  1. It is up here in the mountains (NE GA) and I don't have all the right cold-weather gear! I gotta agree with Jack! Heck, I'm going camping in the mountains (NW Ga) this weekend! You must bring in everything you need, including water and a shovel for your latrine. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_2_106.gif And the only reason I'm not taking the bike is too much to carry (I like my comforts!) and about three miles of fire road! This is my second year, but my friends have been doing this on the first weekend in Feb. for the last 34 years! High here today of 47 but I'll be riding the bike around doing last minute errands.

    Fold up trailer

How much are you asking for it, Steve? Inferior minds.......errrrrr... inquiring minds want to know!
  3. Not sure if it's true, but a friend of mine at the airlines just called and said that someone named Muffinman just bought a Quatntas ticket to Australia!

    The Mom Song

Yup! I heard my mom in there!
  5. That was soon after I bought the bike, Jack, and I don't know that the fluid had ever been changed. I was following a friend on an Aprillia Futura (a crotch rocket with pockets:rotf:). The temps were also above 100 degrees. He noticed his clutch going first. I think it was the water in line boiling, hence allowing less pressure to reach and operate the slave cylinder. Valvoline has a synthetic and on the bottle it says: "Syn Power. Full Synthetic, compatible with DOT 3 & 4, and all systems". I have used it in both bikes for over two years with no problems. As I said earlier, Squidley has a picture of the bottle that he posted once before and might again. If you do rebuild your slave cylinder, go ahead and order and change the oil seal where the clutch push rod goes through the block. It's about a $5 seal and a real PITA if you have to go back in! If you go to Flatout Motorcycles it (on the 86) is on the clutch schematic, part #24. I didn't change mine when I did the slave cylinder (didn't even think about it!) and it started to leak within 500 miles. I had to put up with that leak for the next 8 thousand miles on my trip. And that oil leak drops right on top of the exhaust collector! The smoke really stinks and is quite embarrassing!
  6. One issue that I had with my bike the first year was, after riding at 100+mph for an hour, the clutch fluid boiled and I had no clutch! I got to a gas station and got fluid out of the master cyl and refilled it. That worked for the rest of the trip. When I got it home I switched to Valvoline's Sythetic brake fluid and not had that problem again. (I think Squidley has a picture of the bottle he can post for us.) I have also switched all my brake fluid apps to that stuff. I love it!
  7. I wondered why it only got to 40 yesterday but is going to 60 degrees today!?!? I thought it was 'cause I had to work on my truck outside! And I can't ride to the ABATE swap meet today so that I can try to finish brakes, axle oil seals, kingpins and dropping one leaf out of the front springs on the tuck. Blackjack's got it right though, Jeff, the helping hand thing caused the temps to only dip, not freeze over!
  8. Jim, I have an 86 that I bought in 04 with 46k on the clock. In the summer of 06 I did a 6 thousand mile trip to Co. and the four corners area. And in the summer of 07 I did an 8 thousand mile trip to Mt/Wy. The bike turned over 100K on that trip! Like Squidley said, change out your fluid (including rear end unit), run some SeaFoam through the tank and enjoy your ride! If you make it through Atlanta give me a call and I'll meet you for coffee or something. If you come through here on the second Saturday of any month, we'll be having a breakfast meet & eat. Watch the threads for the location monthly.
  9. Guess I don't need to because mbrood already posted my bikes color....same as his! And, as has been posted elsewhere, it is the prettiest bike Yammi ever built. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/F/0/93p.gifhttp://imgfarm.com/images/smileycentral/imbuddy/hear_me_talk.gif
  10. Hey, BJBoomer, that -14 sounds worse in Celcius than Fahrenheit! That's 6.8F, but if you do it in Kelvin it's 259, plenty warm to ride! Oh yeah, http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_3_36.gif to the site! Kick your shoes off and sit a spell!
  11. Most excellent news there, Gary! I'm a firm believer that one can recuperate better and faster at home!
  12. I gotta believe the outcome at Virginia Tech would have been different had the students been allowed to carry wepons.

    This is SureFoot

Seems you sure are spending a lot of time an 2nd gens these days, Terry! Nice lookin bike, Kit! I just don't want ride behind you at night, looks like I would need to put on sunglasses when you hit the brakes!
  14. This is half true. They don't yet make a front tire for the 1st gen, they do make the rear tire. That's what I run and I love it. I run the Dunlop 404 on the front and I do ride aggressively at times. I get about 20k out of them.

    Need Help

    Hey Beer30! Where are you???
  16. So, you gonna stick the sidecar on the Vulcan or the Venture? I guess Clay didn't mind about the whole "tongue thing", huh Lauri?
  17. I was talking to a friend, that is a sheriff, about this and he said that this is a great idea, but it is nice to have a name of who they are calling. So it is a good idea to add a name after your ICE #. ie: ICE Betty 770 555 9999
  18. In Atlanta, Georgia, it is illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp.Man! I sure am glad that I tied my giraffe to my mailbox!!! Wffffew!!
  19. Beer30: Too bad the foam couldn't be replaced . For example , when I bought my first pair of custom fit ski boots . I placed a sock like material over my foot , placed my foot in the shell and they filled the void between foot and shell with injected foam . Set for a few minutes and pulled the foot out . Best darn fitting ski boots I have ever worn . Now if we could get helmets made like this for better fit ! BEER30 RedRider: You probably can, however, you would look really silly with a ski boot on your head. RR Now that's funny.................I don't care who you are!!!
  20. Hey Spear, that is just the Darwinian Theory in action! You'll notice, Kurt, that the thread hasn't been locked because it has stayed polite. That's one of the great things about this site.........and it's moderators!
  21. This is a great site. I checked a local area where they run radar on a basic city street and it was listed! I wish there was a way to load radar sites from this site into my GPS for planned routes!
  22. I was beginning to think I would be the only one around here to tell the truth! 90 lbs of fish, half a pair of boots and record sized log! Now where did you catch that cell phone? I need knew a new one!
  23. It's amazing to me that, with as blazingly hot the topic of gun control (or ownership) can be, this extremely extended "family" can discuss it through 80 some posts without anyone going ballistic! (Excuse the pun:rotf:) It makes me proud to call y'all friends.
  24. Hello Jack, my name is Todd, I too suffer from MBD and until there is a cure, I am here for you. Should you awaken in the night and find a burning need within to purchase another bike, you can call me and I will help you through it! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_33_10.gif Yeah Lewis, You Are Afflicted! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_1.gif (With MBD, too!)
  25. If you read, and accept, the Snopes article you find that, although this idea is basically false, one could limit gas purchases to companies that buy little or no OPEC oil. As far as the gas all coming from the same lines, it doesn't much matter if Mid Eastern oil/gas co-mingle in a line, if you buy from only those companies that use no Mid Eastern oil, then you aren't sending any money to terrorist supporting countries. And, I believe, that is the point of the idea. As for Citgo, they won't get any of my money because not only does hugo chavez hate America, and says so regularly, but they also use oil from iraq. The only time I would buy Citgo gas is if I were about to run out and there was nothing else around. I will not let that SOB make me walk! Although that did happen once. I was about out and decided to pass Citgo to the station across the street. Danged if the bike didn't die in the middle of the intersection, just past the stop sign! I wasn't on reserve, so I could have made it further, but it was just as easy to push it 10 yards. Actually, I did take some perverse pleasure pushing the Road Sofa away from the citgo!
