Two weeks later and it's getting close. Asked John (the guy I bought the chair from) to call the trike shop, they spent a productive hour plus on the phone discussing mounts, wheel lead and such, and things started moving from there. Beginning of this week the shop said they might have it ready yesterday (10/29), or today. Didn't pan out. Bummer!! Would have loved to have the whole weekend practicing. Oh well!! Maybe Monday??!! May just have to take a day (or two) off to ride.......

Thinking more along the lines of "Hobles". Hey Dan, maybe you ought to consider slowing down and allowing your body to heal??? Just a thought. Take care of yourself.

back when i started riding in the early 80s everyone would wave by raising their hand up, now most all drop their hand down. Interresting how that changed over the years.

Ride safe!! And good luck!

you didn't say if it includes direct family ... If so, I have a son in the Navy and a step son in the Marines! Whatever you're planning, know that I appreciate it!

I'm glad this turned out somewhat OK, but!!! For the heck of it:... who's going to pay for this, your M/C insurance; your homeowners, his homeowners, him?? What if you would have had a neighbor who suddenly thinks he's hurt and thinks that somehow this is your fault? Just playing devils advocate here ......

Hm, for a hitch hidden under saddlebags and a fender as well as the interior frame of my sidecar, I can see that as a great alternative, but what does it look like? Is it shiny like paint/powder coat? Aesthetically speaking I don't care for the visible portions of my sidecar frame to look like they're covered with a rhino bedliner.
-
Did you powdercoat that thing and would you mind telling how much that set you back (+/-) I'm wanting to powder coat the frame of my sidecar.

Just got my renewal from SafeCo and it went down to $224/yr full coverage for a '89 Shadow and a '83 VR. State Farm quoted $500 for the same thing.

"patience my a$$, ... " Rained out two days this week and Tuesday it took me 10 hours to do 3 hrs of work. And it's not even winter yet! Temper is getting a bit shorter so the lack of progress on the chair is annoying. The trike shop that is "helping" me build the mounting hardware for the EL is sooo slow, and they aren't exactly booming with work. The owner, an engineer, has spend more time to do a CAD drawing of the set up and now, a full day of research on leaning sidecars (including patent searches), then he has builing the blasted sub-frame/mounts. It took me 30 minutes with some leftover lumber to determine what is possible while he took a full day to say it couldn't. Now he's researching how other leaners hook up, when all he needed to do was contact the guy I bought it from (who has almost a decade experience with leaners!) Even his fabricators says he tends to overanalyze everything! I know, good in one sense, but they have no experience with sidecars, so even I know more, but he won't listen. Send him an E-mail stating what I want him to do, no answer; ...(yet). And on top of that his shop man is going on his honeymoon next week, so unless they did anything usefull on the frame today, it's going to somewheres around the end of the month! Aaarrrgghh!! I'm going to kill something now .....

Yeah Marg, but the way they phrase it, it's first class all the way!! Nice to have you back on the board Tony; but if you're working, why sell the bike? Want something faster??

replace the valve stem? i had a tire leak down and it stopped after this simple "fix"

For all those interested, BMW in Greer SC is hiring 700 people at $13-$14/hr. They are saying manufacturing experience a plus. The job fair held today showed 600 folks. If you're interested go here: http://www.mau.com/pressroom/ not quite the right page, but you can take it from there. Good luck.

Hmm, good question! Is Kodak American made??!!!

If you miss out, I've got one I can sell you (black), just let me know. Brenda has no issues with mine, I like it for the support and the fact that she can't squeeze me to death:ignore:

What?! ... you want a picture of my license???
-
Hey Gunny, Just came back from the DMV and discovered that! The are now instigating a SC3 rating (or something) for sidecars but couldn't tell me what it entailed since the examiners haven't received any training yet and won't start getting any for another two weeks. Since I didn't tell them whether I had a license they did tell me I could get a permit and ride the bike and sidecar on that. Still would need a separate MC license if I were to want to ride without a chair. This thing is going to look wicked Even before matching paint!!

Keeping my fingers crossed that I may be able to get my sidecar hooked up soon so decided to look into licensing in SC for sidecar riding and found that there are two categories for sidecars: detachable sidecar that is always attached and sometimes attached. Guess some politician figured another way to seperate us from our money. I know there are some sidecarists in SC, do you have a class M with D or C and I can't find info on the three wheel tests. 'Preciate any help!

Reminiscent of the Dustbowl! Didn't they show something similar on the news just the other day from around New Mexico or so?? The place that picture is taken from 'd be the only place to experience that from, wouldn't care to be in it!

Unfortunately, on the other side of the coin, with blue tooth technology, bikers are getting in on the talking and driving bit as well. Actually know a young man who used to text while riding a crotch rocket. Thankfully he doesn't ride anymore!!

Isn't that the noise resulting from the straight cut gears? If so, are you wanting to argue that the entire production run is comprised of lemons? no offense, but sounds like a personal issue,

My first VR (back in '83) had 14K in 4 months, the 650 Virago had 32K in the 8 months prior to that. In fairness, it was a 75 mile commute one way and 7 days a week. don't think I'd care to do that again:smilies6:

can you clutch and brake at the same time with that thing? Unless the picture does not show well, I'm surprised at the control angle on that thing, I would have thought it would ride closer to the bottom of the grip. Good luck getting it sorted out.

Took a deep breath and took my time yesterday a.m. After a lot of back and forth (fit this, thighten that, loosen that, refit, re-tighten, loosen again, fit better, tighten better, ... well, you get the picture) I got everything back together. Actually went relatively easy, couple of times it just seemed to fall in place unexpected . The big question of course is, "did it fix my problem:icon_smile_question" Let's say that I am cautiously optimistic. Last time I thought I had it fixed I rode close to 150 miles before I detected excess heat and so far I only have 120 miles, but, unless I post on this thread again, this one's done. Thanks to all who have offered suggestions and/or advise, next is a front tire and the sidecar, then on to the carbs (I think she's running rich -soot)
