eastern TN, preferred so I can basically get it at one of the M&E's. that don't work I suppose a padded enveloppe would work too. I can get a $20 phone from Verizon but don't want to sign a contract. If you have one, or know someone who has one; great! If not, Oh well!!
  11. :innocent:In other words it's an ego thing:stickpoke: Had a flight instructor many, many moons ago who used to say "anything between 8 and 80, as long as there's a ...ummmm, ....... errrr........ " Well, you fill in the blank. Meat is meat, and I'm guessing younger is better.
  12. As a non-hunter: what difference does it make if the critter is 1-1/2 or 5, meat is meat, isn't it??
  13. it is, if you read through to page five or so, the cat's out of the bag. Apparently an old one at that
  14. google! copy and paste
  15. Hey, I heard that they admitted that excess regulation is killing small business there, probably on the back page, but maybe it's progress??!!
  16. I've got one, if you want it, make a donation to St. Jude's (Dragonrider) and pay shipping.
  17. So Brad ..... I may have missed it, but, did you or Lonna get a job down there, or are you figuring you'd rather be looking down there then up in MI? Either way, good luck with the move and the new job!!
  18. Brake control is a matter of muscle control for your leg(s) I have no problems with it (6ft and 32" inseam). At one time Bongobob had a set of pegs floating around, if he still has them, you may be able to get them from him.

    lean angle

Working on the sidecar mount. (And yes, the wife found out:o , and i'm not in the dog house:cool18:) I bought a leaning sidecar, the trike shop I am dealing with to help with the mounting hardware is telling me that the maximum lean i can get out of the unit before I start crushing things is about 22 degrees. I am afraid that is not enough. I think I ride pretty conservatively and I don't like the notion of scraping pegs but I am afraid 20 some degrees is insufficient. Based on some eyeballing I think 35-40 degrees is about it for the VR. A similar limit on the chair would be nice and some back to basics checking on my side with assorted dowels would seem to indicate that I should be able to get that without damamge to either bike or chair. I.e the shop's CAD/CAM program imput parameters appear to be flawed for this application.
  20. Anyone know what the maximum lean angle is before you start dragging boards or pegs (on a 1st gen)? Thanks!
  21. I've got boards under my shifter and my ankles won't allow me to flex enough to operate either shifter or brake without lifting my foot of the board. It is really no issue, during acceleration I keep my toe on the board and drop the heel down to shift and I just pick my whole foot up to either downshift or brake. My only "complaint" is that the boards are so close to the controls that I can not use the entire board for my feet.
  22. When this heat issue first started I did not hear a difference in exhaust sound, I did find a crack in the downtube, sound levels did not change with that fixed. I would say that when i load the engine up (i.e. to high a gear for speed) It does seem to sound more throaty. How much of that would be related to a leak or to an overloaded engine I do not know. I would agree that it would seem you should be able to hear a leaking exhaust, but than I did have that crack in the downtube .... The engine temp gauge runs about a needle width above horizontal under most conditions. Slow traffic and stop in town riding will run it up towards the red and the fan does kick in. After leaving town the temp gauge will return to it's normal position. The gauge also climbs up from "0" during warm up. I drained and replaced the coolant with engine ice this past spring. The reservoir is also full. I considered the thermostat being bad, but would the engine temp gauge not fluctuate while driving? I've considered the pump being intermitent, but that would raise the same question, wouldn't it? Perhaps I should also note that the engine does not smell like it is overheating. I can't tell if maybe I screwed up when putting the down tube back in the collector (my head's too big), so I'm going to take it all apart again (have to install the new regulator anyway) to see what I can see. Maybe I get lucky. Thanks.
  23. June 12 .....June 12 ......now why does that ring a bell???? Hey!!! Is that our anniversary!? I can just see it, Honey, I'm going to maintenance day.... Should check on that! Hmmm, that ain't it ... wonder what it would be...
  24. What??!! And have to start all over getting my sidecar mounts (which I still don't have)?? Nice try though, but I think I prefer the frame mounted fairing, so maybe: a Vision?, or a BMW? :rotfl: Way down in the future!!:mo money:
  25. Thanks Buddy, I have both the heavy plastic heat shield over the valve cover as well as the metal shield behind the down tubes. the search goes on.
