The more I hear about this Rotella 15W40, the more I am inclined to get the oil for my Venture. Advance Auto in our area recently had a sale of the White jugs for $9.99/Gallon. SAMs is just $10 bucks and some change per gallon...Rotella dino 15W40 will for sure be in my bike next month for an oil change. However, since it is 15W40 and I do ride in 20 degree weather...will the oil weight matter at all? Perhaps not? What do you guys think?

I just knew something was not right. To my understanding a repo person will not reposses an item as long as it is inside 'your' property...they know the law. Once outside of your property, the said item can be repossesed. I may be wrong...but the bottom line is I'm glad to hear that the bike was found and the bad guys identified. Always lock your bike even if parked inside a garage. Ride Safe.

I'm in for that. Who's cooking the meat?

Does 25 inches of snow and -40 windchill sound fun to you?!?!?!

If I was a Penguin, heck Yeah!!!!!!!! -
First of all, I hope you can find the correct replacement for your helmet lock. As far as the helmet lock is concerned, I've never really paid attention to the bolts that hold them in place. Is this a typical occurence? I hope not. I'll be checking those bolts, when I arrive from work.

Front and rear tire pressure
N3FOL replied to Chiro's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Yamaha Manual will say otherwise in terms of psi...and we all know that the spec. is too low even for me. I think Yamaha Manual recommends 36 psi Front and Rear. On my current Bridgestones aka rockstones:crackup:and currently 11K + miles on the rear, I've been running 37 Front and 40 Rear. IMO, as long as you do not exceed the tire manufacturer's maximum psi rating and take into account the load rating of the tire...you should not have any problems. Of course, the more pressure you put on the tire, the longer your tires may last as long as you can take a little bit of harshness on the bumps. E3s are widely accepted in this forum. Ride Safe. -
I also know the feeling there. We are just a little more fortunate over here compared to your location in S. Dakota. This morning was just flurries, but it was enough to wet the roads and make it treacherous for a bike ride. My consolation...I was able to ride to and from work for about 55 miles. If I were you, I'll spend time with your bike and give it a nice wax and polish on the chrome.

Final Drive/Drive shaft help...
N3FOL replied to jrcain32's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This part of the job is something that I need to remind myself. My question is...to remove the '3 Long Bolts', do I have to do something with the shock itself while the bike is up on the jack/stand? Are the bolts easy to remove? What I can probably do is to just clean around the bushings and apply grease and then clean the bolts and apply grease. (during my rear tire change) -
Or Start Walking. Anyway today, I rode in to work. Wind Chill in the teens, but the Gerbings kept me warm and cozy for the entire ride. I think I was the only rider within a 50 mile radius.

If you could have one new accessory added what would it be?
N3FOL replied to Yama Mama's topic in Watering Hole
I've been wanting that for the last three years. -
We have a 30% chance of snow later this pm. 30% is so small that it might not really happen. So if we don't get anything today, I will for sure ride tomorrow to work. My Gerbings are ready to go this winter. Winter riding is my best time of the year...you hardly sweat.

Happy New Year to everyone as well. Glad to see Equal Opportunity for the sexes. Ride Safe all year long.

I like to get a set of nice LED side markers that are plenty bright...preferably much better that what is available right now for the Venture. Will wait until Custom Dynamics come up with a nice set for our bikes. -
ok folks, here is mine.

That sounds a little odd. On my bike, it is a left over '07 and I bought the bike towards the end of '08. Since it was bought in '08 as a new bike, my 5 Year Warranty will not expire 5 Years from the date I purchased the bike.

Are you talking about the plug on the side of the 'jug' that one would normally pull out during a coolant replacement? Glad to hear that the issue has been resolved and covered under warranty.

This is the part that I have not really paid attention to. I know it is a gamble, but I keep on telling myself to always keep track of my key...in the long run, it can be trouble/misplaced key waiting to happen. I will have to think hard about this and try to come up with a plan to carry a spare (I just hate carrying extra keys). The idea of hiding it 'somewhere' is on top of my list.

Why...Where...Who...What...How((?)(?)(?)(?)(?))

As expected, you will always pay premium price if you get it from a dealer. I guess the only good thing is that your spare key will have the Star Logo on the Key itself. The Locksmith may not have those beautiful looking keys like the OEMs.

Congrats on all of the things you have accomplished for your health. Stay with the program and don't let yourself slip. I am sure you already made some important changes in your daily life. Regards.

Sounds like you are back to normal. No worries now. 2 Weeks of not starting the bike is way too long, IMO. As soon as you get the opportunity to ride with all the roads clear enough, give your Venture a nice ride...bundle up.

If you decide to follow this, make sure you have a fire extinguisher close to you.

I also wasted my money on a pair of battery operated heated gloves. They are never warm enough for me especially for riding. The best that money can buy for heated gloves would be Gerbings. Riding at 20° temps and below - you will want something that will keep up with the cold. I also prefer a direct source of power coming from the bike for extended 1 hour or more trips.

My newer cars are equipped with Bluetooth and they are programmed to synch with my cellphone automatically everytime I get in the 'cage'. On my older car, I have a Bluetooth earpiece that I always use. I practice this safety feature and I expect that every driver on a 'cage' do the same. I heard that cell phone ban is strictly being enforced in the DC area and anyone caught using a cellphone (not hands free) in DC will surely get a citation and a hefty fine. It is a matter of time that Bluetooth will be standard equipment on all vehicles...right now it is an option. I know it is adamant for people to follow safety rules in terms of cell phone use, but we should all contribute to this cause. As a rider, I always see people talking on the phone and driving and steering with just one hand.

Riding my moto is a large part of my daily life, so it is logical for me to check this forum everyday. I just wish this site would support Mobile Internet users...I do use my Blackberry to check posts everywhere I go.
